EmployeeoftheMonth:SteveHall

Steve Hall has been the Equipment Manager at Starmount Forest since 2010. He plays a vital role in the Golf Course Maintenance Department. He ensures that all the equipment is taken care of and ready for the staff to utilize on the course. He does an outstanding job taking care of our aging equipment fleet to ensure the members and guests have an excellent course to enjoy. He is a team player, aiding in taking care of the range picker, golf carts, and even kitchen equipment! Thank you for your hard work and dedication to Starmount Forest Country Club, Steve! We are thankful for you!

President’s Note

Dear Starmount Family,

I want to start by thanking EVERY staff member as their "what can I do for you?" attitude helped make the Men's Member-Guest Golf Tournament memorable. We can all be proud of how every guest was treated. As a first-time player in that event, it exceeded my every expectation. My brother Kevin and I finished in the middle of the pack, but we had a blast meeting other members and guests. If you've never played in the Men's or Women's Member-Guest, you should!!

On Tuesday, July 11, please join me in welcoming world-renowned orchestra conductor Gerard Schwartz to Starmount. The evening starts at 5:30 pm with an interview with Maestro Schwartz followed by tapas and wine tastings. The cost of dinner includes a ticket to a Chamber Music Concert at Guilford College at 8 pm (playing one of my favorites: Poulenc's 'Sonata for Flute & Piano'). Maestro Schwartz is in town for July as Music Director of the Eastern Music Festival. If you want to hear firstrate classical music, attend any EMF concerts in July!

Here is a back story about one of Starmount's own. Griffin Williams, son of Corey & Megan and brother of Kerigan and Anniston, just finished the 8th grade at Greensboro Day School Griffin plays golf, and to put it mildly, he's got game! As an 8th grader, he qualified to play on GDS's high school golf team, where he helped them beat Forsyth Country Day School in the 2023 NCISAA State Championships!! Congratulations, Griffin and the GDS Golf team!!

Griffin has been coached by Ryan Smith since he was six and is inspired by our own Savio Nazareth. Coach Smith taught Griffin golf fundamentals and continues fine-tuning his swing. They collaborate on Griffin's workout routines and game plans. When he's not out on the golf course, you can find Griffin at our Fitness Center doing 'rotational power training' (if you are a serious golfer or tennis player, ask Fitness Director Lisa Myers about this!). According to Griffin's dad, the best parts of Griffin's golf game are 1) His ability to get out of trouble. 2) His killer touch / short game. 3) His sink-or-swim mentality when a match is on the line. Keep up the great work, Griffin! The Starmount family is behind you all the way!

Best regards,

Summer Motivation

Summer vacation is a time to kick back, relax and have a blast. For many people, that means putting wellness on the back burner. Maintaining a healthy diet and movement is essential to prevent chronic disease and improve quality of life. How can you stay active and healthy during this season without feeling like work? Follow these simple tips!

1. Stay Active: Look for ways to be more active. Explore your city, take on excursions requiring walking, or hit the gym for at least 30 minutes daily.

2. Eat with Mindfulness: Establish that deep connection with your body to know when you are completely satisfied with your food instead of mindlessly overeating. Additionally, when filling up your plate, try to keep half of it filled with vegetables and fruits They are high in fiber and help keep you fuller for longer

3. Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water! Try to limit sugary carbonated drinks and opt for drinking water instead. If you want to drink something with flavor, try fruit-infused carbonated waters.

4. Have Fun: Establish a fun summer routine involving physical activity, meal prepping, and other adventurous ideas to stay active.

BREWERY AND BEERS OF THE MONTH

Left Hand Brewery Longmont, CO

Left Hand St. Vrain Tripel $4.50

A Belgian-style golden ale with intricate aromas of fruit & spice. The usually tranquil St. Vrain River flows out of the Rocky Mountains, winding peacefully alongside our brewery. But, what at first appears benevolent can manifest into something fierce and mighty Named after the river that brought our hometown's great flood in 2013, St Vrain is designed to pay homage to classic Belgian Tripels while also adding a uniquely local twist. Colorado barley creates a subtle malt sweetness, and American hops bring rich herbal and floral aromatics, both perfectly complementing the warm spice and fruit character of the Belgian yeast What at first looks innocent, light in color, and body suddenly swells up with a strong current of aroma and flavor.

WinesoftheMonth

Reddish Hue, Subtle Hops, Toasty Malt. Vienna Lagers are known for their reddish hue, subtle hops, and toasty malt quality. Just don’t delay because this limited release will be Good & Gone in no time.

Aveleda Fonte Vinho Verde White, Portugal $22 per bottle

Clear pale yellow, this wine is extremely elegant, with a crisp and fruity bouquet marked by notes of green apple and lime Slightly fizzy, with a vibrant minerality and refreshing notes of citrus fruits, this wine is versatile, perfect to pair with life's simplest moments.

Peirano Immortal Zinfandel Old Vine, CA $28 per bottle

The color of this wine is truly immortal. Its rich, dark color goes on and on and on! The aromas of big, jammy, dark fruit medley along with raisins, cherry pie, and sugar plum marry together to put your olfactory senses into a new dimension The palate is wrapped in a mysterious, velvety layered mix of sweet blackberries, raspberries, and luscious, juicy fresh-picked ripe plums! The rich, mouth-filling character that immediately jumps out at you is that of mom’s homemade baked cherry and strawberry pie. The wine has moderate oaky tannins and juicy acidity.
