Murder charges By Jensy Callimootoo Two brothers have had their charges upgraded to murder over the death of a 63-year-old Clyde North man in Narre Warren South. The pair had their cases adjourned after appearing separately via video link at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 8 July.
Connor Harnett, 21, of Frankston, and Liam Harnett, 22, of Narre Warren South remain in custody, both accused of one count of murdering Andre Szep, who died in hospital on 18 June after allegedly being assaulted at Strathaird Reserve, Narre Warren South on 12 June. Up to eight charges including recklessly causing serious injury, intentionally causing injury,
assault-related offences, possessing a dangerous article and affray were formally withdrawn at the hearing. Police have alleged those involved were known to one another. During the hearing, the prosecution sought 12 weeks to serve the evidence, telling the court investigators were still gathering key information about the incident including post-mortem find-

ings and completing forensic examinations. Directions were made requiring police to complete the collection and disclosure of CCTV, body-worn camera footage, DNA material and other forensic evidence by the end of September. The matter will return to court on 11 November 2026 for a further filing hearing.
