Next week (8-12 June 2026) is National Freelancer Week. During the week, ERIC will run a live session (you can also watch on demand) each day to help you learn how to start, grow and succeed as a freelancer through short talks, videos and real advice from people working in the creative industries All online, all on demand 16 different freelancers will star in videos during the week to ensure you’re hearing a range of voices and opinions. The topics that will unlock each day are are:

Lots of creatives work on a freelance basis. But what does it actually mean? And what jobs could you do? Here are some resources to help you explore...

Prospects - what can I do with my degree?

This resource was originally designed for students leaving university, having just completed a degree within a specific subject area. It can be used by students of any age to consider where studying a particular subject could take you. You can click into each job role to learn more about the responsibilites, demand and pay.

Day of Wrk

Day of Wrk was created to show what people actually do for their jobs through authentic day-in-the-life stories, all housed in one place which will hopefully give young people a more detailed understanding of what a job actually entails, and have the confidence to apply.

What is freelancing

Freelance jobs sound ideal, as you get to work for yourself (usually from home) and they're available in a variety of fields That said, it takes business acumen and plenty of hard work to make a career from freelancing. This blog post can help you understand what freelancing is, what roles typically have a lot of freelance opportunities and where to find more information on roles available.

Art conservators are highly specialised professionals who blend scientific analysis, art history, and hands-on craftsmanship to preserve, protect, and restore cultural heritage. They tackle both remedial conservation (physical repair and cleaning) and preventive conservation (environmental monitoring) to ensure artworks survive for future generations Experts estimate 65% of kids starting primary school today will end up working in a specific job that doesn’t exist yet

Technical, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving skills will be in demand in the future.

IBM Skills Build has over 1,000 courses in 20 different languages. Their education progarmmes focus on AI, Cyber Security and Data Analysis Explore new technologies, build skills that are foundational for the workplace, and earn digital credentials to show what you’ve learned all for free

It includes articles to help you decide whether university is right for you, what you should study, and where you should study it Topics include researching options, attending events, financing studies, applying, and preparing for university life

Key Information:

India has one of the largest higher education systems in the world, with over 43 million students enrolled across more than 1,200 universities India is actively reforming its higher education system, with government initiatives aiming to improve quality and curb unrecognised institutions. Students should always check a university's accreditation before applying. According to the QS World University Rankings 2026, India has 54 universities ranked, making it the 4th most represented country globally. The Indian academic year typically follows a two-semester system, one from July to December and the second from January to April or May. Bachelors programmes in India are similar to those in the UK, focusing on both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Many universities now use a credit-based system, giving you more flexibility in choosing courses and managing your workload.
