Rice council proceeds with pedestrian railroad crossing grant application Leaves options open for later decision BY NATASHA BARBER STAFF WRITER The city of Rice is proceeding with a pedestrian crossing at its railroad tracks despite hammering down details of what that crossing may be. Rice City Council members were asked to con rm the city’s Transportation Alternatives grant proposal with Benton County community health specialist Jennifer Lezer at the Jan. 9 meeting. The Jan. 3 meeting had been rescheduled due to weather. In December, the council moved to seek grant funding for an up-down arm similar to those used for vehicles rather than maze fencing after they learned BNSF Railway would work with the city to include the optimal crossing choice when BNSF reconstructs the vehicle crossing in the next two years.
