He strives to make improvements to the golf course on a daily basis and really enjoys providing great conditions on the course for the members. Jarod has proven himself to be a vital asset to the agronomy team and is Brooks’ righthand man. In addition, Jarrod’s eye for detail and passion are evident in his work and greatly appreciated. Congratulations Jarod, we are thankful for you!

Dear Members,

As the school year winds down, excitement builds at our club! We're gearing up for another vibrant pool season, with preparations well underway to ensure everything is perfect for our opening on Friday, May 24th.

Keith and his team are diligently working on getting our facilities ready for upcoming inspections, while Chef Dicey, David, and Heidi are busy recruiting and training our seasonal food and beverage staff.

I’m also pleased to announce the return of Meg and Coach Ashley McNairy, who will once again bring their expertise to our pool management and swim team activities. Their leadership has been instrumental each season, and we look forward to another fantastic summer under their guidance and leadership.

I am happy to share that Bernard, Robinson & Company's auditing firm, has completed a thorough review of our 2023 financials. The report is now available on our website, and I encourage you to review it by clicking here.

Furthermore, we are performing ahead of budget at the end of the first Quarter 2024 The Q1 2024 financial results are also available for your perusal by clicking here

It is my distinct pleasure to congratulate Jarod Carter, who has been named our May Employee of the Month for the second year running. Since joining us as Assistant Golf Course Superintendent in January 2022, Jarod has proven himself a vital asset to Brooks Turner and our agronomy team. His dedication, keen eye for detail, and passion for his work are evident and greatly appreciated. When you see Jarod around the club or on the course, please extend your congratulations.

President’s Note

To my Fellow Members of Starmount,

May is one of my favorite months. In just a few weeks, our club will be going full blast. The pool will be open, the golf course lush and green, and with the return of daily outdoor dining, there is much to look forward to at our club.

I am pleased to report that our membership totals increased last month, and we have a robust pipeline of potential members This growth speaks volumes about the positive direction in which Starmount is heading. To further this momentum, I encourage you to review the enticing incentives for new applicants highlighted on page four of this edition of the Focus. This is an excellent opportunity for friends, neighbors, and co-workers to become part of our thriving community. For more details or to arrange a club tour, Jaime Duncan is readily available to assist.

Your Board of Directors remains committed to enhancing your club experience while ensuring sound financial management. Under the stewardship of our professional staff and members of the Finance Committee, through the first quarter of the year, we are on target to meet year-end budgetary goals.

Lastly, progress is being made on our capital upgrade projects:

Engineering plans have begun for the outdoor Pickle Ball courts.

Site work for the building that will house new golf simulators is set to start on May 13.

The contract for golf course renovations has been signed. The first phase, replacement of the irrigation system, is planned to begin in December

GOLF

Be a Better putter

Follow Through and Hold

One of the most common mistakes with golfers of all levels is moving while they putt and directly after they putt the ball. Your putting movement should come from your shoulders, with other parts of your body mostly still. After putting the ball, follow through with your putt and hold your position at the end. If the face of your putter is pointing towards the target, you know you are good. If not, revisit your aim and putting stroke.

If you don't practice frequently, you will not improve. Create a routine before every putt that will help put you in a calm and confident mindset. Find a position or a set up that gives you confidence and help you relax more. Be Consistent

Vary Your Practice Putts

While repetition is key during practice, make sure you practice more than just straight line, 20-foot putts. This type of practice is good but will not prepare you for putts you may encounter in a real tournament. Try putting from various distances. Explore challenging areas on your putting green to putt from so that you can be ready for any situation.

Close Your Eyes

The best putters have a good sense of the terrain and distance control around them. To achieve this for yourself, close your eyes to get a sense of what your putter feels like when it makes contact with the ball Start with a putt close to the hole to get the feel then keep at it until you can make putts from various distances with your eyes shut This will help you internalize how hard you need to hit the ball for different distances.

Don't Forget to Have Fun

Oftentimes when people struggle with their golf game, they become frustrated. Our final tip is to remember to have fun. If you practice consistently, you will get better. Don't let a bad day or bad tournament make you forget your love for the game. Be sure to mix up practices by bringing friends and playing games like 'HORSE' with them.

Junior Tennis Summer Camp

Session One – June 17th – June 20th

Session Two – June 24th – June 27th

Camp runs from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm and is recommended for ages 9-13. Campers will play tennis in the morning, and swim at the pool in the afternoon. Lunch will be provided daily.

Full session $199

Drop-in $70

Siblings will receive a 10% discount when participating in the same week.
