Do you enjoy poetry, performing, or bringing words to life? Why not take part in Poetry By Heart 2027, a national poetry recitation competition!

What is it? The competition is all about learning Classic poems by heart and performing them in your own way.
In the Classic category: Choose two poems from anywhere on the Poetry By Heart website. A Level students may have the option to choose one poem from one of their set texts. One poem must have been published before 1914.
The other poem must have been published in or after 1914.
Why take part? Develop your confidence and public speaking skills. Explore some of the most exciting poetry ever written. Challenge yourself to memorise and perform poems.
Work with Sue to develop your performance piece before entering the competition.
Both poems must be performed solo by one student. Learn new skills in performance, literature and oracy.
Classic celebrates outstanding achievement in speaking poems. It is all about your voice and the poem. Judges will look for performances in which the student has fully embodied the poem and has become its voice. They will consider the quality and the voice, understanding, performance and accuracy.
