STEP INTO ST BENEDICT’S Welcome to St Benedict’s, one of London’s leading independent Catholic co-educational schools. Rooted in a rich Benedictine tradition, we combine academic excellence with a warm and inclusive community where every child is known, valued, and encouraged to flourish. Proud of our heritage yet firmly focused on the future, we embrace innovation, creativity, and opportunity, preparing young people with the confidence, character, and compassion to thrive in an ever-changing world. At St Benedict’s, young people thrive within a warm, happy, and caring community where they are known as individuals and encouraged to achieve their very best. We offer a seamless educational journey from Nursery through to Sixth Form, enabling children to grow in confidence, curiosity, and character at every stage of their development. Academically ambitious and committed to excellence, we combine high expectations with outstanding pastoral care and personal support. Inspirational teaching, strong relationships, and expert guidance help every young person discover their strengths, fulfil their potential, and develop a genuine love of learning. We recognise that every child is different and take pride in nurturing individual talents, interests, and aspirations. Our Nursery and Junior School provide a vibrant and supportive environment in which children can flourish. As part of an all-through school, families benefit from a seamless transition into the Senior School, with no 11+ examination hurdle to navigate. This allows our young people to focus on making the most of the rich educational opportunities available to them and to fully benefit from an academically ambitious curriculum designed to challenge, inspire, and prepare them for

future success. The close connection between the Junior and Senior Schools, located on the same site, also provides access to specialist facilities, teaching expertise, and cross-school opportunities from an early age. Beyond academic success, we place great importance on personal development. Guided by our Benedictine values, we encourage young people to become resilient, compassionate, and principled individuals who contribute positively to the world around them. Integrity, kindness, generosity, and respect for others are woven through every aspect of school life. Sport, Music, Art, Drama, and our extensive co-curricular programme are central to the St Benedict’s experience. Whether on the stage, on the sports field, in the classroom, or through one of the many clubs and activities on offer, young people are encouraged to explore new opportunities, develop their talents, and discover what inspires them. We believe that an outstanding education prepares young people not only for academic success, but also for happy, purposeful, and fulfilling lives. This is the St Benedict’s education: academic excellence, outstanding pastoral care, and a community where every child can thrive.

ADMISSION TO THE JUNIOR SCHOOL At St Benedict’s Junior School, we believe childhood should be filled with discovery, challenge, friendship, and joy. Our young people benefit from a nurturing environment where they are known as individuals, encouraged to be curious, and supported to develop confidence in themselves and their abilities.

Pre-Prep 1 (Reception) – Age 4+ Reception is one of the main entry points to St Benedict’s Junior School. Small class sizes enable our teachers to build strong relationships with every child and provide the individual attention needed to support both academic and personal development.

As part of an all-through school, we offer a seamless educational journey from Nursery through to Sixth Form. Our academically ambitious curriculum, outstanding pastoral care, and extensive co-curricular opportunities enable every child to flourish and make the most of their unique talents.

Application Process Children are invited to a friendly “Getting to Know You” session, where they take part in a range of ageappropriate activities individually and in small groups.

Nursery (Age 3+) Our Nursery welcomes children from the age of three, with entry points in September, January, and April, subject to availability. The Nursery provides a warm, stimulating, and playbased environment where children develop confidence, independence, communication skills, and a love of learning. We understand that every child develops at their own pace and work closely with families to ensure a positive and successful start to school life. Application Process As part of the admissions process, children are invited to attend a short play session, allowing us to get to know them in a relaxed and age-appropriate setting and to ensure that St Benedict’s is the right environment for them to thrive.

Pre-Prep 2 and Pre-Prep 3 (Years 1 and 2) Applications for Years 1 and 2 are welcomed throughout the year, subject to availability. Application Process Children are invited to spend time with us through a short assessment and informal meeting, allowing us to understand their strengths, interests, and readiness for the next stage of their education. Small class sizes ensure that every child receives personalised support and encouragement as they continue to develop academically, socially, and emotionally.

While admission to the Nursery does not automatically guarantee a place in Reception, the expectation is that children will continue their educational journey through the School wherever possible.

