Kealba fire still burns By Tate Papworth A fi re burning within a waste cell at the Kealba Landfi ll site is yet to be located, despite a lengthy search by authorities. Landfi ll operator Barro Group notified the EPA of a suspected fi re on November 26. Residents close to the landfi ll had reported a “toxic, smokey chemical” smell lingering over the suburb for several weeks. The EPA has for a number of weeks said the hotspot is “under control” but it is still yet to locate it. EPA metro west regional manager Steve Lansdell said the complex nature of the “hotspot” was making it difficult to locate.

“Removal of landfi ll hotspots can be complex due to their potential depth and scale, as well as the need to minimise the risk of creating additional odour or further incidents of fi re,” he said. “Therefore EPA will proceed with caution and with public and staff safety the priority.” The cell was covered with a thick layer of clay to contain the smoke and odour, however it needs to be uncovered to extinguish the fi re, which is likely to create further odour. The environmental watchdog is yet to issue Barro with any infringements, but has ordered it to install air monitors and develop a community engagement plan. The EPA installed air monitors for a short-term period last week. While the data collected showed the air quality to be good, residents criticised the move as too late. Several residents say they’ve been forced to consult doctors for persistent coughs and have concerns as to what chemicals they’re breathing in. The landfi ll site has long been a point of contention for the community. The proposal to create the landfi ll was fi rst put forward in August 2010 and received more than 650 objections.

A Caroline Springs woman on a mission to stamp out child sex trafficking has made a bold bid to help her cause. Tiffany Shen has put herself forward for the title of Miss Australia International with the hope of boosting her public profile, which she says will help create public awareness and provide practical support to charities that work to protect children from the horrors of sex trafficking. “Quite clearly, this atrocious crime is trying to stay undetected so that it may continue to profit from illegal, lucrative activities like sex tourism,” she said. “Stamping out this shocking activity is really just one piece of the puzzle. “The other issue is that the children who somehow survive this cruel reality then either die from neglect, starvation, HIV, abuse, drug overdoses, disease or torture, or they need to somehow create a life for themselves whilst living with the mental and physical scars they have acquired.” Prior to beginning her campaign for the title of Miss Australia, Ms Shen helped out in administration for her parent’s retail business, had been running her own thriving beauty business and was putting her piano skills to the test across a number of Melbourne venues. Old laneways get new purpose By Tate Papworth Brimbank council has adopted a policy that could see disused laneways put to good use. In older areas of the municipality, such as St Albans and Sunshine, there are many laneways at the rear of properties, historically used for the “night-cart” (sewage disposal) and to provide alternative vehicle access to the rear of residential properties. In some cases these laneways have been discontinued by the council at the request of residents due to low use and security issues.

The council says it has also received complaints about vehicles using the laneways creating dust and noise, and the potential for vehicles to damage private fencing because of the narrowness of the laneways. Property developers sometimes propose to use laneways to provide access to a development rather than from the public road. In the past, the council has discouraged the notion, but it’s put forward a new set of guidelines for laneway use. Under the policy, the council will consider allowing a laneway to be used for permanent

vehicle access where the full length of the laneway is already sealed to a standard that meets council’s engineering standards. In certain circumstances it will also consider allowing a laneway to be used for permanent vehicle access where the laneway is not already sealed. By using the laneways there is no reduction in the amount of on-street parking and the naturestrip may be used for tree planting. Cr Margaret Giudice said a spike in applications proposing the use of laneways made the policy timely.

“I think these policy guidelines were actually quite necessary to add to developments which abut laneways,” she said. “I think the policy is important to clarify those guidelines.” Cr John Hedditch also supported the policy. “As a person who abuts a laneway and sees what goes on up and down the laneways from day to day, that it’s a very busy little place,” Cr Hedditch said. “I think there’s a real lot of merit in what’s been put in front of us, but I think there will be a times when council will have to think about how it operates … going forward.”

Brimbank’s electricity distributor is encouraging residents to prepare for extreme temperatures this summer. Powercor’s Ardeer office has put out a number of tips so that residents know what to do if the power goes out in an emergency. Tips include downloading the VicEmergency app, signing up for Powercor SMS outage notifications, and keeping emergency phone numbers handy. Other tips include ensuring phones and laptops are charged and keeping an emergency kit ready with cash for supplies, first-aid items, medications and torches. Powercor’s network safety and bushfire mitigation manager, Dene Ward, said even though the tips sounded simple, they could be easily overlooked in preparing for extreme weather events. “There is so much information available about how to plan and prepare for a bushfire emergency that it’s easy to forget about what impacts a power outage can have too – like causing ATMs to go down,” Mr Ward said. “Everyone needs to have a fire plan and maintain their property in line with Victorian government and emergency service advice, but Powercor hopes its tips help residents feel they have an added safety net should the lights go out.” Mr Ward said the electricity network was designed and maintained to cope with summer weather, but extreme heat and weather events added pressure.

