Crime hits a 10-year low By Laura Michell Crime in Brimbank fell to a 10-year low in the 12 months to March, new crime data reveals. According to Crime Statistics Agency (CSA) data, 16,839 offences were recorded in Brimbank in the year to March, down 11.8 per cent from March 2021, when 19,082 offences were recorded. The CSA data shows that as of March this year, the municipality’s crime rate had fallen to its lowest level since 2013 (18,643), when CSA records began. Acting Inspector Jamie Walker described the drop in overall crime across Brimbank as “incredibly positive”. “It is especially pleasing to see steady decreases in crimes against the person, theft offences including vehicle theft which greatly impact the community,” Acting Inspector Walker said. “The decrease in overall crime can also be attributed to the drop in the number of chief health officer breaches that occurred last year, with an approximate 86 per cent drop in the number of public health and safety offences as we saw greater compliance in the community with the CHO directions. “We are seeing really low crime rates as the community gradually comes out of the pandemic, however we are prepared for increases through our proactive operations and by maintaining a highly visible presence in the community to not only detect but deter offending before it occurs.” While overall crime fell, Brimbank recorded a 12.4 per cent increase in thefts from motor vehicles, with 2377 offences recorded in the year to March, up from 2114 the previous year. “Unfortunately we saw an increase in thefts from vehicles, however when comparing with pre-pandemic levels the figures remain relatively stable. Our intelligence indicates the vast majority of these offences occur when cars are left unlocked or windows are left open, so while we will continue to run regular operations to target this offending we are urging the community to ensure their valuable items are secure, including locking car doors and not leaving valuable items in plain sight in their vehicles,” Acting Inspector Walker said. Brimbank also recorded a 2.3 per cent increase in breaches of family violence orders (1703 offences recorded) despite a 6.1 per cent drop in family violence incidents in the year to March.
Modelling positivity Tishya Del Rosario hopes to promote body positivity while competing in Top Model Australia. The St Albans resident will compete in the model search competition’s national final on Sunday, July 10. The winner will travel to London to compete at an international level and walk in London Fashion Week in September. The 23-year-old said she wanted to let other young women know that they are not alone in their body struggles. Tishya, who is an Instagram influencer, gave birth to her son in 2021 after completing her final year of an international business degree at RMIT. She said that during her pregnancy she experienced a lot of criticisms about her body because she was known for her ‘petite’ look. “I felt then the sting of online bullying and body shaming and trolls that would even create ghost accounts to leave hurtful comments,” she said. “No one should be able to comment about your body and let that stop you from believing in yourself and your own goals. “I want to show through this journey in Top Model to other young women that in their body struggles, they are not alone and to never let anyone belittle your worth to their standards.”

Small change to green waste bin, big environmental impact
Food scrap recycling is coming to Brimbank from 1 July. Residents who use Council’s optional green waste service (light green bin lid) will be able to add food scraps to this bin along with their garden clippings. Food organics make up about 50% of waste in garbage bins and end up in landfill – which is bad for the environment. When food breaks down in landfill it produces methane, a harmful greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change. However, when you add food to your green waste bin it can be turned into mulch and compost. This compost is used to enrich soil on farms, parks and gardens. There is no additional charge for residents to add food waste in their green waste bin, and no changes to when green waste bins are collected. A group of year 11 and 12 students from Overnewton Anglican Community College are hoping to raise awareness of youth mental health and create a safe space for young people to seek help when they present a bill to the YMCA Youth Parliament later this month. The students will present the Compulsory Counselling Sessions Bill 2022 to the Youth Parliament’s Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, June 28. Year 11 student and Youth Parliament deputy premier Gabrielle said she hopes the bill will put pressure on the state government to address the mental health crisis and help raise awareness to the importance of mental wellbeing in the wider community. “The program has given me a platform to develop and express my views on mental health and how the government operates in and
around mental health,” she said. “My own experience with mental illness and receiving various mental health services gives me a deeper insight into the issue and allows me to make a change.” Jade, also in year 11, said the group believed that young people suffering mental ill-health should not be silenced or ignored. She said introducing counselling sessions in schools would help start conversations around mental health. Fellow year 11 student Maneesha said the Youth Parliament program had been inspiring. “ This has further invigorated my passion to continue to be involved in my community and make a change, as through Youth Parliament I have seen the difference that can be made through the passion and unification of young people.”

