They will also be printed/sent to those whose preferences are set as so in their DigitalBeef accounts. WHR inventory assessments must be completed and paid in full prior to registering calves born in the current assessment period, (i.e. 2026 assessment on a dam must be completed and paid in order to register her calf born in 2026.) 2. Included with each assessment is the registration of a calf born to the dam in the year she was assessed (if calf is registered prior to one year of age) and a free transfer of said calf (if recorded within 60 days from the date of the sale.) (i.e. cost to register a calf born in 2026 to an assessed 2026 dam will be $0, if calf is registered within 12 months) *Calves born in previous year(s) to unassessed dams will incur additional fees.

Membership Deadline The Annual ASA Adult WHR Membership deadline is April 1. Any TOC breeder that does not renew their membership before April 1, 2026 must become a WHR breeder – if they choose to renew after the new April 1 deadline.

Breeders can now send and are encouraged to send DNA samples directly to Neogen for testing rather than sending to the ASA office. Starting July 1, 2023, a manual processing fee will be incurred for those samples sent to the ASA office for preprocessing. 3 things will be required to send samples in for testing: 1. A registration (or recorded “U”) number for each tested animal 2. A paper copy of the finalized testing form, (emailed from staff, description below) which includes the Neogen order number 3. A barcode number for each animal tested Breeders can queue up animals for testing in DigitalBeef and select which sample types they have, as well as which tests they want. Once the form is submitted, staff will process the testing request and get an order ID # from Neogen. A finalized printable PDF of the submission form will be emailed to you to print, sign and send to the lab with samples. Checks/ payments are still made to the ASA. Once staff approves the testing request, the breeder’s DigitalBeef account is billed accordingly.

Rising Value, Rising Expectations: Positioning Shorthorn for Today’s Market

here is no question that we are in a remarkable time within the cattle industry. Across the board—whether at the local stockyard selling by the pound or in the purebred sector selling by the head—we are seeing exceptional values for cattle. Open heifers, bred females, and bulls are all commanding prices that, in many cases, are at or near record levels. This sustained strength across all segments of the industry is something we should recognize, appreciate and most importantly, prepare for moving forward. What does this really mean for us as Shorthorn breeders? First and foremost, it means we are receiving more value for our product than ever before. That aligns with the broader economy, where the cost of nearly everything has increased. Inflation continues to impact input costs—from fertilizer and feed to fuel and labor—yet we are fortunate that strong consumer demand for beef continues to support higher cattle prices. In the commercial sector, we are seeing record prices paid for bulls, while at the same time producers are facing significantly higher expenses to maintain their operations. Because of this, the value of what we produce must not only remain high—it must continue to improve. The Shorthorn breed is well-positioned in today’s marketplace, but it is our responsibility as breeders to ensure that the cattle we produce justify and sustain that value. High-quality cattle, backed by reliable data and strong pedigrees, are driving today’s market, and that trend will only continue. As we look ahead, preparation becomes critical. Every aspect of our operations now carries a higher cost, and that reality is not likely to change. Therefore, we must continue to nurture and build the value of our product—registered Shorthorn cattle. Like any successful business or industry, long-term sustainability depends on continued growth in value. If our cattle are not worth more over time, it

becomes increasingly difficult to justify the investment required to produce them. Encouragingly, the number of Shorthorn cattle and new memberships within the American Shorthorn Association continues to remain strong. This growth is a positive indicator and plays an important role in maintaining and enhancing the value of the breed. However, with that growth also comes increased demand on the Association. Our staff continues to handle greater volumes of registrations, transfers, and DNA processing, all while maintaining a high level of service. The advancement of technology has significantly increased activity behind the scenes, and while that creates additional workload, it also creates tremendous opportunity. Technology, particularly in the area of genomics, is becoming a driving force in our industry. These advancements allow breeders to make more informed decisions, reducing risk and improving outcomes in their breeding programs. While these tools do come with added costs, they provide real value by helping avoid costly mistakes and by enhancing the predictability and performance of our cattle. In today’s marketplace, value is increasingly tied to documented pedigree and performance information. Buyers are not just purchasing cattle—they are investing in data, reliability, and confidence. This is where the Shorthorn breed continues to make significant strides. As part of my work preparing a presentation on the “State of Breed Associations” for the National Pedigreed Livestock Council, I have been visiting with leaders across multiple species—beef, dairy, swine, and equine. One consistent message stands out: the need to embrace and prepare for advancing technologies. This applies to every breed and every species, and Shorthorn is no exception. A strong example of this forwardthinking approach is the recent Bovine Congestive Heart Failure (BCHF) research project conducted in partnership

