PUBLIC POLICY Are you motivated by complex problems? Do you like to combine different ways of thinking? Would you like to help solve social issues and inequities? Public policy decisions — laws and regulations — affect us all. Education policies, healthcare reform, and environmental laws all have far-reaching social effects. This program, grounded in political science, economics and public policy, takes a deep dive into policy research skills (statistics and cost-benefit analysis, for example) along with the importance of women’s leadership in government. Courses are often grounded in community work, and you’ll have the chance to conduct research alongside faculty.

GOVERNMENT Manage government programs or services for various economic and social groups, or, run for elected office and influence laws and policy NONPROFIT LEADERSHIP Lead, organize, and advocate for issues that are important to you

YOU WILL LEARN TO: • Discuss the critical role of public policy from a social justice and equality lens • Apply policy research skills — cost-benefit analysis, policy evaluation, data visualization — and craft an effective policy memo • Recognize the important role of women’s leadership in government • Build foundational skills in political science, economics, and public policy • Focus on topics such as healthcare, discrimination, and human rights

NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS (NGOs) Advance the goals of an organization dedicated to providing services and advocacy related to human rights, consumer protection, public health, environmentalism, and other social causes POLICY ANALYST Analyze existing or proposed policies and assess their impacts on communities and social groups

IMPACT: Work with local partner organizations on projects that impact the community. LEADERSHIP: Gain a rich liberal arts education with a focus on leadership skills that prepare you for a career.
