Robust House a safe haven A new Robust Home in Cranbourne will provide a safe and secure haven for residents with high complex needs. The house, which was officially opened by City of Casey Mayor Amanda Stapledon, has been purpose-built with a number of special features, including reinforced walls, individually decorated studio bedrooms for residents and a backyard complete with sensory inclusions like secured artificial grass, a nest swing and outdoor shower. Sparking change Residents are being asked to think twice before throwing that old mobile phone in the bin, ahead of the state government's ban on e-waste entering landfill. The ban, which comes into effect on 1 July, means that any item with a plug, battery or cord will no longer be able to be put in kerbside bins, and must instead be dropped at a designated e-waste drop off point. Drop-off points are dotted around the state.

The council collects batteries, mobile phones, DVD's, tapes, videos and CDs at its customer service centres in Cranbourne and at Bunjil Place. The City of Casey's manager, waste and landfill management, said the council supports the initiative to minimise the amount of e-waste going to landfill and reminded residents to remove batteries from e-waste before disposing of it. The manager said there were a number of drop-off locations available, including Outlook in Hampton Park, Future Recycling Transfer Station in Pakenham or Frankston Recycling and Recovery Centre.

Community News Council adopts 2019/20 Budget Have your say on the future services for young fathers.
Young Dads survey now open A survey aimed at young dads is now open to give Council a better idea of what services it can provide to further support young fathers. Help Council acknowledge the important role that young dads play, and tell us what matters most to you and what services and programs you would benefit from.
The City of Casey has adopted its 2019/20 Budget which funds Council’s largest ever Capital Works Program (CWP) and supports the delivery of 66 important services to the community. Following a four-week community consultation period where residents were invited to view and have their say on the draft budget, Council adopted the final budget at a Council meeting on Tuesday 18 June 2019, along with the revised Council Plan 2017-21 and Annual Action Plan 2019/20. Through financially responsible budgeting, Council has been able to continue its strong investment in the necessary projects and services for Casey’s large and rapidly growing community.

» A $151.5 million CWP to deliver more than 330 infrastructure projects across Casey, in both our new and growing communities as well as our established suburbs. » A $344.8 million operating budget that provides funding to deliver 66 core services to the community » A rates increase of 2.5% in line with the State Government rate cap. Based on the preliminary property valuations, which are waiting certification by the Victorian Valuer General, the rates will increase by an average of $21.34.

Robust home a ‘dream come true’ By Danielle Kutchel A new house in Cranbourne promises to provide dignity and security for residents with a disability. The Robust Home has been purpose-built for its residents and is the end result of years of planning by Purposed Housing Australia and the ONCALL Group. The home is packed with unique features to meet challenging behaviours from residents, including reinforced walls, solid doors set into steel frames, high ceilings, high set windows with external shutters, and steel-framed leather furniture for easy cleaning. Each client will have their own studio bedroom and ensuite, decorated to their tastes. The house includes a number of sensory and visual features too, including a stunning mural along the kitchen wall and an outdoor shower in the backyard. Anna Fleming, director of Purposed Housing, said it had long been her dream to provide this type of house for her clients. She and her husband have worked in the disability sector for more than 40 years, and from their experience knew what sort of space was
needed for residents with high complex needs. "We didn't want anything clinical; we wanted it to be very homey, very warm, very inviting, with lots of sensory and interactive features that would assist the men to be as independent as possible," she explained. "We wanted it to feel like a home that they would love coming home to and their families would be able to come and enjoy. What we're trying to do is encourage the families to feel part of the home; they can have a barbecue outside and have their family celebrations here." Robert Caulfield, managing director of Caulfield Krivanek Architecture which worked with Ms Fleming to design the house, said they had to negotiate some complex regulations to build the house. "It was like a maze of regulations and people but we worked through that over a period of around six months of planning. "We didn't want people going past saying, 'that's where the disabled people live'; we wanted it to look like any other house from the street." City of Casey Mayor Amanda Stapledon was
present when ground was broken on the house last year, and cut the ribbon at its official opening this month. She said she was pleased to see the way the project had come together. "The very fact that they're giving dignity and respect to people with a disability, and we're also bringing comfort to their parents and carers who want to know what happens to their child when they're no longer here. This is their forever home - how fantastic," she said. She added that the council is starting planning for similar builds into the future, including looking into how allowances can be made in building regulations to allow for better use of space for residents with a disability. Faizal Izzedeen, whose son Shiraz will be one of the new residents, said the house had lifted a weight of worry from his shoulders. "One of the most important worries for a parent of a child with disability is trying to get them set up for their future for the rest of their lives. In the case of Shiraz, finding him accommodation was not easy. "They've done a fantastic job here, it's a dream come true."

