Surfilm Festival rolling in The countdown is on for the 2026 Noosa International Surfilm Festival, with filmmakers, judges and special guests travelling from around Australia and overseas to Noosa for four days of inspiring surf and ocean storytelling from 13–16 August. This year’s festival features 21 films from 14 countries, including 12 Australian Premieres and two Queensland Premieres, complemented by live filmmaker Q&As, panel discussions and free community events celebrating surf culture. OzHarvest grows As cost of living pressures force more people to choose between paying their bills and buying food the demand has increased on OzHarvest which last week marked the delivery of its 65 millionth meal and opened an expanded Sunshine Coast hub. OzHarvest Queensland state manager Michaela Windsor said the charity provided food to 45 local charities across the Sunshine Coast to Gympie, redistributing more than 20,000kg
of quality surplus food each month to charities like the Urban Angels and The Salvos as well as schools, youth programs, community centres and churches. OzHarvest’s latest Frontline Report shows one 70 per cent of charities are reporting an increase in demand, two-thirds say they need more food to keep up and one in three of the people seeking food relief are doing so for the first time in their lives. Some of those seeking help are double in-
come families struggling to pay bills and put food on the table. OzHarvest last week moved from its Coolum base to a larger warehouse at Kunda Park from which they can deliver food faster and in greater volumes in their refrigerated trucks and accept quality food donations. “We see the challenges of community hardship and people going without every day and
we’re working hard to address the ongoing need and support our charity network on the frontline. There are still so many families in Queensland experiencing food insecurity, particularly in the Sunshine Coast and Gympie regions, and our new hub will unlock greater capacity to rescue more food, reach more charities and get help to more people, faster,” Michaela said.