with Simplot. Through this effort, approximately 10,000 Shorthorn cattle were evaluated, leading to the development of a BCHF EPD for Shorthorn, which will be available in our registry on the DNA page. The lower the EPD (such as negative numbers), the lower the risk of being affected by BCHF. This is a significant advancement, particularly for commercial cattlemen, as BCHF can lead to substantial losses in feedlot settings. Early results indicate that Shorthorn cattle represent a low-risk population for this condition, further strengthening the breed’s value in the commercial sector. Projects like this do not come without cost, and we are fortunate to have support from the Shorthorn Foundation in helping make this research possible. As additional data becomes available, you will see more communication highlighting the genetic advantages of Shorthorn cattle in this area. Importantly, this is just the beginning. Continued advancements in DNA technology will bring new tools, including markers for disease resistance and more detailed performance traits, all of which will add further value to our breed. As with any investment, there is a cost associated with progress. Each of your operations faces rising expenses as you adopt new technologies and improve your programs. The same is true at the Association level. However, these investments are essential because they directly increase the value of the product we represent. The market today is proving a simple but important point: value follows quality, consistency, and documentation. As long as we remain committed to those principles, the future of the Shorthorn breed remains very bright. Now is the time to continue building on that momentum—ensuring that the cattle we produce not only meet today’s expectations but exceed tomorrow’s!

Keeping up with Shorthorn Events Life is busy and sometimes it is hard to keep track of everything happening around you. That where we come in! While we can’t keep track of your whole schedule, we can at least help with the Shorthorn events that are coming up. Be sure to check out the calendar located on the ASA website (shorthorn. org - then select “events” - then calendar) for up-and-coming Shorthorn events that will be happening this year. Whether it’s in your back yard or across state lines, you can keep up to date with the latest on the website. It’s one of our go-to spots to update for upcoming events and all things Shorthorn Shows (National, Super Regional and Regional Shows). With that being said, I ask that if any state association’s have upcoming events, to please contact us and we will get this updated on the website. While working on updating events and shows, it’s also time to freshen up the State Association Board of Directors listing on the website. This is a great tool used for new members joining the association to find ways to get involved and communicate with those breeders leading their state. If you are a new state association director or a past director with updated information, please email wade@shorthorn.org with that information and we will get that updated. We are in the process of reaching out to each state to make sure we’ve got the most accurate and up-to-date information possible listed for state Board of Directors. A roster of Officers for each state will be listed in the July issue of the Shorthorn Country magazine. At the end of the day, staying connected and informed helps us all be prepared. Carly Wheeler marketing & communications Carly Wheeler, of Templeton, California, is our Marketing and Communications Intern for the summer at the American Shorthorn Association. She is currently finishing up her junior year at Oklahoma State University, where she is majoring in Agricultural Communications and Marketing and is an active member of the Professional Selling Program. Carly is excited to spend her summer with Team Shorthorn while gaining valuable, hands-on industry experience and further developing her skills in communications and marketing within the livestock sector. Having shown livestock for as long as she can remember, Carly grew up actively involved in exhibiting cattle, sheep, and

Cora Capatske show & events

Cora Capatske comes to us from Ellsworth, Wisconsin, where she developed a passion for the livestock industry at a young age. She grew up competitively exhibiting steers at all levels and, alongside her family, operates a successful club calf operation that markets cattle to junior exhibitors nationwide. In addition to showing, Cora was highly active in 4-H and FFA livestock judging programs. Her judging career took her to some of the country’s most prestigious contests, including the American Royal, National Western Stock Show, and the NAILE National 4-H Contest.