Casey City Council’s record budget of over half-a-billion dollars was approved at Tuesday night’s council meeting, with just a few administrative changes. None of the 12 submissions from the public and local groups were successful in altering the bottom line. Three of those submissions were put in by supporters of the Casey Little Athletics Club, which meets at Berwick’s Edwin Flack Reserve, seeking upgrades to the facilities there. Casey has allowed for a masterplan process for the reserve in the coming year, which will inform budget allocations over the next few years.
Land of plenty If you thought your rates were high, hold on to your hats. A handful of documents were approved with the budget papers, including a list of culture and recreation land attracting rates. Highest on the list of rates contributors were facilities in some of the high-growth areas: the Cranbourne Country Club, on Glasscocks Road, with a whopping $57,864 rates bill; Oakwood Riding School, on Smiths Lane at Clyde North, with a sizeable $40,000 bill and the Cranbourne Training Complex, on Ballarto Road, at $34,000.
Smart talking Cr Gary Rowe, fresh back from a Smart Cities visit to the US, was almost over exuberant about the possibilities for the council, residents and the business community in smart use of ‘big data’. So exuberant, his time to speak had to be extended a few times - and he still didn’t get to speak to all his notes. Cr Rowe empasised the human element of new technologies - that they should serve the communities’ interests - if they were to be useful. As Casey moves further along the Smart Cities path, this element must be front and centre, he indicated, in order to support the council’s aspiration of the being the most liveable city is Australia.
In the zone Passed without comment was an amendment to the planning scheme (C231) that would allow land at Manuka Road, Berwick, for residential subdivision. The four large blocks involved include the former Clover Cottage restaurant, with its renowned heritage gardens. Parts of three of the blocks, that lay outside the Urban Growth Boundary, are marked to be acquired for conservation purposes. Heritage overlays affecting Clover Cottage and the neighboring ‘Minard’ property are also to be updated. Hampton Park Secondary College students shared their stories as part of Bukjeh, an exhibition at Bunjil Place. The College has a high percentage of students from an immigrant or refugee background. English teacher Geoff Shinkfield said the school encouraged students to take part and
share their stories. "We invited anyone who came from another country to be involved in it. There are a lot of good poets and a lot of good artists among these kids and I thought they did a great job."

Imagine you've been told you need to leave your home and everything you know behind to start a new life in another country on the other side of the world. You've got just a few minutes to pack your most treasured possessions. But what would you take, and what would you be forced to leave behind? A live art exhibition at Bunjil Place sought to answer that question by letting visitors into the hearts and minds of people who have been displaced. The exhibition was named Bukjeh, the Arabic word for the bundles of belongings that refugees carry with them, and ran from June 14 to 15. It featured stories of migration, told by those who have been displaced through spoken word, music, songs, visual arts and language. Among those sharing their stories were students from Hampton Park Secondary College who provided poetry, drama and artwork. The organisers of Bukjeh ran poetry and art workshops at the school with interested students. The poems were recorded to be played during the exhibition. Some of the poems were in the students' first language, like Tagalog or Dari. A group of Islander students from the school also performed a song of their own writing.

