At St Edmund’s, we recognise that Years 7 and 8 mark a pivotal stage in a young person ’ s journey a moment when childhood curiosity meets emerging independence.

From September 2026, we will be opening Foundation House in our Senior School - a new vision for educating children at this critical moment in their development

Pupils in Year 7 & 8 will have their own base in our state-of-the-art Academic Hub, their own age-specific social areas, a pastoral team made up of Key Stage Three specialists and unique PSHEE, Citizenship and Careers programmes

They will also benefit from inter-House competitions and leadership and teambuilding expeditions to foster mutual and selfrespect

Foundation House provides a secure, inclusive and rewarding environment for starting secondary school study

Lessons in Years 7 and 8 at St Edmund’s are carefully designed to engage, challenge and inspire Alongside a strong academic core of English, Mathematics and Science, pupils are introduced to a broad and enriching curriculum that includes modern languages, coding and digital skills, design and technology, music, art and drama

An extensive fixtures schedule provides regular opportunities for pupils to represent the school, apply their skills in competitive settings and grow in confidence through challenge. These experiences help pupils develop resilience, sportsmanship and a positive attitude to both success and setback

Whether discovering a new sport or competing at a higher level, pupils are supported to progress and achieve their personal best. With opportunities across football, hockey, netball, tennis, cricket, basketball, badminton, swimming and fitness, sport at St Edmund’s inspires enjoyment, ambition and lifelong participation

Life beyond the classroom at St Edmund’s is enriched by a wideranging co-curricular programme that encourages pupils to explore new interests and develop their talents With 49 activities on offer, including more than 20 sports, every child is supported in finding something that inspires and challenges them

From sport and outdoor education to music, drama, debating and coding, these opportunities help pupils build confidence, teamwork and resilience, while discovering what they enjoy most. Cocurricular life is a valued part of the St Edmund’s experience, supporting the development of well-rounded, enthusiastic learners.
