THE POSITION VISION & VALUES

The Director of Identity is an exemplary classroom practitioner and a member of the College Executive and is directly responsible to the Principal for promoting and giving life to the identity of the College as a Catholic School in the Edmund Rice tradition.

In so doing, the Director of Identity demonstrates support for Catholic philosophy and values and promotes sound educational practices especially as they relate to the education of boys. The Director of Identity has a special role in assisting the Principal in the promotion of the Charism of Blessed Edmund Rice as expressed within the Charter and Touchstones of EREA. The Director of Identity is also an outstanding teacher in his/her subject areas in terms of knowledge of content, teaching methodology, classroom management, methods of evaluation and professional development.

The Director Identity has the following specific responsibilities and tasks.

Supports leadership of the College Ethos and values by:

• Demonstrating support for the philosophy and values of the College

• Fostering the charism of Edmund Rice

• Demonstrating active leadership and promotion of the EREA Charter and its Touchstones

• Modelling high professional standards which accords with the EREA Code of Conduct

• Actively promoting leadership and the implementation of the Code for Learning

• Contributing actively to the leadership of the Learning Agenda

• Contributing actively to College life and extracurricular programs

• Supporting, promoting and engaging in the social justice initiatives of the College

• Supporting College policies and programs

• Demonstrating loyalty to professional colleagues

• Engaging in the development, monitoring and implementation of the EREA Cultural Audit process

• Participating in the EREA Formation programs

STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP

Supports the strategic leadership of the College by:

Contributing significantly to the design, implementation, leadership and monitoring of the College Strategic Plan. The Director of Identity will be central to the design, implementation and leadership of the College Annual Strategic Goals.

PROFESSIONAL

LEARNING

Demonstrating outstanding modelling in relation to their own Professional Learning as outlined in their own Professional Learning Plan and through participation in the Professional Learning Partnership framework.

It is expected that the Director of Identity will participate in a significant Professional Learning or Leadership Experience within the terms of their contract. It is assumed this experience will be linked with the role and shared with colleagues. In addition, they are expected to attend EREA Identity Conferences.

The Director of Identity will lead and participate in the Professional Review of Leaders of Learning.

The Director of Identity will experience a Professional Review in the third year of their current contract. Each year, they will participate in an Annual Professional Discussion with the Principal.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

Leads the College’s Religious and Identity formation programs by:

• Organising, maintaining and facilitating formation programs for members of the College community, nurturing of personal and communal staff and parent spirituality.

• Working closely with the EREA National Identity Directorate in the development of the EREA Formation Framework.

• Supporting the Principal and appropriate members of the College community to review the vision and mission statements of the College within the context of the College’s strategic directions based on the Charter Touchstones.

• Working with the Principal and the College community to integrate the Touchstones of the Charter for Catholic Schools in the Edmund Rice Tradition in the life of the College.

• Working with the Principal and other appropriate members of the College community to develop a College culture which reflects and enriches the community’s identity as a Catholic School in the Edmund Rice Tradition.

• Providing rich spiritual experiences through Masses, Liturgies and Retreats that allow students to foster their own faith and spirituality.

• Collaborating with the Principal and Deputy Principal in the organisation and preparation of the annual Staff Spirituality Day.

Leads the College’s Identity Team by:

• Is the leader of the Identity team comprising the Principal, Leader of Learning - Religious Education, Leader of Learning - Justice Peace and Advocacy, and other key members of staff.

• Working with the Leader of Learning – Religious Education in the provision of quality teaching and learning, and the delivery of the Diocesan and Board of Studies Religious Education Syllabus.

• Developing collaborative and life-giving relationships with school, Parish and Diocesan communities.

• Giving personal witness to Catholic values in carrying out the day to day duties of the Director of Identity by clearly articulating the purpose of the religious dimension of a Catholic School.

• Employing a team approach to the creation, celebration and organisation of rituals, liturgies and special events that reflect and enrich the community’s commitment to the Charter Touchstones.

• Liaising with the College Community and Diocesan Clergy, including the Bishop.

Social Justice:

• Promoting education for justice and peace, in partnership with the Leader of Learning - Justice, Peace and Advocacy; Leader of Learning – Religious Education and the entire College community.

PERSONAL QUALITIES, SOCIAL AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS

Liaison with College Community Members by

• Demonstrating a high level of emotional intelligence, empathy and resilience.

• Demonstrating ethical practices and exceptional social skills to deal with conflict effectively.

• Attending Executive Meetings.

• Liaising with the Identity Team on matters relating to identity.

• Chairing meetings of the Identity Team.

• Working with the Deputy Principal to assist in the development of the Annual School Report as appropriate.

• Working closely with other Executive members in the organisation and supervision of students at all major College events.

Parish Community

• Liaising with the College Community and the Christian Brothers Religious Community and promote the Charism of Blessed Edmund Rice.

Ultimately the Director of Identity is responsible to the Principal, who may vary the above duties from time to time and may ask the Director to take on other duties or become involved in crosscurriculum issues.

ABOUT ST EDWARD’S COLLEGE

The College was founded by the Christian Brothers and has been educating boys on the Central Coast since 1953, and is governed by EREA NSW Colleges Limited. The College provides a wonderfully rich education which is authentic to the values which underpin the touchstones for schools conducted in the traditions of Blessed Edmund Rice the founder of Christian Brothers schools worldwide. These touchstones being: Liberating Education, Gospel Spirituality, Inclusive Community and Justice and Solidarity.
