Homestead Senior Secondary College is in full rehearsal for its first school production Clue: High School Edition. Based on the iconic board game and cult-classic film, this fast-paced comedy follows six suspicious guests, a mysterious butler and one deadly dinner party where everyone is a suspect. Packed with outrageous characters, quick-fire comedy, unexpected twists and plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, audiences will be kept guessing until the very end. The production showcases the creativity, dedication and professionalism of Homestead’s young artists. Co-directors Cal Taylor and Elise Garro have worked closely with students to create an energetic and entertaining production that celebrates collaboration, confidence and creativity. “As Homestead Senior Secondary College’s inaugural school production, Clue: High School Edition is the beginning of an exciting new tradition in the performing arts. With mystery, mayhem and memorable characters, this hilarious whodunnit promises a fantastic night of entertainment for the whole community,” Mr Taylor said. The show will be performed on Friday 31 July at 7pm and Saturday 1 August at 3pm and 7pm in the college gym. Tickets on sale now.
Mayor exits office By Laura Michell Preet Singh has resigned as Wyndham mayor. Councillor Singh made the announcement in a video posted to social media on Tuesday morning. He has endured widespread criticism since 30 March when it was revealed he wrote a character reference for a paedophile in 2024, prior to being elected to council. Signing the letter as a JP, Cr Singh provided the character reference for Kashyap Patel, who faced the County Court in August 2024 on child sex offence charges.
Patel pleaded guilty to multiple offences and was sentenced to nine months’ jail September 2024. In the months that followed, the embattled councillor refused to relinquish the mayoral role despite weeks of pressure from residents and his council colleagues, with the remaining councillors writing to the local government minister to request his intervention to remove Cr Singh as mayor. Residents held several protests during which they demanded Cr Singh’s resignation as mayor, while the state government appointed municipal monitors to the council to help “restore
the Wyndham community’s confidence in their councillors”. On Tuesday, Cr Singh said he had made the decision to “hand over the mayoral chain” because he believed it was the right time. “It is my decision made on my own terms,” he said. “Not because the work is fi nished but because I believe it is the right time for another councillor to carry that work forward without distraction.” Cr Singh, who has been mayor since March, said he would continue to serve as a councillor.