Jewel Thompson contest & education

Jewel Thompson is from Opelika, Alabama. She is a Senior at Auburn University, majoring in Ag Education and Ag Communications. She is active on campus through a variety of agricultural clubs including Block and Bridle where she serves as treasurer, Collegiate Cattlemen, Young Farmers, and Future Ag Sciences Teachers. Prior to Auburn Jewel attended Clarendon College and was a member of the Livestock Judging team. She is no stranger to the Shorthorn breed, attending 10 National Junior Shorthorn Shows and seving as Alabama Lassie Queen for 3 years. Other leadership positions include Alabama

goats, experiences that helped shape her strong work ethic and passion for agriculture. Her background in the show ring, combined with her academic training, has given her a unique perspective on the importance of effective communication in the industry. Carly has a particular passion for storytelling in agriculture and enjoys sharing the stories of producers, families, and organizations that make the industry so impactful. Through her internship, she looks forward to creating meaningful content, building connections, and promoting the values and opportunities within the Shorthorn breed and the broader agricultural community.

Driven by her passion for evaluation and education, Cora continued her judging career at Redlands Community College in El Reno, Oklahoma, where she competed on the livestock judging team. She graduated in May 2025 with an Associate’s degree in Animal Science before transferring to Iowa State University to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Communication. Throughout her college career, Cora has gained valuable industry experience through multiple internships with breed associations and national livestock shows. She is excited to bring her background and enthusiasm for show management to Team Shorthorn.

Junior Cattlemen’s director and at-large director of the American Junior Brahman Association. In December of 2025, she had the opportunity to be an intern at the Mississippi Youth Livestock Expo, where she grew her knowledge of stock shows and managing youth livestock events. She is currently the Chaplin of the Alabama Cattlewomen’s Association, a position that allows her to combine her faith and her dedication to the Beef Industry. Jewel is passionate about the Shorthorn breed and is looking forward to being the Contest and Education intern in Abilene!

Award Recognition Overall Regional Champions in each region will receive a physical award at the 2026 ASA Annual Meeting Awards Banquet on Saturday, October 24th, in Kansas City, Mo. Division Champions and Runner-up animals are recognized in Shorthorn Country and on Shorthorn.org; however, they will not receive additional awards.

Regional Qualifications To qualify for Regional Points, an animal must be exhibited at a minimum of two (2) shows within the region. Any combination of the following shows will meet the regional qualifications: • Regional Show • Super Regional Show • National Show within the designated region Only shows attended within a given region count toward that region’s point total. A National Show within a region will count toward regional points, but Regional Shows do not count toward National Points. Points earned at individual shows can be viewed by ASA members through the “Show Points” page within DigitalBeef. This page is updated throughout the show season as results are processed by ASA staff. To be named Regional Show Bull or Regional Show Female of the Year, an animal must also win its respective division within that region. In the event a regional show does not utilize the provided ASA Division Classifications, the following policy will be used: Points earned at a regional show where ASA division breaks are not utilized will be reassigned to the proper division for which the animal qualifies.

Building Momentum: Carrying the Breed Forward one another, each contribution helps shape the direction of the association. Growth happens through those everyday moments of involvement. Mentorship remains one of the most important parts of that process. When older or more experienced exhibitors take the time to guide younger members, it creates an environment where learning feels natural and supported. That willingness to invest in others is what helps carry the association forward year after year. As the industry continues to evolve, juniors play a key role in shaping what comes next. New ideas, fresh perspectives, and a willingness to stay involved all contribute to steady progress while keeping the values of the breed intact. Looking ahead, there is a rolling momentum that is built upon the efforts of juniors across the country. The Shorthorn breed has long been shaped by a balance of tradition and progress. As juniors, we have an opportunity to be part of this legacy while helping move it forward in small but meaningful ways. Somebody once told me the secret to getting better at something isn’t just sporadic and immense improvement in a short time; the secret lies in steady improvement over long, consistent periods of time. “If you get one percent better every day, you’ll be 38 times better at it after a year.” This past year has reflected the strength of the association steadily and encouragingly. From national shows to leadership conferences, junior involvement has remained strong, and the sense of community continues to stand out. The ring is competitive, but just as important are the relationships and experiences that come with it. Progress within the AJSA comes from the consistency and effort of its junior members. Whether it’s preparing for the next show, stepping into a leadership role, or simply supporting

