As the 2022 Sauk Centre Ambassadors were preparing their farewell speeches and getting ready to hand off their crowns, Jorja Novak and Emily Bromenshenkel were already beginning to represent the community as the Sauk Centre Ambassador candidates for 2023. Leading up to the coronation, the two young ladies spent time with the outgoing ambassadors, Hailey Hokanson and Hayley Klockenga, learning the ropes and beginning to serve the community of Sauk Centre.

When the Stearns County Fair arrives, so do demolition derby evenings with their flying mud, noisy engines and colliding cars. It is the thrill of this experience that keeps Corey Bueckers from Melrose coming back year after year, wrecking, fixing and running cars in a wide range of classes. “You can go and hit somebody in a car and get out and shake their hand,” Bueckers said. “The adrenaline rush of the derby is by far the best, the thing that keeps me wanting to do it more.” Bueckers, 36, has been in demolition derbies since he was 16 years old. He is taking this year off, but otherwise, he has more than 20 years of experience and ofPHOTO BY BEN SONNEK ten races with his brother, Eric Bueckers. The Ranch is a home for former athletes who are suffering from traumatic brain injury or struggling with mental illness to find hope and healing amongst their peers on the Eagle’s Healing Nest campus where veterans have been receiving similar care for years.
