Fair marks 40 years Good Shepherd Lutheran College (GSLC) marked a major milestone on Saturday 8 August, with thousands of families packing the school grounds for Shepherd’s Fair 2026, a celebration doubling as the centrepiece of the College’s 40th Anniversary festivities. Running from midday to 6pm, the Fair brought together rides, stalls, food vans and entertainment with a dedicated Anniversary Hub in the Chapel Hall, where generations of GSLC families reconnected with the College’s history. Past Principals and College Pastors returned to join the celebrations, adding a special sense of occasion to the milestone weekend. Continued page 17

Works are on track By Steve Linnell Noosa Council says more than 80 per cent of its approved initiatives for the 2025-26 financial year have either been completed or are on track, with housing, infrastructure, environmental protection and community wellbeing among the key areas of progress. Mayor Cr Frank Wilkie said the annual Operational Plan provided a way for the community to track Council’s delivery of services and projects. “From major infrastructure projects and affordable housing to environmental conservation and disaster resilience, we’re delivering practical outcomes that support our community today while planning responsibly for the future,” he said. One of the major housing initiatives was the affordable housing development at 62-64 Lake Macdonald Drive, where site remediation was completed and Council secured $4.1 million through the Queensland Government’s Residential Activation Fund. The project is expected to provide 25 afford-
(Supplied) able homes for local families, young people and seniors on the Queensland Social Housing Register. Tourism planning was another major focus, with Council adopting a new 10-year Destination Management Plan to guide visitor management ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games and beyond. More than 2900 residents, businesses and visi-
tors contributed to the plan’s development. Council CEO Larry Sengstock said the Tourism Noosa Roadmap and new Tourism Noosa Funding and Performance Deed would provide a framework for the region’s tourism future. The environmental program also delivered a significant acquisition, with Council securing a 121-hectare property at Kin Kin through its Environment Levy Program. The property protects a wildlife corridor on the Cootharaba Range and habitat for endangered species. Council also commissioned the Noosaville Community Battery, designed to store excess rooftop solar power and strengthen the local energy network. Accessibility was another priority, with a contract awarded for a new Changing Places facility at Gympie Terrace to provide specialised amenities for people with high support needs and their carers. More than $258,000 was distributed through Community Grants, while almost $84,000 went to Environment and Climate Change
Response Grants. Council also introduced its Individual Sports Development Grant Program to assist local athletes and coaches competing at national and international levels. Community engagement continued through consultation on the Draft Noosa Botanic Gardens Master Plan and the Noosa Liveability Survey. Council said it also undertook more than 650 disaster preparedness engagement activities and distributed 350 emergency readiness packs across the shire. Work continued on the Doonella Lake Bridge upgrade, aimed at extending the life of the 58-year-old transport link between Tewantin and Noosaville. Cr Wilkie said Council remained focused on protecting Noosa’s character while improving liveability and delivering services expected by the community. “Achieving 80 initiatives completed or on track is a strong result and highlights the dedication of Council staff, Councillors and our community partners,” he said.