JUNIOR BOARD CANDIDATES

Toby Behrends is currently attending Black Hawk College East Campus, where she is pursuing an Associate of Science degree. After completing her associate degree, she plans to transfer to Oklahoma State University to study Animal Science and pursue a master’s degree in Beef Reproduction. Toby is a fourth-generation beef producer and a first-generation Shorthorn breeder who established her own Shorthorn herd in 2017. She has found success producing and showing competitive Shorthorn cattle at the state and national levels, including at Junior Nationals, the North American International Livestock Expo, and Cattlemen’s Congress. Toby is currently serving as president of both the Illinois Junior Beef Association and the Illinois Junior Shorthorn Association. She has also served as Illinois Junior Shorthorn Association treasurer and show chair. In addition to her Shorthorn involvement, she has held leadership roles in FFA and 4-H, including serving as president of her FFA chapter and her local 4-H club. Toby is passionate about mentoring younger exhibitors and helping them build confidence in fitting, showmanship, and livestock care. Her accomplishments include being named the 2025 Illinois State Fair Shorthorn Plus Breeder of the Year, Reserve Champion Shorthorn Heifer exhibitor, and 3rd Overall Beef Showman. She has also received the Illinois FFA State Degree, American FFA Degree, and numerous scholarships through cattlemen’s organizations and Farm Bureau groups. Toby is the daughter of David and Marinda Behrends of Sheffield, Illinois. “I have been honored to be a member of the Shorthorn family, and I want to 36

ensure that everyone feels welcomed and valued,” Toby said. “With these experiences, along with my strong work ethic and passion for Shorthorn cattle, I am confident that I will be an asset to the AJSA.”

“Being able to give that experience to the younger generation is something I have always strived to achieve,” Kaitlyn said. “I want to be a positive representative of the breed that has brought me so much of my life.”

Kaitlyn Berg will be graduating from St. Ansgar High School this year and plans to attend Iowa State University to major in Pre-Law and Agribusiness. Kaitlyn has been involved with the Shorthorn breed since attending her first National Junior Shorthorn Show in 2016 in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Since then, she has attended every Junior National and has built a passion for the breed, the people, and the opportunities it provides. She believes the Shorthorn breed has shaped her into the person she is today and has given her lifelong friendships and experiences. Kaitlyn is currently serving on the Iowa Junior Shorthorn Association board as social media manager and has been involved in the association since 2016. She is active in FFA, 4-H, Student Council, varsity golf, and serves as a Big Brother/Big Sister mentor. Kaitlyn also owns her own business, KB Media, and works for Weis Cattle Company while helping on her family’s operation, Berg Shorthorns. She is passionate about leadership, mentoring younger members, and creating a welcoming environment for all youth involved in the breed. Her accomplishments include being named the 2025 Grand Champion Bred and Owned Female at the National Junior Shorthorn Show, Champion Female at the 2024 American Royal Junior Shorthorn Show, first place photography winner at the NJSS, and fourth overall individual in livestock judging. Kaitlyn is the daughter of Josh and Ashley Berg of Osage, Iowa.

