NEW MEMBER REFERRAL PROGRAM

3

A Note From Ray

Dear Members,

Beginning on March 9th, we will reintroduce Saturday evening dining in Bistro 59 and eliminate Tuesday night dinner service. (No dinner service on Tuesday, March 5.) This action is being taken in response to the many comments we received in the 2023 member satisfaction survey. The management team is working with their respective committees to finalize action plans for all departments where opportunities for improvement were presented.

One more reminder that our annual member meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 20th, at 6:00 pm. Please RSVP on the website, and we look forward to seeing you at this gathering.

Registration will begin for the biometric entry system at the fitness center on Monday March 11th. Please stop by the fitness center to register for access to the building Monday-Friday 6:00 am- 11:00 am. Please contact Kate by emailing her at sfcc@starmountforest.com if those hours are not convenient for you, and she will make an appointment for a more convenient time.

Important note about how this system will function:

·Once the registration period has ended, we will begin locking the main entrance to the Fitness Center 24 hours/day 7 days/week All members must be registered to gain access to the building

·Only Members who wish to use the fitness center outside of normal operating hours will be required to sign a hold harmless agreement, and they must use the facial recognition function for entry.

·We will provide a key fob option; however, members with key fobs will not have access outside of normal hours of operation and are responsible for the replacement cost should they lose their key fob ($10 each).

Last, but not least, I am pleased to announce Hunter Camp as our March Employee of the Month. Hunter has served the club for the past three years as an outside cart staff attendant and transitioned to the golf shop assistant in 2022. He has a great work ethic and a positive can-do attitude and is always willing to go above and beyond. He has also brought a lot of new ideas for improving our golf services over his tenure. Please help me in congratulating Hunter the next time you see him at the club.

Thank you for your continued support of your club, and I look forward to seeing you around the Club.

Warm regards,

4

President’s Note

To my Fellow Members of Starmount,

As March unfolds, so does the promise of warmer days. Blooming azaleas and dogwoods will decorate our campus, and it presents the perfect opportunity to enjoy many activities at our club

I encourage you to check out the club calendar by clicking here.

You’ll find all sorts of tennis and pickleball group events. There are great social and dining opportunities lined up that are sure to suit a wide variety of tastes. The golf season kicks off with the Starmount Forest Ladies Golf Association Opening Party and the Opening Breakfast Tournament. Help serve our community by donating blood when the Big Red Bus comes on March 15th. End the month by having breakfast with the Easter Bunny, and then enjoy Easter Sunday Brunch on the 31st- one of the year’s most popular dining experiences.

While you are on Starmount’s website, go to the My Profile (click here) page and, if you haven’t already done so, upload a photo (JPEG or PNG) of yourself and your family. It’ll help us all get to become familiar with more SFCC members.

During its February meeting, our Board of Directors approved a budget for 2024 that will maintain the current operating dues and fees throughout the year I’d like to thank the following Staff and Board Members for their efforts in crafting the detailed plan: Chief Financial Officer Tonia Vaughn; Treasurer Scott Fowler; Finance Committee Chairman Scott Henegar; all the members of the Finance Committee; and, of course, GM/COO, Ray Armini.

The Board of Directors also approved the exploration of establishing a Starmount Charitable Fund. The fund could be used to support local charities, especially ones in which our members are actively involved. Send me a message at GregBrownNC@gmail.com if you’d like to be part of a group that can make recommendations on how such a fund could be managed and how donations could be raised, overseen, and disbursed.

Golf members, this is the final month to receive complimentary golf lessons, free guest passes or cart fees, and dining credits for paying the Golf Course Renovation Assessment in advance. Join more than 1/3 of the members who have already done so. Contact Tonia Vaughn for more details.

Let’s Spring into March!

GOLF

Get Ready for the Season

Plan Your Practices

Come by the golf Professional shop and schedule a lesson with one of the Pro’s and get a better understanding of what you need to work on and what drills you can use to help keep you sharp through the golfing season

Warm Up Your Putting Stroke

Every day, spend just 10 minutes practicing your putting stroke without a golf ball Only your putter is needed, and you’ll set up in your living room just swinging it back and forth making a putting stroke motion. Add in a few alignments sticks or books to create a straight path to keep the putter on line. This will help you hit putts straight and work on keeping the face square at impact.

Warm Up Your Chipping Stroke

The best way to get your short game going after the off-season is to hit some simple chip shots at a towel 5 feet away. Practice your chipping stroke by trying to land the ball on the towel. This builds distance control but also works on ball striking as you must keep the chip shot square to hit the ball straight online at the towel target. You’ll be able to tell when you pulled or pushed chip shots and didn’t keep it straight.

Warm Up the Golf Swing

If you cannot get to the driving range to hit some balls find some open space in your home or outside in the yard/garage and make 50% swings to warm up and get the muscles in your back and torso loosening up again after a long winter lay-off. Then move towards 75% swings and then full swings. Aim to complete 100 golf swings a day to build up your muscles and flexibility/range of motion again

Golf Stretching and Flexibility Training

The early season is a good time to get back in the gym if you haven’t already during the winter offseason. Instead of doing normal weightlifting, start off with golf-specific stretching routines to increase flexibility over the next few weeks. Progress from 10-15 of stretching to then using light weights and resistance training to work the golf muscles you’ll need in the swing to power it. Here are a few things you should consider doing to get your body golf-ready.

Great Core/Abs Exercises

Stretching Exercises for Flexibility

Strength Building Exercises

Speed drills using the Kiser machine in our fitness center

Riders get to shamrock and roll to a themed playlist using Irish bands, artists, or Green-inspired songs to match their outfits! And that's not all; there'll be cards with the theme, so come ready to ride and guess the music themes. Book your bike on the Club Calendar.
