Our History
Formed by a small community of caring parents, STARability has been shining a light on abilities, not disabilities, for nearly four decades. Today, the organization is opening a world of possibilities for hundreds of individuals ages 14 and older by offering a variety of inclusive programs focused on vocational training, continuing education, teamwork, social engagement and community involvement.
Our Focus
Our innovative and creative programs are designed to foster a sense of purpose, cultivate friendships and connections, and instill skill sets that build confidence. Additionally, programs offered on virtual platforms allow STARs to connect with one another and engage in meaningful classes, activities and workshops from anywhere.
Our Values
• Our Trailblazer Academy program gives participants a unique opportunity to receive hands-on training, learn vocational skills to join the workforce and discover life skills to become more independent.
• The Junior Trailblazer Academy is an after-school program for high school students that introduces the Trailblazer curriculum, and through life skills and vocational training it helps prepare students for young adulthood after finishing high school.
• STAR Connections engages our participants and the community through continuing education, art and creative expression workshops, health and wellness classes, sports leagues and many other activities.
We refer to the individuals in our programs as STARs because they brighten our lives, our community and our world. STARs show us again and again the achievements and milestones they can accomplish –reaching new goals each day, developing critical life skills, and laying the foundation for a positive future.
• Our Vocational Services matches our STARs with employers who believe in an inclusive workplace.
• Our Social Enterprises program features the STAR Store & Studio, an inclusive environment for participants to receive vocational training or paid employment helping to maintain the store and create beautiful candles, jewelry, cards and ornaments.