Caleb Davis will be graduating from Bunn High School this year while also completing work toward his Associate of Science degree through Vance-Granville Community College. After graduation, he plans to attend Iowa State University to major in Animal Science with the goal of becoming a reproductive specialist. Caleb has been involved in the livestock industry since he was young and has found a passion for the Shorthorn breed through the American Junior Shorthorn Association. Coming from a state without a state association, Caleb quickly found a home within the Shorthorn family and has since worked to help others feel welcomed and included in the breed. Caleb is the founder and state advisor of the newly re-established North Carolina Junior Shorthorn Association. He has also served as vice president, secretary, and chaplain of his FFA chapter, president of his 4-H club, and has been actively involved in mentoring younger exhibitors through programs like Leap into the Sheep. Caleb shows multiple species of livestock, including cattle, sheep, goats, and swine, and has developed strong leadership, communication, and teamwork skills through his involvement in agriculture. His accomplishments include being named the 2025 North Carolina State Fair Round Robin Reserve Supreme Champion Showman, Champion Got To Be NC AOB Market Lamb

exhibitor, and a regional finalist in both prepared and extemporaneous public speaking. Caleb and his family have also found success in the Shorthorn breed, including exhibiting the 3rd Overall Division 1 Shorthorn Plus Female at the 2024 Junior Nationals and the Reserve Champion Division 8 Shorthorn Plus Female at the 2025 Junior Nationals. Caleb is the son of Brian and Pamela Davis of Zebulon, North Carolina. “I want to help younger members feel welcomed, help new families get started, and continue promoting the Shorthorn breed and the great people behind it,” Caleb said. “This association has helped me find my passion and shape the person I am today.”

Chloe Jordan graduated from Rensselaer Central High School in 2025 with both an Academic Honors Diploma and a Technical Honors Diploma. She is currently attending Oklahoma State University where she is pursuing a degree in Agricultural Education. Chloe plans to use her degree to support agricultural literacy, communication, and mentorship for future generations in agriculture. Chloe has been involved in the Shorthorn breed since attending her first Junior National in 2016 and has not missed one since. Growing up on her family’s Shorthorn operation, she has developed a passion for the breed and the people within it. Chloe is actively involved in Sigma Alpha, where she serves on the public relations committee, and she is also involved in Collegiate FFA. During high school, she served as FFA Reporter, Housekeeping Committee Chair, and Homecoming Committee Chair. Chloe has also been a 10-year 4-H member, Jasper County Junior Leaders vice president and secretary, an FFA SOAR Camp Counselor, and a 4-H Camp Counselor. She is passionate about helping younger members feel welcomed and supported and enjoys mentoring youth through agriculture and livestock activities. Her accomplishments include being named the 2025 Miss Jasper County Fair Queen, 2023 Indiana State Fair Champion Charolais Heifer exhibitor, and Reserve Champion Senior Charolais Showman. She also earned 3rd Place

Senior Prepared Speech at the 2025 National Junior Shorthorn Show and was selected to attend the FFA Washington Leadership Conference. Chloe is the daughter of Toby and Jodi Jordan of Rensselaer, Indiana. “I want members to leave the AJSA with more than just results in the show ring, but with confidence, leadership skills, and a stronger understanding of the industry,” Chloe said. “I want to help every member feel welcomed, supported, and confident in their place within the organization.”

Lilly Whiting will be graduating from Wilmington Area High School this year with a 4.0 GPA and plans to attend Ohio State University to major in Agricultural Communications and Economics. After completing her undergraduate degree, Lilly hopes to attend law school and pursue a career in law and public service. Growing up on her family’s Shorthorn and Shorthorn Plus operation in western Pennsylvania, Lilly has developed a passion for the breed, the cattle industry, and the people involved. She has been involved in the AJSA for 10 years and values the connections, leadership, and family atmosphere that the Shorthorn breed provides. Lilly is currently serving as president of the Wilmington Area FFA Chapter and president of the Lawrence County Baby Beef 4-H Club. She has also served as vice president of FFA, president of the Lawrence County Porky Pig 4-H Club and has been active in peer leadership programs at her local elementary school, helping younger students build confidence and social skills. Lilly is passionate about mentoring younger members and helping them step outside of their comfort zones, especially through opportunities like the IGS Youth Summit Leadership Conference. Her accomplishments include serving on the Pennsylvania State Winning Meats Evaluation and Technology Team, the Pennsylvania State Winning Demonstration Team, and being named a Pennsylvania FFA Creed finalist. She has also received the Rotary Youth Leadership Award, Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizens Award, Outstanding 4-H Member of the Year, and Star Greenhand Award. Lilly is

the daughter of Sam and Abby Whiting of New Wilmington, Pennsylvania. “I want to be the smiling face and helping hand to greet members at their first or last show,” Lilly said. “I want to support younger members of the association and give them the same opportunities that were given to me.”