3

Lower Prep (Year 3) – Age 7+ Lower Prep marks the beginning of our Prep School and opens up an exciting range of new opportunities. Young people enjoy a broad and stimulating curriculum, taught by both form teachers and subject specialists, while continuing to benefit from excellent pastoral support. Application Process We welcome bright, curious, and enthusiastic learners who are eager to embrace all aspects of school life. The admissions process includes assessments in English and Mathematics, together with a taster day that allows children to experience life at St Benedict’s and gives us the opportunity to get to know them. Upper Prep to Form 2 (Years 4–6) Applications for Years 4–6 are considered throughout the year, subject to availability. Application Process Prospective pupils attend a taster day where they participate in literacy and numeracy assessments and

spend time in lessons and with their peers. This enables us to gain a holistic understanding of each child, recognising not only academic ability but also character, enthusiasm, and potential. A Seamless Journey to Senior School One of the unique benefits of joining St Benedict’s Junior School is the continuity it provides. Young people join with the expectation that they will progress to the Senior School at age 11, without the need to sit an 11+ entrance examination. This seamless transition allows children to focus on learning, growth, and making the most of the exceptional opportunities available to them. From an early age, they benefit from access to specialist teaching, senior school facilities, enrichment activities, and a curriculum designed to challenge and inspire. Offers and Registration Offers of a place are made following a successful assessment, a satisfactory reference from the child’s current school or setting, and a meeting with the Junior School Headmaster. Places are limited at all entry points and demand is often high. We therefore encourage families to register their interest early and to contact the Admissions Team to discuss availability and the application process. We look forward to welcoming you and your family to St Benedict’s.

“

Leaders in the early years have a clear awareness of the needs of children of this age and plan accordingly. Adults have an informed knowledge of pupils’ development and carefully guide children into new challenges to draw out the development of numeracy and language. ISI Inspection Report 2024

ADMISSION TO THE SENIOR SCHOOL As a High Performance Learning (HPL) World Class School, St Benedict’s is recognised for the exceptional quality of education we provide and our commitment to helping every student achieve their full potential. Students are encouraged to thrive within our supportive, co-educational community, where academic ambition is balanced with outstanding pastoral care and a wealth of opportunities beyond the classroom. Admission to Year 7 (11+) Joining St Benedict’s at 11+ marks the beginning of an exciting educational journey, where students quickly become part of a vibrant and inclusive community. Alongside a broad and challenging curriculum, they benefit from exceptional teaching, extensive co-curricular opportunities and a strong sense of belonging. Every student is encouraged to grow in confidence, discover new interests and develop the knowledge, skills and character to flourish throughout their time at St Benedict’s and beyond.

Application Process All external candidates sit the School’s 11+ entrance examination, the majority of whom will then be invited to an activity morning. The activity session will comprise a group task designed to assess candidates’ potential across a range of qualities that are central to life at St Benedict’s students, and which we seek to develop in all our students: • Communication • Empathy • Teamwork

• Creativity • Confidence • Inclusion

The activity morning is an integral part of the assessment process as it provides the candidate with an opportunity to demonstrate their personality and character within a relaxed atmosphere whilst getting to know their potential future classmates. It also enables our staff to observe and ascertain the contribution that candidates might make to the general life of the School. A reference is also sought from the candidate’s current school.

BURSARIES BURSARIES

20

Bursaries (Fee Assistance) At St Benedict’s School, we are committed to ensuring that talented and ambitious students can benefit from a St Benedict’s education, regardless of financial circumstances. A bursary differs from a scholarship in that it is based on the financial need of the applicant and the family. Bursary applications are available to all families who cannot afford all of the fees depending on their circumstances. Eligability Bursaries are available for entry into the Senior School at 11+ (Year 7) and into the Sixth Form at 16+ (Year 12). Awards are offered to students who demonstrate exceptional potential and who would make a positive contribution to the wider school community. In most cases, bursary recipients will also have been awarded a scholarship. Applying for a Bursary All bursary applications are means-tested and assessed individually. When determining the level of fee assistance, consideration is given to a family’s financial circumstances, including income, housing costs, siblings and capital assets.

As bursary funding is limited, we regret that we are unable to support every applicant, including some students who may have been awarded a scholarship. To be considered for a bursary, applicants must apply for a scholarship in one of the following areas: • Art & Design • Drama • Music

• Sport • Academic •

All 11+ applicants will automatically be considered for an academic scholarship based on their entrance examination. Please note that all bursary awards are subject to annual review and may be adjusted in line with any changes to family circumstances. The Bursary Application Process Before applying for a bursary, families must complete the relevant 11+ or 16+ Application Form, together with the appropriate Scholarship Application Form, via the school website.

If your combined family income exceeds £90,000 per annum or if you own significant assets, you are unlikely to qualify for a bursary on financial grounds.

Further information about the bursary application process, along with the school’s Bursary Policy, can be found on bursaries page of our website at www.stbenedicts.org.uk