South Morang boy Julian Ketteridge was recently named Victoria’s youngest community hero after saving his grandmother during a trip to Scienceworks in May. Julian, who was four at the time, had been spending the day with his grandmother, Jenelle, and baby sister Zoe. As they were leaving Scienceworks and Jenelle was putting the kids in the car, she suffered a cardiac arrest and collapsed on the ground, hitting her head. Julian jumped from the car and tried to wake her before calling out for help. His cries alerted Sunshine couple Lachlann Carter and Jenna Williams, who were bundling their own two children into their car. Earlier in the day, Lachlann’s son had been playing with Julian, virtually racing against Cathy Freeman. Lachlann sprinted over to perform CPR as Jenna called triple-0 and shielded Julian from what was unfolding. “I bolted across the carpark about 50 metres and just started CPR,” Lachlann said. “It was a deserted windswept carpark. I was screaming out for help and I was also singing at the top of my lungs, Stayin’ Alive, because I remembered from the first aid training.” Scienceworks staff arrived with a defibrillator and administered a shock before firefighters and paramedics arrived. Jenelle regained a pulse and started breathing. She was rushed to hospital where she remained for five days. “I feel very privileged and very lucky someone was there that day and someone nearby could do CPR and there was a defibrillator,” Jenelle said last week. Four charged following assault

Four teenagers have been charged in relation to the assault and robbery of a doctor at Sunshine Hospital last month. Four boys, all 17, were arrested on November 28. They have been charged with assault, robbery, handle stolen goods, theft of motor car and bail offences. All have been remanded to appear at the Children’s Court at a later date.

New jobs program A new program that aims to help elderly residents find employment is set to launch in Melton and Brimbank. The Reach, Train and Employment program will be run by The Council on the Ageing (COTA) Victoria, and is supported by the department of human services. It aims to increase employment outcomes for older Australians through accredited training and job placement in the aged care and disability services sector, supporting older people and people with disabilities. Tina Hogarth-Clarke, chief executive of COTA Victoria, said removing employment barriers for older residents was important. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, 6614 people or 5.3 per cent of the

A 42-year-old Braybrook man is behind bars after a high speed accident which left a car on its roof and three young children in hospital on December 7. Police said the man was driving a vehicle which struck a car carrying a family of five on the Western Ring Road on Saturday. The man had been caught by Brimbank Highway Patrol just 24 hours earlier on a stolen motor bike and was bailed for that incident.

Brimbank flies flags for all By Tate Papworth Brimbank council has voted in support of a community flag pole policy, which it says will accommodate requests to fly community flags. The council has earmarked a spot at the St Albans Community Centre for the pole. Cr Duyen Anh Pham said it was a terrific way to ensure heritage continued to be acknowledged. “We are talking about inclusive community,” she said. “We want our community to be proud of

A flag may be refused on the grounds that it’s connected to individual advancement, political or cultural sensitivities, or exposure to adverse criticism of council or the community as a whole. Only written applications to fly a flag will be considered.

Chefs out to impress Budding chefs at Mackellar Primary School are serving up a storm. The school’s grade 6 catering team felt inspired after a recent visit to Poly Technic TAFE to see how a commercial catering team operates. They participated in a two-course meal service and watched how students train to work in food service. Mackellar Primary School student wellbeing officer Tanya Lindsay-Clark said the six pupils came to the school with a bold idea. “The kids actually approached our food technology specialist Sally Wilson and asked if they could run their own cafe after the visit,” she said. “So we established the Honey Pot Cafe, which has been running for about a month now.” Each Thursday, the team prepares coffee and cake for the wider community, which Ms Lindsay-Clark said always generates