3 OPEN POSITIONS Eligible seats are elected each summer during the Youth Conference at the National Junior Shorthorn Show by their peers to lead the organization and carry out activities, programs, and events for the association. With the mission to positively impact the leaders of tomorrow and today by committing themselves to the Shorthorn breed, its members, and each other, makes this a tremendous opportunity for learning about teamwork, responsibility and leadership. Retiring board members will pass off their red jacket during the awards ceremony Friday, June 26.

Online entries will include entry fee (per show) and stalling/ bedding fee for each animal in the barns and tieouts, exhibitor fee, and additional options. Entries must be paid online at time of entry or they will not be processed. There will be NO refunds on entries. See General Rule 6 Entry fee is $45 per show entry if completed by deadline of May 1. If you are showing an animal in more than one show it must be entered for each show. There is a $60 stalling/bedding fee per head. This includes stalling and tieout bedding.

Exhibitors must pay the $30 exhibitor fee during online entry. Exhibitor fee includes: show shirt and contest fee. Meal tickets are no longer part of the exhibitor fee and must be purchased seperately. No show entries after final deadline of May 15, 2026. No entry substitutions allowed after May 15, 2026. All animals must be registered in the sole name of the junior member who will be showing. Ownership deadline is May 15, 2026. (No farm or family names allowed)

Important Reminders •

Cattle will be allowed on the fairgrounds on Saturday, June 20, in tie outs ONLY after 5:00 p.m. Cattle will be allowed in barns after 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 21. All cattle must tie out in designated area. You can not tie outside during the day after check-in is completed. All cattle must stay on grounds and in the barns during the day. Must bring registration papers and health papers to the show for check-in. We will not verify tattoos at check-in but animals tattoo must match the corresponding registration papers. Entries not matching will be disqualified from show. See general rule #9. ONLY steers will be weighed at check-in. Scales will not be available before check-in. Individual contests including showmanship, speech and career development contests MUST be entered during online entry. Showmanship and livestock judging entries will not be accepted at junior national. All other individual contests must be entered by going through contest registration, Monday, June 22, starting at 8:00 a.m. You will also pick-up your show shirts. Group contests will be entered by state advisors. They will be provided the group sign-up form to return to the junior director and interns.

Exhibitors who have purchased meal tickets will receive their tickets in their check-in packet. Electricity – People should come prepared with generators and extension cords. All generators must be housed outside. No generators or gas cans will be allowed inside the barn and must meet local fire codes for inspection by fire marshall. Exhibitors are reminded that portacools and butt fans are not allowed in the barns. Pets are allowed on the fairgrounds, but NOT in the arena/show ring area for any reason or at any time. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited. In accordance with grounds policy and this youth event, consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited. If the junior member is unable to show their animal due illness or health, follow the procedure in the show rules. See General Rules #4,#5, #13. Animals will NOT be allowed to enter the show ring after the judge has given the signal to walk. See general show rule #18. ALL digital contest entries must be submitted by May 15 via the online contest form. There have been some contest rule changes. Be sure to carefully read rules to know all the updates!

Contest Age Divisions (as of Jan. 1, 2026) Prospector I: 5 to 9 years :: Prospector II: 10 to 12 years :: Intermediate: 13 to 16 years :: Senior: 17 to 21 years If any individual participates in a “team” contest with someone of a different age division, the team must participate in the oldest contestant’s age division unless the contest rules don’t allow competing in a different age division. For showmanship, the Prospector I age division matches show rules (must be 7).

LIVESTOCK JUDGING CONTEST

To participate in the Livestock Judging contest you must enter during online entry. No additional entries for livestock judging will be accepted at the NJSS.