Hope and discovery Whilst braving the cold and wet weather this past week, there were many exciting events that provided a warm, dry and friendly setting. Here are just a few of them: MARINE DISCOVERY CENTRE IN TOORADIN I attended an exhibition of designs and ideas for a proposed Marine Discovery/Research Centre in Tooradin. This was put together by Bachelor of Architecture students at Monash University, with the support of Professor Nigel Bertram, Dr Pat Machirter, Lindsay Mitchell and Marine Discovery Centre driver and president of the Tooradin Business Association, Marlene Hargreaves. What exciting prospects there are for the future of our coastal villages, for education of our children, youth and adults and for tourism in the south of Casey. BUSINESS FOCUS ON TOURISM Each year, the mayor hosts a Business Leader’s Dinner and this year it was my privilege to host it. We welcomed 90 business and community leaders, neighbouring mayors and councillors and enjoyed an information-packed evening, firstly affirming our support for our business in Casey. The theme for the night was tourism and we introduced the Casey Cardinia Tourism board and Chair Cathy Main spoke about the benefits to business in the Caesy Cardinia region if we invest in tourism and the visitor economy. We were joined by Federal MP Jason Wood who spoke about his Red Rattler project, neighbouring mayors from Cardinia and Baw Baw and Cardinia Shire councillors. Cr Sam Aziz spoke about Casey’s Smart Cities initiatives and Cr Damien Rosario expertly compered the night and our expert Q&A panel members. A very special feature was Sharon Start and Michael Prizeman’s performance singing a song that Sharon wrote for the night “Casey is Calling”. HOPE AUSTRALIA SOCCER ACADEMY It was my honour to welcome two of the three Hope Australia Soccer Academy coaches, Lamartine Fernandes Da Silva and family (wife Katia and children Gustavo and Giovana) and Joaquim Juvencio Dos Santos Silva and family (wife Livia and child Zoe), having welcomed the third coach Carlos Luciano Da Silva back in April. These three coaches are Soccer Royalty and it is a great honour that they have travelled all the way from Brazil to settle here in Australia and to be a part of a vision driven by Pastor Larry Sebastian to help engage, support and mentor disengaged youth. Thanks to a $1m commitment by La Trobe MP Jason Wood, Larry’s vision is now a reality and we are looking at many opportunities in which to utilise these wonderful people and HASA. ENGAGEMENT CONGRATULATIONS Mitchell Stewart might be better recognised at a dawn on Anzac Day or at the Remembrance Day Service in his smart Salvation Army Uniform playing the bugle. Urgent call for land plans By Andrew Cantwell Casey City’s ‘astronomical’ rate of growth means the municipality could run out of available residential and commercial land sometime around 2026, and not 2040 as previously expected. Casey Council recently released preferred planning guidelines for four remaining undeveloped precincts in the city’s south and east - and urged the State’s Planning Authority to commence work on necessary Precinct Structure Plans.
The four precincts - totalling about 1800 hectares - are at Devon Meadows, Casey Fields South employment, Clyde South and “Croskell” at Cranbourne East. Their future development is expected to bring in an extra 37,000 people by 2041. Cr Geoff Ablett, speaking on the urgency for action, said State planning for the new precincts could take four to six years. If necessary planning wasn’t started soon, land will “run out” and the planning for new releases wouldn’t be finished in time, he said.
The fear was that people looking for land at that time would move on and choose another municipality to live or invest in. Cr Sam Aziz was quick to support his colleague, saying Casey’s current growth rate was well beyond previous published figures of 120 people per week. The city’s growth rate, he said, was “astronomical” - at 160 to 170 people per week. “Growth shows no sign of abating for at least a decade,” Cr Aziz said. Cr Aziz was also keen to see people of faith
taken into account in the city’s ‘vision’ for the new precincts, asking that suitable locations for places of worship be identified early in planning activities. The importance - or rather the lack - of a belief system or a faith was indicated by two appalling figures, he indicated - the rate of men’s suicide, and the “epidemic” of violent and fatal attacks on women. The need to cater for places of worship, where people could find “someone to talk to” was more needed than ever, he indicated.
