Socceroos fever Casey residents rugged up at Bunjil Place on Sunday 14 June to watch the Socceroos begin their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign against Turkey in Vancouver. Fans celebrated Nestory Irankunda’s first-half opener before Connor Metcalfe sealed a 2-0 win late in the match. New vision for Hill The controversial Hampton Park Hill Development Plan will be reviewed and audited before the end of 2026. At the 16 June Casey Council Meeting, Casey councillors unanimously endorsed the municipality’s 2026-2029 Land Use Strategy Work Plan, which sets planning-policy priorities for the next three years. Hampton Park Hill includes the Hallam Road
landfill and has long been controversial among nearby residents. The current Development Plan was endorsed in July 2023 despite strong community opposition, with residents raising concerns about odour, truck movements, landfill buffers, property values and the loss of a long-held parkland vision. The strategic planning work for the Hampton Park Hill precinct has already been listed as one of the priorities, but Cr Lynette Pereira added an amendment to strengthen that commitment by requiring a formal project governance framework, involving council staff and councillor representatives, to oversee the review, define its scope, ensure transparency, and monitor progress.
The review will examine the Hampton Park Hill Development Plan, Planning Scheme Amendment C294, Section 173 agreements and planning permits within the precinct, and consider options to reset and establish a new vision for the area.
