Ross has become an integral part of the golf team. He is a hard worker who makes it a priority to connect with our members and ensure that member needs always come first. In the Fall of 2021, Ross took over the junior golf program, and his passion and dedication have helped significantly grow the junior golf program at Starmount Forest Country Club. Ross has taken over a bigger role as the First Assistant Golf Professional this year. Ross runs the Captain's Cup and Couples Golf in his new role. In addition, he is responsible for setting up all golf tournaments. Ross is a true team player. We can always count on him and are thankful to have him on the Starmount team.

President’s Note

Dear Starmount Family,

What has been your favorite summer activity at Starmount? Doing a front flip or cherry bomb off the diving board? Shooting your best round of golf ever? A group aqua fitness class at the Pool? Tasting an appetizer or entree in the Bistro that made you want to get that recipe?

Mine was playing in the ProAm Tennis Tournament last weekend. While my team finished in the middle of the pack, I got to play a set with visiting pro Jakob Gustafsson. WOW, that was fun! I played some of my best tennis (it's easy to play at the net when Jakob's serves land in the corners at 100+mph!), and the event lifted my game and love of tennis. Thank you, Johan, Glynn, and Liam, for putting on a great ProAm. See y'all there next year!

One event that I'd like to recommend to everyone is the 'Bright White End of Summer Adult Party' on Saturday, August 19. You know the food will be good (check the website to see the yummy dishes Chef Brian and his team will be serving), live music, and axe throwing!?! Since everyone will be dressed in white, you will need to wear your shades!

Did I ever tell you that Starmount kids are AMAZING? Here is another story about one of Starmount's own Kayla Walsh (daughter of Jack & Lucy, big sister to Allanah and Ayden) recently graduated from Caldwell Academy and is heading to Auburn on an athletic scholarship in diving! After competing as a gymnast for many years, Kayla stepped away from that sport because of injuries and long recovery times That's when she heard about a diving exhibition at a local pool. She attended the exhibition and even participated (talk about jumping in with both feet!). She realized her gymnastics training gave her a distinct advantage in diving. She started diving training in 2018, qualified for the AAU Diving Nationals one year later, and qualified for the USA Diving Junior Nationals in 2021 - 2023.

Her favorite dive is a reverse 2 1/2 tuck off the 10-meter platform, and her most challenging dive is a front 3 1/2 tuck on the 3-meter board. When she returns from Nationals, maybe she could show us how you, too, can do those dives! Best of luck at Nationals, Kayla!!

One quick update on Griffin Williams (check the July Focus for his back story): he won the 26th NC Junior Boys 14 and under Championship by two strokes with scores of 69 and 68! The Starmount family is so very proud of Griffin. Keep it up!!

GOLF

Wednesday Night Ladies Play

August 2. September 6. Wednesday evening will be a gross/net individual play Tee Times will start at 5:30 pm You will receive an email one week prior to the play day. You must sign up within 24 hours to secure a spot for the next week’s play. There must be a minimum of 6 players signed up for tee times to be booked. You must enter your scores into Golf Genius.

Couples Golf

August 4. August 18. September 1. Each Couples Event will be a Captain’s Choice format to allow players of all skill levels to participate. Signup as a foursome or the Golf Professional Shop will pair you up with another couple. The cost of the Couple Events will be $80 per couple per event. The cost of each event will cover golf, dinner, and prizes for the winning teams. Sign up on the Club Calendar.

Ladies Wine and Nine

August 9. August 23.

Open to ALL SFCC members (golf or social members included). It is a fun-filled evening intended to expand friendships among our lady members and to introduce all SFCC ladies to the wonderful game of golf. Membership in the SFLGA is not required to participate in the wine and nine evenings. It is more about smiles and laughs with dinner after the fun on the course! Sign up on the Club Calendar.

Club Championships

Date: August 12, and August 13.

Start Time: Tee Times begin at 8 am each day

Entry Open: Tuesday, July 11 | 7:30 am

Entry Deadline: Friday, August 4 | 12:00 pm

Eligibility: The 2023 Club Championships will be open to all Full Golf Members and the 2023 Junior Club Champion.

Entry Fee: $65 per Player (Cart Fee not included)

Parent- Child Tournament

August 27.

Shotgun starts at 9 am for 18-hole competitors (ages 11 and over), $70 per pair. Afternoon shotgun at 1 pm for 9-hole competitors (ages 10 and under), $60 per pair. All players are invited to a cookout lunch in between shotguns. Prizes will be awarded. Sign up on the Club Calendar.

Calling all singles players! Join us for the Men's and Women's Singles Tennis Tournament Two matches and lots of fun are guaranteed per player. Draws will be flighted. Sign up on the Club Calendar before August 7.

Junior Tennis Camp

August 14 - 17 - Tennis camp #3 full day 9:00 am -3:00 pm $199

**Full-day camps are for ages 7-14 These camps play tennis in the morning and then swim in the pool in the afternoon. Lunch is included each day. Sign up through the link on our website's Club Calendar. Camps are limited to 25 kids. Additional siblings receive 25% off their camp fee if participating during the same week.

Pickleball Mixed Doubles Tournament

August 12. Join us for some competitive pickleball from 1:00 pm - 3; 00 pm on Saturday, August 12. All levels are welcome. Sign up online at the Club Calendar!

Kids Tennis, Pickleball and Pizza Social

August 18. What a great Friday Night! Join our Junior Instructor Glynn on the courts from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm. The cost is $15 per child, which includes pizza, soda, or water and tons of fun! Best for kids ages 5-13. Advanced registration is requested though the Club Calendar.

Drop-in Pickleball Play and Coaching Clinics

Drop-in Play: Mondays 9:00 am and Saturdays at 3: 00 pm.

Mother-Daughter Self Defense

August 1 and August 3.

Complimentary classes with Philip Jones! Learn situational awareness and basic selfdefense from five common attacks. Learn how to protect yourself and send your daughters back to high school and college armed with these mental and physical techniques Register on the Club Calendar to secure your spot, room for ten members per session.

Last Full Month for Aqua Fitness!

Although the pool is open into Labor Day weekend, there is no time like the present to join in on a H20 fitness class. Don't let another summer day go by without experiencing Pool Power, Aqua Zumba, Swim-tervals, or Deep Water. Stay tuned for a water fitness finale event to be offered at the end of summer before the pool closes for the season.

Members can reserve a time in person for the day on a first-come, first-serve basis. Look for the tent near the adult pool! Members can choose the length of the massage, $1 per minute, up to 30 minutes.

Dive In Movie and Karaoke

August 4. Movies are better poolside! Our June movie is "The Super Mario Brothers" While we are waiting for the sun to go down, our DJ will have karaoke available too! The movie starts at 9:00 pm, and karaoke is available beginning at 7:30 pm Complimentary popcorn plus the Splash Bar and Grill will be open!

Summer Pre-Cotillion

August 6. August 13. August 20. Hosted by Julie & Brooks Copeland from the National League of Junior Cotillions. Through role-playing practiced with our mascot, Peanuts, the Polite Elephant—hands-on experience, and storytelling in a peer group, young ladies and gentlemen are expected to leave the program with the beginnings of confidence and poise that come from knowing the proper things to do.

All ages come ready with your handmade cardboard boat for the Annual Cardboard Boat Regatta Race, set to begin at 3:00 pm with multiple heats for all ages.