Masterplan funding questioned By Tara Murray The masterplan for the redevelopment of the Sunshine precinct as part of the Melbourne Airport rail link is set to be released later this year. Work on the masterplan has been in progress since last year when the state government released the vision and framework for the development late last year. The Sunshine precinct is set to provide key opportunities to boost employment, investment and liveability through planning
in the Sunshine area. Western Metropolitan MP Catherine Cumming recently raised questions in state Parliament, querying when the masterplan would be released. She also questioned when funding for the project would be allocated, with no funding in the recent state or federal budgets. “I want to clarify when the Sunshine precinct will be funded,” she said. “Prior to the state election in November 2019, the Victorian government announced there will need to be a significant redevelopment of
the Sunshine area and Sunshine Superhub.” “Brimbank City Council welcomed the announcement of an opportunity statement and this was followed by consultation earlier this year on the nine key project ideas. “Despite these concepts, the Victorian government is yet to provide any certainty of the financing and the delivery of the key project.” Dr Cumming said residents were yet to see any real promise delivered in the project. She has since also called for Albion station and that quarter to be redeveloped to unlock
the potential in the area. A state government spokesperson said the government was continuing to develop the Sunshine station masterplan. The state government has also committed $20 billion investment in infrastructure in Melbourne’s west, which includes fast transport connections to Melbourne’s CBD, Melbourne Airport Rail, the Suburban Rail Loop and regional rail network, the spokesperson said.
Reuse your food scraps Brimbank residents will soon be able to add food scraps to their green waste bin. From Friday, July 1, council will accept food scraps in the municipality’s light green lidded bins, in addition to garden clippings. According to council, food organics make up about 50 per cent of waste in garbage bins and ends up in landfill. When food breaks down in landfill it produces methane, a harmful greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change. However, food scraps in green waste bins can be turned into mulch and compost. Mayor Jasmine Nguyen said Victorian households throw out about 250,000 tonnes of food each year, which is enough to fill Melbourne’s Eureka Tower. “Adding food scraps to our green waste bins is one easy way we can all reduce our individual carbon footprint, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and live more sustainably. If you haven’t already got a green waste bin, why not
look into it now?” Cr Nguyen said. There is no additional charge for residents to add food waste in their green waste bin, and no changes to when green waste bins are collected. The types of food waste accepted in green waste bins includes fruit and vegetable scraps, meat and bones, seafood, dairy products, egg shells, bread, pasta, rice, coffee grounds and loose leaf tea. Don’t place any type of plastic, paper, animal droppings, kitty litter, coffee pods, nappies, or liquids in this bin. Level crossing works Works will occur in and around Deer Park station as the removal of the Mt Derrimut Road level crossing continues. Track and electrical work will occur near Robinsons Road between June 28 and July 8. As part of the works, about 250 car parking spaces at the station will be closed until late 2023. There will be ongoing lane closures at times on Station and Tilburn roads, Railway Parade and Railway Parade South. There will also be minor pedestrian detours in place until late 2022.

A new state of the art community health space that will service the Brimbank and wider community is now open. IPC Health opened its Sunshine campus on Wednesday with an open day for people to check out the new location. Chief executive Jayne Nelson said they have a unique demographic that requires assistance. Services available at the campus include, family services, healthy mothers and babies, counselling, gamblers help, drug and alcohol counselling, dietetics, physiotherapy and a women’s health nurse. “When the lease expired at our old campus,
we looked for a new building that would allow us to retrofit with purpose to be able to meet the needs of this demographic,” she said. “We have put in all our own walls and rooms and planned this campus and its functionality from scratch.” The new campus is close to public transport and features include a modern comfortable waiting room, onsite car parking at discounted rate, a safe, enclosed children’s play area, brand new facilities and parent’s room, consult rooms overlooking a new paediatrics observation room, a large physiotherapy gym, ideal for group sessions and brand new podiatry and physiotherapy equipment.
A man has been charged after about $22.3 million worth of crystal methamphetamine was allegedly found hidden in shoeboxes in his luggage at Melbourne Airport. The 76-year-old Canadian national arrived on a flight from Los Angeles on June 8, after which he had a large black suitcase examined by Australian quarantine officials who discovered a crystalline substance in about seven shoeboxes. Australian Federal Police officers seized the drugs and charged the man with importing a commercial quantity of a border-controlled drug, namely methamphetamine. The man was remanded in custody.