excitement. “It really brings the community together,” she said. “It presents an opportunity for all the parents and grandparents to meet each other and have a coffee and cake … it serves the community well.” Guests pay a $5 fee and are escorted to their table by the catering team. The cafe operates from 3-3.30pm and Ms Lindsay-Clark encouraged the school’s community to show their support. “We’ve had a number of people come through, including Brimbank councillor Margaret Giudice. “So come along to this exciting experience created by our student caterers who are looking forward to serving you,” she said. Caring for our water Junior detectives from a number of Brimbank schools have been investigating local waterways. Pupils at Mother of God, St Theresa’s, and Our Lady’s schools have taken part in the River Detectives initiative, aimed at connecting young people to their local waterways. As part of the program, schools receive a water quality monitoring kit; have the chance to record and explore data through an interactive website; and can download how-to guides, resources and activities linked to the Victorian Curriculum. Students and educators learn about everything from catching “waterbugs” to measuring pH and water salinity as part of the program.

Melbourne Water education officer Jane Petch said the program is a great way to combine education and environmental care. “Having hands-on scientific activities helps students discover more about their local creeks and connect with nature that’s right on their doorstep,” she said. “They also feel empowered to help care for their local environments by planting trees and teaching others what they have learned.” Since 2017, more than 50 schools have participated in the program. Brimbank finds gold in garage sale The Garage Sale trail has struck a chord with Brimbank residents. The council recently won the 2019 Next Door Community Engagement Award for its involvement in the national program, which had more than 400,000 people take part in more than 25,000 garage sales. Award judges said that Brimbank stood out for the creative, committed and energetic way in which it embraced the program. Mayor Georgina Papafotiou said the event was a huge success on a number of fronts. “Brimbank’s Garage Sale Trail was held on 19 and 20 October with more than 2400 people involved,” Cr Papafotiou said. “Even more impressive, each garage sale on the trail saw an estimated 500 kilograms of items save from landfi ll. “There were 450 sales and stalls held in Brimbank. That’s up 145 per cent on 2018.” Cr Papafotiou lauded the community’s involvement in making the program such a success in Brimbank and announced it would return in 2020. Property data at your fingertips By Ewen McRae A new partnership is set to make the home buying experience easier. Property data leader CoreLogic has combined with realestateview.com.au to provide a state-of-the-art price estimator, giving property owners and property seekers instant price value ranges for properties across the state. Every address searched has a range of property data and demographic information relevant to the suburb where it is located.

Toby Balazs, chief executive of realestateview. com.au, said nearly every home buyer used a price estimator in their search, and combining with CoreLogic gave searchers the trust they needed. “We believe that we will have the most accurate property data that can be accessed by home buyers,” Mr Balazs said. “The breadth and depth of property data that CoreLogic brings to us right across the country is amazing, and they’ve got a very strong name in the property industry. We believe by us partnering with them we can provide our

property-seeking audience with more data, accurate data, and give them confidence when they’re performing a property search.” Launching last week, the price estimator will provide home buyers and sellers with an Automated Valuation Model on any property they search through the portal. Mr Balazs said it would be particularly useful as the market goes through a period of fluctuation, with prices in general rising after a previous downturn in the market. “I think it’s an important tool in any market,” he said.

“Australians, as we know, are property obsessed, so there’s no shortage of interest in property. “Whether it be an up-swing or a down-swing in the market, it’s always important to know where the value sits, but in what has been a tough market in 2019 it’s always important to understand what those property price indicators are at an individual level, and then get it verified by one of our agent partners. “For buyers, sellers and vendors, to know what to expect if you take a property to market is very important.”

Singing stars graduate A group of Sunshine-based singers has been rewarded for striking a chord with the community. The Little Ray of Sunshine choir held its annual graduation ceremony last week, paying homage to the singers who put their heart and soul into the year of performances. The choir was set up 18 month ago through Duke Street Housing and aims to provide a place for people with a disability to come together. Community development worker Anthony Jobe said it’s about more than singing. “It’s a choir with a difference. The main aim is to improve literacy and numeracy,” he said. “We write songs, sing karaoke, learn songs about telling the time … that sort of thing. “We also do public performances at community centres, aged care facilities and community events.” He said strong relationships have been

formed through the program. “Music is a good outlet for people to express themselves,” he said. “We get to spend a lot of the time being ourselves and not caring what other people think.” The choir has about 25 members, but Mr Jobe said there’s always room for more. “We don’t discriminate, everyone is welcome. “The program runs every Friday from 10am-noon at the Salvation Army Church Hall in Sunshine.” Details: 0402 762 768 Tate Papworth

Cr Lara Carli It was my great pleasure to launch Melton City Council’s new Advocacy Priorities, at City Vista Sports Precinct, Plumpton, last Monday. The 10 priorities, which form the basis of Council’s vision to transform our City into one of the most liveable areas in the country, are aligned to five key pillars: roads, education, public transport, health and human services, and sport and recreation. With our population set to triple over the next 30 years, these priorities identify our critical and future service and infrastructure needs, and outline how the State and Federal Governments can partner with Council to deliver them for our community.