Community rallies for Relay By Danielle Kutchel Cranbourne-Narre Relay for Life is raring to go after holding its launch event in late May. On Wednesday 29 May, Grill'd Casey Central hosted the local Relay for Life launch as attendees fuelled up with sliders, drinks and chips. A portion of their purchases went directly to Relay for Life, which supports the work of Cancer Council Victoria. The night also included a raffle and a visit from Sid the Seagull, the early mascot of the Slip, Slop, Slap campaign. Around $800 raised by approximately 70 guests. Manager of Grill'd Casey Central, Abhishek Shetty, said the restaurant was pleased to support local community groups. "What I always say to all our groups that we work with is, 'we do this because locals matter'," he said. In a speech on the night, CranbourneNarre Relay for Life committee member Lorraine Goodwin said they were hoping to reach
30 teams and 500 participants over the event weekend later in the year. "If you do decide to become involved in Relay it's up to you how much involvement you choose. You can donate when your friends ask, you can volunteer to support them at a bbq, cake stall or trivia night, you can come to Relay for an hour or two on event weekend. You can join a team to support your family, friends and work colleagues by walking at the relay, or you can do it all. "One thing unites every single person with a relay top. We all want to do whatever we are able to fight and win against cancer, and that's what gets us out of bed each day," she said. The Cranbourne-Narre Relay for Life is currently preparing for the Cranbourne and Narre Warren event, to be held on November 16 and 17. Registrations are open on the Relay for Life website and an early bird discount currently applies. Two-lot strife A Cranbourne property owner will not be granted an exemption from a ‘public open space’ contribution on his two-lot subdivision after Casey City Council contended the site could be further subdivided in the future. An exemption could be granted by the council on a two-lot subdivision only if a further carve-up is ‘unlikely’. A true gentleman is remembered Cranbourne Rotary Club has paid tribute to "one of nature's gentlemen" who passed away earlier this month. Ern Marriott passed away on Tuesday the 4th of June. He was a member of the Cranbourne Rotary Club and was well liked and heavily involved as a member. Mr Marriott served in many committees for the Rotary Club: he was a charter member of the Club and was president from 1978 to 79. He was an inaugural member of the Cranbourne Scouts, being a leader from 1955 - 1967. In 1964 he was asked to stand for the thenShire of Cranbourne Council and served two terms. During his tenure he was elected Shire President, and in 1973 he was elected in to Council again and served for another 12 years. Mr Marriott served as president again in 1976 77, and also had the honour of laying the foundation stone for the newly-built Cranbourne Shire Office (now a medical centre). A fellow Council member remembers Mr Marriott and his wife Val bringing their newly born daughter Mary to many council events in her carrier basket. In 1978 he became the Rotary president and the Club awarded Mr Marriott and his wife Val a Paul Harris Fellow - he for his involvement with the community and Val for her involvement with the community and Red Cross. Mr Marriott came from a family of market gardeners and Andrew Pinxt, a fellow member of the Rotary Club, remembers Mr Marriott describing how had to load the flat horse drawn lorries and bring them to the Melbourne market. Ern Marriott, who passed away earlier this month, is being remembered for his contributions to the Cranbourne community. Pictured here with wife Val and daughter Mary. on the corner of Thompson Rd and South Gipsland Highway and entertained many families on Guy Fawkes Night, organizing a big bonfire accompanied by fireworks. The Rotary Club supported many pensioners with fire wood collected from their farm. "Ern and Val were quiet achievers assisting many in need, and made you feel proud to know them both," Mr Pinxt said.
When Mr Marriott retired from Rotary, the Club presented him with a Sapphire Pin and made him an honorary member. Mr Marriott's wife passed away on Christmas Eve 2005 and he retired, taking up residence at Blue Hills Cranbourne and finally at Villa Maria in Berwick. "To know Ern was to love him," Mr Pinxt said, "A true gentleman laid to rest."
St Peters' College Year 11 VCAL students have conducted a project week to benefit local community organisations and primary schools. Year 11 students from both the Cranbourne and Clyde North campuses conducted the week as part of their VCAL program. The students have been planning a range of projects over the term, including constructing wooden rocking horses with volunteers at the Junction Village Men's Shed, constructing a sensory garden and chook shed at St. Agatha's Primary School and volunteering at Cranbourne-based charity BackPacks4VICKids. "The students have really enjoyed working with a different range of groups in our community," VCAL coordinator at the Cranbourne campus, Chris O'Hara said. "It gives our students a real sense of satisfaction to know that from their planning and hard work, other people will benefit from the sensory garden, the wooden rocking horses or donating much needed goods. "We have developed some strong relationships with these community organisations and we look forward to this continuing in the future," he said.