Coburn Ward with Cr Ashleigh Vandenberg I’m pleased to advise that two Notices of Motion I put forward at the 30 May Council meeting were carried, resulting in positive outcomes for our city. The first, on the back of our Fix Our Roads campaign, will see Council officers prepare a report on new road infrastructure in our key growth areas, and explore options around how we can facilitate the early delivery of these roads – demonstrating a desire and capacity for forward planning and ensuring priority development of roads within the City of Melton.
The second requested support to formally install both the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags within Council Chambers, alongside the Australian flag and the City of Melton flag. This motion was passed unanimously and will be implemented in coming weeks. Council will consider its 2022/2023 Budget at a Special Meeting on Monday 27 June. Once adopted, we look forward to sharing some of the exciting projects that will be funded over the next 12 months, including programs, services, new facilities and special projects that are sure to make
the City of Melton an even better place to live, work and raise a family. I’m pleased to tell you that last week, we marked the official start of works on the Rockbank Murray Road Children’s and Community Centre in Thornhill Park. The facility is generously co-funded with the State Government and will provide much-needed services for young families in the area. This centre is set to open in 2023 and will enable us to support our youngest residents through their early development, giving them the best possible start we can. On Monday, Council will also consider adopting the 2022/23 Budget. Every year, we consider our city’s growing and diverse needs as we allocate funds towards high-quality infrastructure, programs, services, and facilities for our community, and this year will be no different. I look forward to sharing the details with you once it’s adopted. Lions hoping luck turns as young stars step up Unlucky is the best way to describe the season so far for Taylors Lakes in the Essendon District Football League division 2. Having come down to division 2 after a winless 2021 in the higher division, the Lions sit in sixth spot after eight rounds. Lions president David Darcy said results wise, it hadn’t quite been the year they were after, there were plenty of good signs for the future. “We’re quite happy with the way things are going,” he said. ‘We were never going to come down and dominate. We virtually turned over our whole list and are building together.” Darcy said the average age of the side each week was 19 to 21, with the group really sticking together and working well. He said having had an older group in recent years, they needed to start over again and build something.
“We always planned to rebuild,” he said. “It was a very old list. “We knew it would be hard and we would have to go backwards to go forward. They’ve been quite good and I can’t fault them at all.” While the ladder shows two wins, heading into the game against Northern Saints on Saturday, after deadline, a closer look shows how close the Lions are. Four of their games were decided by less than two goals, including a draw against Burnside Heights. Among those losses was a one point loss to top side Keilor Park. Darcy said the difference in those matches was the experience of the other sides at the crucial points of the match. “Young kids and young bodies,” he said, was the reason for not being able to get over the line. “If we can win one the confidence will grow.
The group is really tight and sticking together. “This will make the club stronger for years to come.” Darcy said there were plenty of young stars who had stood up this season including the likes of Luke Nappi and Tomi Ibarra. Returning to the field after a week off with the Queen’s Birthday long weekend, Darcy said the group was still focused on trying to make finals. “We’ll keep going out there trying to win games,” he said. “It will come our way great, if not it will make us stronger for next year.” Darcy said while it had been tough at times for the senior team, the rest of the club was going well, with the club having junior sides in every age group. Lions see bright future By Tara Murray Deer Park is sitting better than it expected at the halfway point of the Western Region Football League division 1 season. The Lions won six matches in the first round of matches between the sides and sat in fourth spot heading into the second round of matches which kicked off on Saturday. Lions coach Mark McGoldrick said they would have been happy to sit 6-3 at this stage of the year. “We’re probably a game ahead of where we thought we would be,” he said. “Getting the win against Werribee [Districts] at Werribee was a plus for us. We thought we might be 5-4, so we have a game up our sleeve.” The Lions three losses have come to the three teams above them on the ladder entering round 10. In each the Lions, were beaten easily. McGoldrick said there was a bit of a gap between the two two teams and the rest of the competition. “There looks to be two standout clubs at the
moment, Caroline Springs and Altona,” he said. “They beat us both convincingly … they beat us by 60 points. We’re still a rebuilding club. “There’s then a big gulf. Third to seventh is very even half way through.” McGoldrick said the focus for the second half of the season continued to be on development. The long term future of the Lions is the key. “We said to the guys, things we would put in place, would see improvement in the second half of the season,” he said. “If that means we win 12 games, even if we win 11 games, it’s a couple more than we would have thought. “That’s a plus for us as we’re looking to the future.” The Lions playing stocks will receive a couple of boosts in the coming week. Multiple premiership winning star Jack Purton-Smith played his first game back before the break and will only get better. Star Kwame Mcharg and Lachlan Smart should also be back in the next couple of weeks.

