Since 1871, St Cyprian’s Diocesan School for Girls has lived its ethos of ‘teaching not for school, but for life; training not for time, but for eternity.’ We are a proud, independent school committed to transformative change, embracing and advancing diversity. We have a strong anchor that connects our Anglican tradition, values and heritage. It is from this framework that we grow and hone purpose, intellect, character and agency in our students. As a school of global significance, attuned to the needs of change, we play a pivotal role in guiding our girls on the ‘Journey of Becoming’ – such that they will influence the future as women of strength and stature. We are that school. The school that unlocks potential and intentionally grows individual brilliance, unique to each student.
We aspire to enhance our position as a leading centre of educational excellence while augmenting a definition of excellence to embrace a wider audience for transformative effect. This intent requires facilities, structures and circumstances to enable individual growth and facilitate change. Hence, our approach is two-pronged: Provision of facilities to enable experiential learning and discovery of self; and creation of a diverse school community to enable first-hand commonality and diversity in the human condition, and the development of talent from such an enriched base. In anticipation of the realisation of SCS150 (Council’s strategic vision established in 2016) a Development Framework Plan was created in advance of a comprehensive Site Development Plan by a professional team who understood the school’s long-term vision.
St Cyprian’s School Legacy Plan Two critical, strategic imperatives aligned in purpose to materially impact the school’s future and sustainability.
1 THE SCS 150 BUILT ENVIRONMENT CAMPAIGN
2 THE TRANSFORMATION AND DIVERSITY PATHWAY
ASTROTURF Full competition-sized Astroturf to advance and expand our reputation for excellence, growing desirability as a school of choice while, at the same time, facilitating a partnership with a school with limited facilities. This base facility will be shared with Good Hope Seminary School. An Astroturf in close proximity to our school, provides a home for hockey and our academy, greatly reduces travel time and cost, and benefits hockey growth through our partnership.
AQUATIC CENTRE Designed to meet competition specifications for swimming and water polo, the pool is sized at 25x20x2m. This indoor, rim-flow pool, heated to FINA standards, provides year round access for teaching fundamental movement to younger swimmers and competition training for the older girls. This will significantly grow and enhance the two sporting codes at the school and beyond. Academies are being established to support their growth.
MULTI-PURPOSE HALL The Muli-Purpose Hall is designed to accommodate significant curriculum-related school activities required by a school of the scope and size of St Cyprian’s School. This hall will also allow for the development of multiple indoor sports codes and provide all-weather functionality for physical education and outdoor sport codes during the winter season.
TENNIS AND NETBALL COURTS A further opportunity for shared facilities with a sister school in a congested urban landscape, this refurbishment project includes the upgrade of four additional courts on the premises of Good Hope Seminary School and the development of two new on-site tennis and netball courts to replace those lost to the building of the pool and multi-purpose hall on SCS Campus. The Tennis and Netball Acadmies have grown a love for the two disciplines and increased the number of participants. A 2018 PGSGU tennis win propelled the stature of the sport while netball has performed strongly in the WP first league.
The SCS Transformation for Diversity Pathway St Cyprian’s School intentionally cultivates a sense of belonging for all members of our community. As a school, in the spirit of equity and redress, we are committed to providing an outstanding education to talented, previously marginalised students through the following initiatives:
BURSARY ENDOWMENT CAMPAIGN Established to attract and retain talent and potential in diversity as well as target historically disadvantaged students, the bursary endowment has grown from R 1 million in 2010 to R 5,7 million in 2019. Our ambition is to triple this component of the St Cyprian’s offer in the next two years to help us meet our Transformation and Diversity objectives.
TEACHER INTERN PROGRAMME Our Teacher Intern Programme has been devised to train talented and passionate people to become excellent teachers and role models for all our students.
FUNDING PARTNERSHIP The facilities provided by the SCS150 Built Environment Campaign will be shared with a sister state school, Good Hope Seminary School for Girls. This will create fellowship and community to advance the sharing of best practice, skills, resources and facilities, as well as offer our girls the transformative opportunity of broader human connection and social integration through sport.
TRANSFORMATIVE EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES To ensure that all students, regardless of socio-economic status can capitalise on opportunities offered by the school, a discretionary fund is in place to finance talented individuals. Such opportunities will encompass academic, cultural, sport, technology and Round Square experiences. St Cyprian’s School intentionally cultivates a sense of belonging for all members of our community. As a school, in the spirit of equity and redress, we commit to providing an outstanding education to talented, previously marginalised students.

Giving back to St Cyprian’s School Support through financial donation to St Cyprian’s School contributes to the school’s future success and richness of thought, courage and diversity. We need support to affirm SCS as a foremost provider of excellent independent education for girls. Generosity will contribute to making St Cyprian’s School more than simply a good school but rather, a place of significance, driven by a vision to do good and effect meaningful changes. Giving to St Cyprian’s School will enable the growth of influence across our community. It presents an auditable opportunity to improve the prospects of many through our school partnerships and our commitment to diversity (with its offer of opportunity through funding).