Helping take a bite out of bowel cancer June marks bowel cancer month, an initiative of Bowel Cancer Australia that is proudly supported by St John of God Berwick Hospital each year. Through its annual Red Apple Day June 19, Bowel Cancer Australia encourages Australians to raise awareness for bowel cancer by purchasing a Bowel Cancer Awareness Ribbon as well as participate in apple-themed fundraising activities. Indigenous singer/songwriter Kutcha Edwards. To commemorate this important cultural event, Indigenous singer-songwriter Kutcha Edwards will be performing alongside other Indigenous artists such as Djirri Djirri Dance Group and Kee’ahn at the Cranbourne gardens. Kutcha started performing in 1991 with a Koori community rock band. In 2002, he became a solo artist when he released his first CD, Cooinda. The album covers his experience of being removed from his family, songs dedicated to his parents, racism and alcoholism. Through his music, Kutcha shares stories about himself, his family and those of Aboriginal people in the Australia of today. His songs are about his life experiences and his interactions with the environment in which he lives. Honouring a champ By Nick Creely It looms as a pivotal game in the context of the season when Woori Yallock ventures down to Holm Park to take on Beaconsfield for the first time on Saturday, and the two clubs will honour the impact of the great Russell Rowe in what is sure to be a special day on the footballing calendar. The Eagles and Tigers will battle it out on the field for the inaugural Russell Rowe Shield as part of the annual Past Players and Officials Luncheon at Holm Park, with a huge crowd expected to descend and take in the football and netball action. Russell was a major part of the 1971, 1973 and 1974 Woori Yallock premierships, as well as being named in their Team of the Century, and played 11 VFL/AFL games for Melbourne in 1980, famously kicking four goals and having 25 disposals on debut in a 22-point win. He went on to 15 goals in his career for the Demons, finishing up in Round 16 of that season against Geelong. Rowe was also a former Caulfield champion prior to being picked up by the Dees, and also a handy cricketer - representing the Victorian Country cricket XI against the fearsome West Indies in 1979. Upon embarking on a coaching career post his playing days, Russell led Beaconsfield to a drought-breaking 1999 senior premiership it’s first since joining the West Gippsland Football League in 1993 - with the club recently celebrating its 20-year reunion of a famous flag. Beaconsfield president Troy Robinson said there is genuine excitement about what he believes will be a terrific day of community sport to recognise the contribution of a legendary figure for both clubs. “It’s what local and community football is all about - it’s great to put them on a pedestal, because it’s these blokes that create our history,” he said. “To have the opportunity - particularly for Russ, also Beacy and Woori Yallock - to play and have some sort of recognition between us, builds a new tradition. “The amalgamation of the two competitions creates new vibes and energy, and this is what it’s all about.”

But picking a winner is no easy task, with the Tigers sitting in third spot with a 5-2 record next to its name, while the home side are beginning to click into gear with a 4-3 record and boasting the stingiest defence out of the nine clubs so far this season. On what is already set to be an actionpacked, emotion-filled day of local sport, Robinson confirmed that the club will also hold a minutes silence and wear black armbands for one of their greatest supporters - Frank Deegan - who recently passed away. Frank owned and operated the Central Hotel in Beaconsfield, the Cardinia Park Hotel in Beaconsfield and the Royal Hotel in Kooweerup, and was admired by those in the local community.