“When they’re back and firing, they will make a difference, especially in the midfield,” McGoldrick said. “They’ll give us some bigger body midfielders.“ The Lions were set to get an idea of how far they had improved this season, facing Caroline Springs on Saturday, after deadline. McGoldrick said before the game they were expecting a really good tear. “To have the junior program they’ve had for the last 12 to 15 years and then smart recruiting by them, they’re sending out a message to the rest of the competition. “We’re playing them at home. Hopefully we can be more competitive. Last time the scoreboard showed 15 goals to six or seven. “We need to hit the scoreboard a bit more and strengthen our game defensively.” In other matches on the weekend, Hoppers Crossing was set to face Sunshine, Spotswood was to play Yarraville Seddon Eagles, St Albans was to host Altona and Werribee Districts was to play Point Cook.
The task of knocking off National Premier League powerhouse Avondale proved too much for the Brimbank Stallions in the Australia Cup on Tuesday night. The biggest game of the state league 1 north-west side’s history, the Stallions faced Avondale, which is three divisions above them, for a spot in the national stage of the knockout Australia Cup competition. Avondale scored in the seventh minute and again in the 10th minute to take control of the game. It would score twice more before the break to lead 4-0 at half time. The scoring continued just after the break through Liam Boland. Avondale would score three more goals to seal an 8-0 win. Stefan Valentini scored a hat-trick in the win. Stallions coach Andrew Marth said before the match that they knew they had nothing to lose out there. It’s the first time the Stallions had made it that far in the competition. “It is a David and Goliath battle,” he said. “They are the best team in the NPL and I’m great mates with their coach. I rate them extremely highly. “For us in the last four to five years to have come from division 4 to division 1 and now have a chance to get into the last 32 of the Australia Cup is a huge achievement.” The Stallions were one of two state league teams knocked out on Tuesday night, with Bentleigh Greens beating Banyule City 3-0. The Greens and Avondale, join Heidelberg United, Green Gully and the Oakleigh Cannons through to the national stage. Netball rising star grabs her chance at success There is an old saying that goes something like, “the harder you work, the luckier you become.” For rising netball star Charlotte Morey, that is exactly the case. The chance to try out for the Victorian under-17 team as a bottom ager in 2020, Morey realised what the future might hold “I had never been selected to trial before,” she said. “I was nervous and excited at the same time. “I was cut in the second round which put me in the top 60 players, but a long way from where I wanted to be. I used it as my driver. “I probably hadn’t used my netball time during COVID to the best of my ability. I wasn’t going to make the same mistake again.” Morey followed in her mother’s footsteps by signing up for netball’s ‘Net, Set Go’ when she was six-years-old. She then played at Altona Netball Association as a junior, but found the competition wasn’t as competitive as she would have liked and joined South Barwon in the Geelong Football Netball League from the under-15’s. As well as her weekly matches, she has represented the Elmer region at the state titles.
