Robberies rock SE Southern Metro Crime Squad detectives are investigating a string of armed robberies across Melbourne’s southeast, including a frightening axe-wielding raid on Marcos IGA in Narre Warren North.
Police believe the same group of masked offenders, travelling in a black Jeep, targeted six businesses between 12 and 13 September. In Narre Warren North, three males stormed the Oakview Boulevard supermarket on Saturday evening, stealing cigarettes and alcohol.

The following day, the store announced it would stop selling cigarettes in response, calling the decision “not easy” but necessary to protect staff and community. Other incidents across Berwick, Chelsea Heights, Carrum Downs and Scoresby involved machetes and axes.
In one case, a 16-year-old IGA staff member was left shaken after witnessing the ordeal, with the store’s manager warning of the “ripple effect” the crimes will have on workers, customers and business confidence. For the full story, turn to Page 6