Over the holiday period, from Tuesday 24 December until Wednesday 1 January, Melton City Council’s opening hours and bin collection service will be affected. Bin collection Collections that would normally fall on Wednesday 25, Thursday 26, and Friday 27 December will be collected one day later. All other collections will be made as per usual.

We want our community to be a place people aspire to live, raise a family and run a business. These priorities not only identify urgently needed infrastructure and services, but also

seek to create opportunities for residential development, employment, commercial and recreational investment as a way of creating a community that’s well connected, has diverse education and job opportunities, and offers positive health and wellbeing outcomes. Online boost for west tourism By Ewen McRae Melbourne’s west could be set for a tourism boom, after the launch of a new website specifically to promote events and attractions across the western suburbs. The new online platform was launched by Western Melbourne Tourism on November 29, and will be the fi rst of its kind for the region, providing both locals and visitors with a one-stop-site for the latest happenings in Melbourne’s west. The website will include six council areas, including Melton. Western Melbourne Tourism executive officer Richard Ponsford said it would be a valuable tool for both large and small-scale events across the region. “Being such a multicultural area, Melbourne’s west is home to a rich and diverse, year-round calendar of events,” Mr Ponsford said. “Using state-of-the-art technology, we have created a website which captures everything that is happening across the region, presenting it on one user-friendly platform. “Western Melbourne Tourism has partnered with technology company Everi to deliver this unique event feed, which is by far the most comprehensive list of ‘What’s On’ that you’ll fi nd for Melbourne’s west.” Western Melbourne Tourism board chair Jan Jacklin said that the new What’s On platform clearly demonstrated what

was possible when a cohesive approach to promoting a region was taken. “From small community-run events, to one-off workshops and performances, to arts, cultural and food-focused festivals, our exciting calendar of events is a real strength for Melbourne’s west,” Ms Jacklin said. “Our team has worked closely with our six partner city councils to deliver a platform that ensures both locals and visitors can easily access details of what’s happening in the west. “We want to ensure those people who are already living in the west, or who are planning on visiting Melbourne’s west, are aware of just how much is happening around them, ensuring they stay local and spend their tourist dollars locally.” The What’s On platform can be viewed at melbourneswest.com.au/whats-on 12431657-FA52-19

Asbestos fence fears By Tate Papworth Cyclists claim that temporary fencing designed to keep people away from asbestos in Brimbank Park has now become a safety issue. The fence was put up by Parks Victoria in April 2016 after the discovery of asbestos in a section of the park between Green Gully Road and Kulin Wetlands and on both sides of the pedestrian trail near Taylors Creek. At the time, Parks Victoria said it would work to have the asbestos clean-up occur as safely and quickly as possible. Cyclist Neil Hunichen, who rides through the park on a weekly basis, said the fence has become a safety issue. “It’s temporary fencing, but … we’ve got to ask, when does temporary become permanent? “It clearly collapsing in at points, has moved around a bit and is sticking out in places. They’re not designed to endure.” He said yellow weights at the bottom of the fence are of particular concern. “The yellow bits at the bottom stick out from the fence, in some cases onto the track,” Mr Hunichen said. “If a cyclist were to hit one, they’d go flying over their handlebars and be in a fair bit of trouble.” It is believed the asbestos is located in an area with buried indigenous artefacts which is making its removal difficult. Mr Hunichen said the delay was also impacting visitation to the park. “There’s only a handful of entry points to the park, so by blocking up one for an extended period, we’re really limiting the amount of people who come through.” Parks Victoria was contacted for comment. In April 2018 it said it was working on a plan to treat the remainder of the affected area.

Sievers Lee is a long-established law firm in Sunshine, having its roots in Sievers & Sievers, established in the 1930s, and Telfer & Graham, established in the 1960s which then became Graham, Sievers & Lee in the 1990s.