PROMO VIDEO CONTEST

Video entries can be made by any age division and judged separately. Entries must be a video in portrait/vertical mode. They must be a maximum of 60 seconds. Due on May 15 via online contest entry form.

PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST

ALL Entries must be emailed by May 15 to online contest entry form. Entries will not be accepted at NJSS.

SPEECH CONTEST

ALL speech participants must submit a video giving their speech by May 15 via online contest entry form. Judges will evaluate the submitted videos for the age divisions with more than 15 participants. The judges will select a top 15 that will compete at junior national for placing. The top 15 will be notified if they have made it to the placing round. The elimination round and placing round will each have a different set of judges. Senior Topic: How is the livestock market impacted by international crisis? Intermediate Topic: How does renewable energy (wind, hydro, solar, etc.) positively or negatively impact the cattle industry? PII Topic:How is showing cattle just like playing a sport? PI Topic: How are Shorthorns ‘trailblazers’?

E.D.G.E. ESSAY CONTEST

Senior participants only. Due May 15 via online contest form. Essay must be original work, no duplication from previous years or AI generated content. Essay must be properly cited with MLA-style sources, 12 pt font, Times New Roman, double-spaced and submitted as a PDF. Topic: Why is using performance data important and how can you improve your herd with selection tools?

SHOWMANSHIP CONTEST

Showmanship participants are required to enter online during cattle entry to be eligible to participate. We will not accept entries at junior national. The showmanship heats will have exhibitors randomized in their age divisions. Exhibitors must use the same animal for the entire contest. Seniors will no longer fit during finals.

News & Notes Farewells Martha Jane Martin, age 85, of Hardyville, Ky, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at Baptist Health Hardin Hospital in Elizabethtown. Martha Jane and C.F. were avid supporters of 4-H and supporting agriculture for our youth. Her wall hangings were always the high selling item of the 4-H auctions. Martha Jane had a special talent for quilting, she was

the very best. One year she entered four quilts at the Kentucky State Fair, she brought home four blue ribbons. She retired from the FSA office in 2002. She loved her family, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and greatgrandmother. Some of her favorite times were mowing the yard and eating a honeybun. She is preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Blanche Burd; brother, Bobby Ray Burd; sister, Jenny Lee Druen; one infant brother. She is survived by her husband of 64 years; C.F. Martin; her two sons, Franklin Martin (Carol) and Jason

Martin (Brooke); two grandchildren, Kacie Martin and Kayla Martin; two step-grandchildren, Tristan Murphy and Austin Martin; two great-grandchildren, Drew and Emmory Jane Williams; two step-great-grandchildren, SJ Chastine and Stelee Murphy; two sisters, Linda Cecil and Libby Mitchum. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dementia Society of America. Donations may be left at the funeral home, or made on the Dementia Society of America Website.

Iowa Shorthorn Association Honorary Breeder Moffitt Stock Farm Moffitt Stock Farm is a seventh generation Shorthorn operation in south central Iowa that raises Shorthorn and Shorthorn influenced cattle alongside row crops and custom farming services. The Moffitt family began raising Shorthorn cattle near Ackworth, Iowa, in 1879 and has continued in Warren County for seven generations. During the 1950s they organized under the name Moffitt Stock Farm, a name that replaced earlier names such as Iola Stock Farm and A.J. Moffitt and Son and is still in use today. Today, Kennady, Kamden, Benjamin, Bryce, and Katelyn represent the seventh generation of Moffitts raising Shorthorns in Warren County and actively exhibiting cattle at events. With annual highlights including the Iowa Junior Shorthorn Field Day and Shorthorn 50

Junior Nationals. Moffitt Stock Farm manages a herd of purebred Shorthorn and commercial cows. Heifers not retained as replacements are finished and sold on value based grid, GeneNet, which helps producers capture carcass premiums and detailed carcass data. The farm also partners with Z’s Eatery & Draught Haus in Indianola, which features locally and responsibly sourced Warren County beef on its menu. In addition to cattle, the operation raises corn, soybeans, and hay. The Moffit family provides custom farming and spraying services. The business also includes excavating and field tiling work, reflecting the