She again tried out for the Victorian under-17 for a second straight year. This time she made the final team. “I was very excited,” she said. “My mindset was simple, do everything the coaches ask, leave nothing on the court because it could be my last state team.” Morey’s national championships was a strong one and resulted in her being picked in the Australian under-17 squad. She is currently training one night a week at the State Netball Centre in Parkville and looking forward to the five-day camp at the AIS in Canberra later in the year. That’s on top of a typical week for the Maribyrnong Sports Academy student. A normal week includes training in Geelong with her local team South Barwon and games Geelong Cougars in the Victorian Netball League. On Saturday it’s games with South Barwon. “Netball is a body strength game, particularly in the middle where you must use your body to gain an advantage,” she said. “I play in the middle as a wing attack, centre or goal attack. You can add five weekly strength and conditioning sessions to my
on-court training sessions so I can compete against other very strong players.” Morey’s favourite player is Aussie Diamond, Liz Watson. So what does the future hold for Morey? “I’ve always barracked for the Vixens in the SunCorp Super Netball League, I’d love to play for them … or any club really,” she said with laughter. “A chance to play for the Diamonds would be absolutely amazing.” Morey is the monthly nominee for the Don Deeble Sports award. By Tara Murray Making an Australian karate team was a dream come true for Nicholas Gavos, let alone winning a medal. The Keilor Downs College year 11 student earlier this month competed at the 2022 Oceania Championships against some of the best fighters in the world in New Caledonia. In his first time competing at a competition of this level, Gavos won silver in the junior over-76 kilograms category. “It was pretty surreal to be at a tournament like that,” he said. “To be on a big stage for the first time representing Australia after days, months and years of preparation. “Both my parents and my coaches have supported me as I’ve done this on top of school. “It’s been hard work on both ends.” Gavos said he didn’t have big expectations heading into the event, other than to have fun and enjoy the experience of facing the tough competition. He said he was surprised to have gone that well. “It was a dream to make the team, let alone the finals,” he said. “I was able to prove myself wrong. At times I’ve had issues with mental preparation. “I’ve become more mature and now I can see outside the box a bit more.” While Gavos got to face some new tough opposition, he was beaten by someone he knows well, Paes Kemp. While Kemp represented Narau at the event, he trains alongside Gavos at Kimekai Martial Arts and with the Victorian team. “It was a shame we weren’t wearing the same colours,” he said. “There were emotional scenes when we got our medals. Our coach was so proud.” Gavos said they would take what they had learned at the championships and filter training to continue developing. He said karate is something that helps make him a better person. “The sport keeps me on my toes,” he said. “I push to get the best out of myself, not only in health and fitness but as a person, it challenges you every day to set the bar.” Gavos started training in Airport West and Tullamarine in Kassis Karate Academy, before making the move to the other side of the city. He now trains at Kimekai Martial Arts in Highett both morning and night, with school in between meaning a lot of travel from one side of the city to the other.

Sydenham-Hillside has added two West Indians to its squad for the next Victorian Turf Cricket Association division 1 season. After winning their third premiership in four seasons in March, the Storm has looked to strengthen their squad. The Storm will be in division 1 next season, having won the division 2 premiership. The first of those signings announced by the club on social media, is former West Indies under-19 representative Anthony Alleyne. He has played 30 first class games with a top score of 188. He is expected to play a big role on and off the field. “Anthony is a classy left handed top order batsman with significant experience at first class level playing for his native Barbados in the West Indies,” the club said on social media. “In addition to adding a huge dose of quality to our men’s 1st XI batting line up, Anthony will also bring coaching experience and an enthusiasm for helping players of all ability levels improve. “This will be of huge benefit to the club this season as he takes the role of women’s coach as well as assisting Geoff Pretty in the men’s program.” The club fielded two women’s sides last season, one in the Cricket Victoria Women’s Community Cricket competition and one in the North West Metropolitan Cricket Association. He will be joined at the Storm by Kadeem Alleyne. Despite the same last name, the two recruits aren’t related. Kadeem is another talented Barbadian with recent experience in the 2021 Caribbean Premier League T20 competition. He played three games in the 2021 edition of the tournament, taking three wickets. “At 21 years of age, Kadeem is a highly skilled and genuine all-rounder, with his pace bowling and hard hitting sure to prove a real asset this season,“ the club said on social media. Lakers place a high priority on accountability Caroline Springs knows things can quickly change in the Western Region Football League division 1 competition. The Lakers were sitting on top of the ladder after seven rounds, with just one loss for the year. The club’s second side, which plays in division 2, is sitting in third with their eyes on finals too. Lakers division 1 coach Dean Ellis said having a second side had really stepped things up. The club is the first to have two women’s sides in the WRFL competition. “We’re definitely happy, but there’s still a long way to go,” he said. “With two sides there’s now a bit of competition for spots. You have to perform or you play twos. “It makes everyone accountable.” Ellis said they formed a second side this season, after not having enough players for an under-18 team.
He said they wanted to make sure there was a side for everyone who wants to play. “We had about 13 to 14 girls, with a number not coming back after COVID,” he said of the under-18s. “We had five or six hang around and they’re now playing senior football. We’ve got a good frame for the future and we’ll have under-18s again next season.” Ellis said they had seen a number of a new players had come to the club which had made things easier as well. He said the return of Alex O’Shea, who had won their last three best and fairest awards, had been a big bonus. Some of the younger players who have come up from the under-18s had also impressed. Jacinta Kondis, Charlize Sindoni, Hayley and Hannah Herring are some of those that have really stepped up. The Lakers sit third in division 2. Ellis said it had been really good to see.