Merger of Local Lawyers and Sievers Lee

Richard Lee began his legal career at Telfer & Graham and has been a fixture at the firm since. Nam Vo joined Sievers Lee straight from university 10 years ago and has assisted Richard with many long-standing clients, as well as developing a new client base in the Vietnamese community. Local Lawyers is a merger of four long-standing law firms that combined to form the largest law firm in the western suburbs. They have developed into a modern firm, operating from state-of-the-art premises at the Millers Junction Business Park in Altona North. The principals of Local Lawyers are Russell Cocks and his two sons, David Cocks and Andrew Cocks, and their business partner, Andrew Marcina. Both Sievers Lee and Local Lawyers have experienced and valued staff members who will ensure that the new firm continues to provide the best legal advice available to the many valued existing clients, at a cost that provides fair value for money. There is a certain synchronicity with Nam Vo and Russell Cocks coming together in one firm. Nam undertook his law degree at Deakin University in the mid-2000s and Russell Cocks was a lecturer in Property Law and Legal Ethics at Deakin at that time. Russell also coached a team that competed in a competition in Vienna, Austria, and Nam was a member of that team. Nam credits that experience as one that changed his life. Russell later recommended Nam to Richard Lee as an employee, and Nam has remained at Sievers Lee since that time. Deakin University is also a common theme at the two firms, with David Cocks, Andrew Marcina, Stephen Kirby, Jordan Kovco and Louise Rebesco also holding Deakin degrees. Alex Lawrence is about to complete her degree. Deakin University focuses on the practical application of the law and this suits the philosophy of Local Lawyers, who strive to assist their clients to achieve practical legal solutions. WRFL locks in 2020 season By Tara Murray The Western Region Football League’s 90th season will get underway on April 4, with the top two divisions kicking off the action. Division 1 and 2 will get underway on the first weekend in April, while the division 3 season will start on April 18, after the Easter break. The top division will remain a 10 team competition, with division 2 premier Yarraville Seddon Eagles replacing Albion, who was relegated. The Eagles’ return to the top flight will start with an away match against Point Cook. They will unveil their premiership flag the following round against Spotswood. Seven-time reigning premiers Deer Park will get to unveil its premiership flag in round one when it faces Caroline Springs at home. Hoppers Crossing will host Sunshine, Altona will play St Albans and Spotswood faces Werribee Districts in other first-round matches. The teams will then have a break the following week for Easter. Each team will play each other twice, in an 18 round season. All teams will play on Anzac Day, which this year falls on a Saturday. The first grand final rematch between the Lions and Altona will be held in round eight, with the two teams to face each other again in round 17. Local rivals Altona and Spotswood play each other for the first time on Anzac Day, while the

Wyndham derby between Hoppers Crossing and Werribee Districts also falls on that day. The grand final will be held on September 19. The top two divisions will have competition-wide byes on the Queen’s Birthday weekend and July 25. Division 2 will again be an eight team competition, with Albion dropping down into the division after being relegated, while Glen Orden has been promoted after winning the division 3 premiership. Like division 1, it will start on April 4, before a break for Easter. It will be an 18 week season, with the grand final scheduled for the weekend of September 12. Parkside hosts Wyndamvale in round one, with Glen Orden to unveil its premiership flag as its hosts Newport. Point Cook Centrals host West Footscray and Albion plays North Footscray in the other opening round matches. The first derby between the two Footscray teams falls in round 16. The division 3 competition has a later start, but will have 19 rounds, to ensure every team plays an equal amount of games, with three byes each. It will be a seven team competition, with Manor Lakes, which withdrew from division 2 midway through the season, unable to get a team back up and running and no team relegated. In the opening round, Wyndham Suns face North Sunshine, Tarneit hosts Braybrook, while Sunshine Heights plays Albanvale. Laverton will have to wait a week to kick off its season with a bye in round one. The junior competition will start on April 5.

SPORT New-look Devils put ghosts of the past behind them There’s plenty happening down at Keilor Park as it prepares for next year’s Essendon District Football League division 2 season. After returning to the field this year, the Devils have been working hard behind the scenes to step it up a level next year. New coach Paul Guicas said he was thrilled with how things were going. “It’s all positive,” he said. “Pre-season has been great and the most we’ve had at training is about 59. We’ve been averaging about 45 at training at the moment. “We had some players come down that played in our last finals team three years ago. They saw the excitement in the group. “It’s a credit to the president and whole committee.” Having gone through last season winless, the Devils are coming from a long way back.