“With Beaconsfield and the Central Hotel being our grassroots, and essentially where we were created, we will honour Frank with a minutes silence prior to the game and wear black armbands, just to show our appreciation for his efforts in the community,” he said. “It’s part of our DNA, it’s where our club was created in 1890, and we have to acknowledge that.” The club will also have two guest speakers on the day, with former Hawthorn defender and Beaconsfield-listed player Brendan Whitecross - as well as former Woori Yallock and Collingwood champion Damian Monkhorst -set to entertain the guests at the luncheon prior to the senior football action. The match was set up with a dominant first half display from the home side, surging out to a 2-1 lead before adding another goal in the
second half. Doveton SC, meanwhile, suffered a shock loss to Beaumaris SC, 3-2, but still occupy top spot on the table. The Doves did their best to try and wrestle back momentum against the Dolphins, but ultimately couldn't overcome a slow start despite surging hard late, even adding a goal in the 89th minute. STATE LEAGUE 5 - SOUTH Bunyip District put in a brave effort to draw
level with Hampton Park at home on Saturday afternoon, 1-1. The Strikers battled admirably after an early strike by the visitors, and slowly worked their way back in the context before finding the much-needed goal. The Eagles led from start to finish, but set the game up with a three goal to one secondterm, with Lana Fullwood in dominant touch with three goals in a best afield performance. The Melbourne Demons have had a mid-season shake-up in light of their 3-9 start to the 2019 AFL season and the Casey Demons will feel the ripple effects. In a stunning move, Casey coach Jade Rawlings has been named as Melbourne's new forward line coach in a full-time position and has stepped aside from his role at Casey effective immediately. Rawlings, who led the Demons to the 2018 VFL grand final, was in his second year at the helm and had instilled a tough, defensiveminded game style at Casey. Sam Radford, who was an assistant coach to Rawlings at Casey, has taken over the reins as VFL coach. Other major changes to Melbourne's football department include Max Rooke moving from forward line coach to development coach, while Brendan McCartney has been moved from defensive coach to a role mentoring the AFL and VFL assistant coaches. As published on Melbourne's official website (melbournefc.com.au), general manager of football operations at Melbourne, Josh Mahoney highlighted why the changes were being made mid-season. "Over the last couple of weeks, the club has taken the opportunity to seek feedback from players, coaches and football staff to identify the clear opportunities for us to improve for the back-half of the season," he said. Speaking of Radford, Mahoney said he was the standout candidate to take over from Rawlings at Casey.
Round 12 of the Big V basketball season was an indifferent one for the Casey Cavaliers. The Championship men had a busy weekend and started it off with a home win over Keilor on Saturday night. It was a tight first half, but the Cavs out-scored the Thunder 2819 in the third term to take control of the game and eventually run out 89-78 winners. Matt Donlan (25 points) caught fire from deep to drain six triples, while Raheem Lemons (23 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists) and Brandon Polk (20 points, 13 rebounds and 3 assists) did plenty of damage too. Backing up the following afternoon, the Cavs produced a disappointing effort in Geelong against cellar-dwellers, Corio Bay. The Youth League 1 men suffered a heartbreaking loss on the road against Camberwell. In a back and forth game, the Cavs fought tooth and nail for the win, but ultimately fell agonisingly short, 77-76. Brendon Head (29 points and 10 rebounds) was sublime and almost got the Cavs over the line, while Jordan Gooiker (15 points and 10 rebounds) also battled hard all afternoon. In what is a very tight competition, Casey sits fifth with a 10-6 record. The juggernaut that is the Casey Youth League 1 women's team continues to roll on. Taking on third-placed Camberwell on the road shaped as a major test for the Cavs, but they passed with flying colours. While Casey struggled at times on offence, its defensive tenacity made sure the side stayed in the contest and eventually flourished to beat the Dragons by 15 points, 56-41. Lauren Tuplin (22 points and 7 steals) was the lone Cav to get going on offence, but it mattered little as Casey held Camberwell to just 10 per cent shooting from deep. The Cavs (12-2) are riding a nine-game winning streak and sit on top of the ladder. Burras send a message By Hayley Wildes MORNINGTON PENINSULA DIViSION 2 - ROUND 10 Since winning its first game of the season back in March, Pearcedale's season has gone from bad to worse and on Saturday the Panthers lost their 10th game in row, this time succumbing to Hastings at home. The Panthers were in the contest at quarter-time thanks largely to the Blues' inaccurate kicking, but Hastings' sheer dominance proved too much as the side ran out 16.23 (119) to 11.7 (73) winners. Laughlin Cowell (four goals) and Kaolan Thornton were the shining lights for the Panthers in an otherwise disappointing day. Much like Pearcedale, Devon Meadows' season continues to spiral out of control. Having started the season off strongly to own a 2-1 record, the Panthers have since lost eight games in a row and were taught a lesson by Langwarrin on Saturday. Devon Meadows was never in the contest as Langwarrin - led by Josh Biggs (four goals) and Tim McGenniss - ruthlessly disposed of the Panthers by 103 points, 19.14 (128) to 3.7 (25). Despite the loss, Riley Thorpe and Lachlan Moss battled hard all day for the Panthers. SOUTHERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE DIVISION 2 - ROUND 9 The top-of-the-table clash between Springvale Districts and Keysborough returned an incredible result. The crowd in attendance was hoping for a classic between two teams that had only suffered one loss each heading into the game, but Keysborough had other ideas. The Burras went into Springvale Reserve and completely embarrassed the Dees with composure, class and a dominance across the board that would usually be reserved for a match between an undefeated team and a winless side.