“Finals is the aim for both divisions,” he said. “It gets a bit harder when there’s things like injuries. “We haven’t had the numbers we were after every week, but that’s okay. “We’re had a few under-16s fill in the last couple of weeks as well.” Ellis said they weren’t getting ahead of themselves in division 1. He said there’s still a long time to go before the season is over. The side was set to face Werribee Centrals on Saturday, after deadline. “I don’t like to predict things,” he said. “We want to be in the top two by the end of the season and then take finals week by week. “You’re only a couple of injuries away from struggling. “We play each game on its merits, Every game is hard and we have to be on our game each week.” Tara Murray

Sports shorts FV The crucial clash between Sydenham Park and Banyule Bulls ended in a 1-1 draw in the FV state league 1 north-west competition. With both sides pushing for second spot, a lot was on the line. Neither team could take control and they shared the points. In the local derby, Keilor Park and Brimbank Stallions also had a 1-1 draw. Ladder leaders Caroline Springs George Cross’ match with Strathmore was washed out and will be played at a later date.

The Blues inaccuracy kept the Jets in the game and they were made to pay, with the Blues having to settle for an 8.15 (63)-9.9 (63) draw. Christos Kosmas kicked three goals for the Blues. The result sees the Blues slip from first to second. In division 1, Hillside upset Roxburgh by one point, while in division 2, Keilor Park, Burnside Heights and Taylors Lakes all got wins. Impressive half season By Tara Murray Calder United has exceeded all expectations in the first half of the National Premier League Women’s competition. Having promoted a number of younger players from their ranks, Calder, who has been a powerhouse in the competition, expected to drop a few matches and maybe slip down the ladder. But the side has shocked everyone, including the coaching staff, to sit atop the table after 11 rounds with eight wins. Calder coach Mark Torcaso said they were shocked at the development of this year’s squad. Seven players from either their under-19s or reserves teams joined the senior team this season. “It’s nice to look down [on the other teams], but it has taken a bit of time to get there,” he said. “There’s been a lot of hard work and we can not believe how well the young girls are adjusting to this level. “The senior players have made them feel right at home.”
Torcaso said the senior players had been really influential in getting the squad heading in the one direction having been through a number of highs together. He said they had been really accountable to doing what is best for the side. Torcaso said the coaches maybe didn’t realise how good the next generation of players were. “I think we underestimated them,” he said. “The last two seasons we lost so much with COVID, we didn’t know if they would be ready. “We underestimated how good they are.” With Western United to have an A-League women’s side later this year, several Calder players are set to get shot at the higher level. Torcaso said despite the connection between the two clubs, they were trying to keep it as separate as possible. “The players want to go out there and perform and excel,“ he said. “The main thing is keeping a separate focus at Calder. If it happens for them, that’s great but the main focus is on the now.” Despite the faster development of the Calder

playing group, Torcaso said nothing changes with what they want to achieve this season. Development remains the number one priority. “We’re still gelling and starting to build together as a team,” he said. “We just want to continue on what we’re doing each week and work hard. “Where does it take us? Could be a premiership, grand final or fourth. We have no expectations at all.” Calder was set to play Bayside United on Saturday, after deadline. As well as a strong NPL season, Calder is through to the final four of the Nike F.C Cup. Calder has won the competition the last four times. Calder will find out their opponent for the semi final this week. “The girls are focused on what they’re doing,” Torcaso said. “They’re determined to play as many big games of football as we can for their development. “The more games, the better for the progress. “Any trophies along the way is fantastic.”
Caroline Springs remains undefeated in the Western Region Football League division 1 competition after beating Deer Park on Saturday. The Lakers led at every break in the 15.17 (107)-9.13 (67) win. Tate Wood kicked three goals in a best on ground performance. It was a tough day for St Albans and Sunshine, who lost to Altona and Hoppers Crossing respectively. In division 2, Albion lost to Point Cook Centrals, while in division 3, Albanvale beat Braybrook and Sunshine Heights beat Laverton.
NPL St Albans Saints first night home game ended in a draw with the Bentleigh Greens in the National Premier League. The Saints hosted the Greens on Saturday, with the teams sharing the points, after neither team was able to score in the 0-0.