Guicas is quick to give praise to those who played last season and got the side back up and running. “Having those players last year, it’s set a base for us. “They are really important and gave us the opportunity. A few who have come back are quality footballers.” The Devils have been one of the busiest teams on the recruiting front so far. More than 30 clearances have already been put in for new players. Most of those have come from East Keilor, where Guicas was previously coaching. He said it was a credit to East Keilor for understanding the situation and getting the transfers done. Others are coming from Strathmore and PEGS. Guicas said most of the players were playing

reserves football and wanted the opportunity to step up into senior football. He said some had played senior football, but weren’t able to secure a regular game. “It’s the opportunity to play senior football,” he said. “Four played in a division grand final three years ago, and are now a bit older. “We’ve picked up a few from Strathmore where I had coached before, they are four quality players coming across. “A few of them will be really good at this level. They will have an instant impact.” The Devils are still talking to players and could have another three or four sign on. The new signings has given the club confidence that it could get a reserves side back up and running, after not fielding one for the past two years.

“We are confident of having a reserves side,” Guicas said. “[Reserves coach] Daniel Galea and I sat down and mocked up two sides. I can’t see us not having two sides. “We’re building depth and building from the bottom up.” Things are going well off field as well for the Devils, with a number of new sponsors jumping on board. Guicas said they weren’t getting too carried away with what to expect. “We just want to be competitive for every second of every minute of every game and the rest will come. “We want to win and the sky is the limit for us.” Tara Murray

Blues retain their stars By Tara Murray Keilor’s motivation remains high early in the Essendon District Football League premier division pre-season. Coming off a perfect season, many could forgive the Blues for being slightly off in their preparations for the 2020 season, but coach Mick McGuane said early signs were there was still a lot of motivation among the group. “It’s been pretty good,” he said. “We started later than most, but we fi nished later than most. “The numbers have been good and the appetite to train is positive … complacency can set in at times.” The Blues’ hopes of going back-to-back have got off to a perfect start with the whole premiership side sticking around. On top of that, a number of players who missed the premiership are looking good on the track. “Our 22 in the grand fi nal are still at Keilor,” McGuane said. “Then you’ve got those who didn’t play, Nick O’Kearney, Jesse Wallin, Damien Cavka and Brock McGregor. They are looking good.” O’Kearney and Cavka are among the Blues players training at VFL clubs. If they get onto the park for the Blues, it will only make them stronger. “We know they are elite players in the competition,” McGuane said. “Nick has had no luck and Cavka hasn’t had a run at it. The fi rst three rounds of our best and fairest and they were prominent. “We lost McGregor in the Pascoe Vale game too. “A lot would think it’s a long way back from losing those types of players.” The Blues’ new recruits will also add to the side’s midfield depth. McGuane said Luke Cartilli, who returns to the club, wants to fi nish his career at the Blues. Paul Sahlberg, who played his junior football at the Blues, has come across from Riddell District Football League outfit Riddell, where he won a league best and fairest award in 2015. Both are able to play in the midfield, which will put pressure on some of the experienced players already in the team. McGuane said they were still talking to a few players who might have VFL commitments, about coming across as well. The Blues look set to have six sides in their senior set-up next season, with the club likely to have the numbers to have a senior, reserves, two thirds sides and two under-18 sides. McGuane said it was a testament to the hard work put in.

Keilor secured its spot in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association T20 finals on Tuesday night. Needing a win against Airport West St Christophers, the Blues came away with the points comfortably. Airport West elected to bat and made 9-99 from its 20 overs. The Blues shared the wickets around with all five bowlers picking up at least one wicket. Nasir Malik, Nilanka Premaratne and Callum Guest took two wickets apiece. The Blues got off to a solid start with the bat, before starting to lose frequent wickets, to be 4-48. The Blues lost just one more wicket, on the way to 5-103. Skipper Kaushal Lokuarachchi top scored with 27 not out. The win sees Keilor finish atop the Bradman group undefeated. St Albans finished second with two wins, after beating PEGS on Tuesday night. PEGS made 9-107 from its overs, which St Albans reached with ease, finishing 1-110 with four overs remaining. The Blues were one of the last teams through to the finals, with many teams finishing their matches last month. Among those to already qualify for finals was Sunshine United and Sunshine which were also undefeated. Other finalists include Doutta Stars, Yarraville Club, West Coburg, Royal Park-Brunswick, Williamstown Imperials, Maribyrnong Park St Marys, Sunbury, Gellibrand, Point Cook and Footscray United.
