There is a strong sense of community and housing is still relatively affordable, which is why we are seeing a lot of people, particularly young families, moving to the area. “We need commitments at both the federal and state level to ensure our residents can get to and from where they need to go safely and spend more time with family.”

At the last federal election in 2022, Melton council urged the Labor and Liberal parties to invest in key roads in the municipality, such as the Western Highway. Three years later, thousands of new residents have moved into the area and the council is still seeking the funding needed to improve transport infrastructure. With a federal election due before mid-May, the council is calling for urgent upgrades to the Western Highway between Caroline Springs and Melton, and electrification of the Melton rail line. “We are asking for the same investment in transport infrastructure as we did back [in 2022]. In the meantime, the City of Melton continues to grow at a rapid rate, with our population projected to more than double to almost 480,000 people within 30 years,
