International geologist floats....
Meteorite exhibit Crystal World owner and international geologist Tom Kapitany is considering displaying pieces of the Cranbourne meteorite at his Devon Meadows attraction following renewed interest sparked by the ABC series Stuff the British Stole. Mr Kapitany appeared in an episode examining the history of the Cranbourne meteorite and the removal of its largest mass to London. He said he told the program’s producers that

Mr Kapitany obtained the fragments through an exchange with Museums Victoria and has spent decades studying meteorites, geology and natural history. His interest grew after moving to Devon Meadows in 1989 and learning about the Cranbourne meteorite field.
“Once I moved here, I got really keen and quite active,” he said. “I lived so close to the Cranbourne fall and I thought, ‘Wow, meteorites, Devon Meadows’.” Mr Kapitany believed the meteorite’s association with Bunurong people could strengthen calls for it to return to Australia. FULL STORY PAGE 3
