Radiographers apply knowledge of human anatomy and patient care skills to take X-ray images of the human body that physicians use to diagnose broken bones, disease and injury.
What can I do with a Radiography degree? A St. Kate’s Radiography associate degree prepares you for a career in hospitals, clinics and outpatient centers. You’ll be qualified to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam. Upon passing the exam, you’ll also have the opportunity to specialize in computerized tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, vascular procedures and more. Demand for radiologic technologists is growing, according to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). In 2024, according to the BLS, the median annual earnings of radiologic technologists in Minnesota was $80,960.

How to apply Your first step is to apply for admission as a Pre-Radiography student to take prerequisite and other liberal arts and sciences courses required for your degree. Pre-Radiography students may be admitted in the fall, spring or summer terms based on space availability. Note: Enrollment as a Pre-Radiography student does not guarantee progression into the Radiography courses.
Progressing into Radiography courses After enrolling as a Pre-Radiography student, you may apply for admission to start the two-year sequence of Radiography courses in fall or spring semesters. To be considered for progression into the Radiography courses, you must have:
You will first enroll as a Pre-Radiography student and take 1–2 semesters of liberal arts and sciences (LAS) courses, some of which are prerequisite courses that you must complete before beginning the Radiography courses. You’ll build skills essential to your future success in college and career — critical thinking, communication, teamwork, values and social justice, as well as work-ready liberal arts competencies.
• A cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher • Successful completion of General Anatomy & Physiology with Lab with a great of B or better • Successful completion of Medical Terminology and Biomedical Ethics with grade of C or better • No more than one repeat or withdrawal from Anatomy & Physiology within the last five years • Passed a background check or asked for an ARRT credentialing ethics review if needed. • All required immunizations.
Then, if approved, you’ll progress into a two-year sequence of Radiography major courses, combining oncampus classroom and lab experiences with on-site clinical rotations at area hospitals and clinics.

Class scheduling / time to completion Courses meet on the St. Kate’s campus in St. Paul. Liberal arts and sciences courses may be completed weekdays, evenings and online. The two-year sequence of Radiography courses meets in a full-time weekday format. During the Radiography sequence, you will be placed in daytime weekday clinical rotations. You may complete the Radiography degree within three years (1–2 semesters of liberal arts and sciences (LAS) courses, two-year sequence of Radiography courses).