The Burras' forwards were just too strong, led by Tim Werner (four goals) and Matt Carnelley (three goals), and the midfield dominance was easy to see as Riet Pal (three goals) and Ryan Goodes ran riot in dynamic performances. As Springvale Districts began to lose hope of a win, undisciplined play snuck into its game - highlighted by George Angelopoulos giving away a 100-metre penalty that resulted in a second quarter Ryan Goodes goal. The half-time score line was a whopping 12.6 (78) to 0.3 (3) and the Burras weren't done yet. Springvale Districts did lift its work rate in the third quarter and put on three goals, but the fourth quarter produced more Keysborough magic as the Burras eventually ran out 106-point winners, 21.12 (138) to 4.8 (32). Skye, holding the Bombers to just one goal in the first half and running way with an 80-point win, 20.11 (131) to 7.9 (51). Adam Read (eight goals) was absolutely unstoppable up forward for the Eagles, while the work of Stuart Johnson and Nicholas Battle through the midfield was just as important in completely overwhelming Skye. DIVISION 3 - ROUND 9 A seven-goal to one second quarter set up Hampton Park's comprehensive win over Ashwood. The Redbacks were in complete control all day as the likes of Shannon Henwood and Ashley Scott powered Hallam to a 14.9 (93) to 4.10 (34) win. The win was yet another masterclass from Hampton Park, which remains undefeated and two wins clear on top of the ladder. Endeavour Hills kept Black Rock scoreless in the first half of their clash and went on to record a 71-point win, 13.11 (89) to 2.6 (18). Daniel Strom (two goals) and Sam McLean did as they pleased all day as the Falcons further strengthened their stranglehold on second position.
DIVISION 4 - ROUND 9 After five losses in a row, Hallam returned to the winners' list with a resounding win over Lyndale. The Hawks jumped out of the gates with a five-goal to two opening term and with Ben Coutet, Logan Mills and Jack Sharlassian (four goals) playing dynamic games, Hallam went onto to win by 49 points, 13.12 (90) to 6.5 (41). For Lyndale, Brad Edwards and Shane Thomas (two goals) were among the best. Lyndhurst and Moorabbin were neck and neck for the first three quarters of their game, but the Lightning roared home in the final term to record a strong win. With Lyndhurst leading by just five points at the final break, it was anyone's game entering the final stanza, but the Lightning quickly made the game theirs with an impressive fourth quarter. With it all on the line, Lyndhurst kicked four goals to two to come away with a 13.14 (92) to 11.7 (73) win. Cory Willshire, Zach Woolcock and David Ford (four goals) played vital roles for the Lightning. WEST GIPPSLAND ROUND 10 Tooradin jumped out of the gates against Garfield at home to hold a five-goal lead at the main break, but in what was a thrilling second half of action, the Stars came roaring home. With Brad Lenders and Waide Symes leading the way, the Seagulls looked in control, but they failed to make the most of their chances in front of goal and the Stars worked their way back into the contest as Joseph Verleg and Ned Marsh lifted their team. After a final frantic few minutes, when the final siren sounded the Seagulls hadn't done enough to get the win, but held on for a draw, 8.15 (63) to 9.9 (63).
