Leading the way By Jensy Callimootoo Winning among five other nominees, Corina Dutlow took home the award for Casey’s 2026 Citizen of the Year. Her work with not-for-profit organisation, Australian-Filipino Community Services (AFCS) has spanned for more than a decade. Starting in an admin role in 2013 as she finished her degree to now holding the chief executive seat at the organisation. For more than 35 years, AFCS has worked as a registered charity and community service hub for the Filipino population living in Victoria. The group offers services that are rooted in culturally appropriate holistic support to enhance the social, physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing of the community. As Dutlow walked up the stage to claim her award, her husband and team members from AFCS ecstatically cheered her on — with nearly 100 volunteers and employees at home also rooting for her. As she enters her third year as CEO, the young mum and mentor for so many other young Australian- Filipinos, hopes to keep creating new pathways for the organisation. From building fresh opportunities and access to their cultural roots for Filipinos growing up in Australia, to instilling further support networks for the senior members of the community living in aged-care homes. Grounded in her own experiences and challenges as she continues to evolve with the organisation, Dutlow’s leadership is a breath of fresh air for many.
