From Your Pastor’s Desk ... At the heart and core of this year’s Advent season was the image of the door… We decorated the doors of our worship space. We opened the doors of our house - made Advent calendars. And we opened the doors of our hearts as we generously donated to our “Giving Tree.” All this of course Fr. Tony Zimmer was intentional, so that we could Pastor be prepared to open the door to Emmanuel, “God with us.” As we celebrate these Holy Days, I would like to leave with one lasting and rather haunting image of a door…the one of Jesus knocking and waiting patiently for us to open. And as you contemplate on that door, I invite you to read the following poem written by Gerard Kelly, called: “Behold I Stand.” When the night is deep With the sense of Christmas And expectancy hangs heavy On every breath, Behold I stand at the door and knock. When the floor is knee deep In discarded wrapping paper And the new books are open at page one And the new toys are already broken, Behold, I stand at the door and knock. When the family is squashed Elbow to elbow Around the table And the furious rush for food is over And the only word that can describe the feeling Is full, Behold, I stand at the door and knock. And when Christmas is over And the television is silent For the first time in two days And who sent which card to whom Is forgotten until next year, Behold, I stand at the door. Archbishop Grob’s Christmas Message Hello Everyone — After a season of watching and waiting, at the Christmas Midnight Mass we hear the wonderful words: “The people who have walked in darkness have seen a great light.” Isaiah 9:1 Can you imagine for a moment being a part of the nativity scene? Forget the sanitized view born from nativity plays — beautiful though they are —the stable is a dark and muddy place. It is quaint and almost forgotten. In this humble place a cry pierces the night: an infant is born and swaddled in rags. For all intents and purposes, this could be any baby in any place in the world. But what unfolds in this scene is a miraculous birth that forever changed the world. The Savior of the world is not a king born in a grand palace with finery, but an infant born of poor parents in a modest stable. Most Rev. Jeffrey Grob Archbishop of Milwaukee
It’s hard for us to imagine who would take offense at a baby born in a manger — a defenseless infant in such a lowly place. Yet even then, some did. And still today, many turn away. But God holds nothing back. He enters our darkness, our “stables,” our forgotten places. Jesus comes to us not as a princely dignitary who rules with power and decree, but as one meek and humble of heart, bringing light to our darkness and inviting us into a life of humility, gentleness and grace. Through his miracles and mercy, Jesus shows us that everyone — especially those pushed to the margins —is worthy of dignity and love. He continues to invite us to see his presence: in the beauty of creation, in the love of family and friends, and most profoundly, in the presence of Christ in the Eucharist. My hope and prayer for you this Christmas is that your heart will be filled with the light of God’s inbreaking love —that the eternal Son may shine into your life, your heart and your family. May his light, which no darkness can overshadow, fill you with peace, joy and freedom that the world cannot give. May God bless you, and Merry Christmas!

Many, many thanks to everyone who donated to The Giving Tree. Many hearts will be warmed by your generosity. Thank you to Ellen Schlinsog for heading this ministry up, for the Girls Scouts creating the tags and keeping the tree decorated, and for all the volunteers who helped sort and distribute.
58 people attended our Young At Heart Christmas Party on December 11. Mass was celebrated with Fr. Tony and Fr. Ken, followed by a delicious lunch and entertainment from the Waukesha Civic Theatre Senior Players. Many thanks to our volunteers who helped at the event.

This session will uncover common myths and realities surrounding immigrants and immigration while examining the six essential principles of immigration reform outlined by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. The speaker is Darryl Morin, a member of St. Mary Catholic Faith Community in Hales Corners. He is National President of Forward Latino and has worked with Republican and Democratic Administrations to reform our nation’s immigration laws. All are welcome! There will be no charge for the event, however free will offerings will be accepted. Registration by Feb. 1 is requested.

Opening the Door This Advent
As we move through this beautiful season of gratitude and anticipation, our 3K class has been busy learning, creating, and growing in faith. Our preschool students are hard at work recognizing letters, practicing pencil grip, and forming letters. Through hands - on activities, songs, and stories, they are gaining confidence and joy in early literacy.
We have been celebrating God's creation by learning about the signs of winter, including the colder weather, and enjoy playing in the beautiful snow. Everyday, we practice putting on and taking off our cold weather gear and are getting quite good at it! This Advent, our preschoolers are getting ready to celebrate Jesus's birth. We have begun learning Christmas songs, making Christmas - themed crafts, and talking about the meaning of Jesus's coming. We love this joyful season of wonder and anticipation!
We enjoyed learning about Thanksgiving and reflected on the blessings in our lives - family, friends, and the love of Jesus. We created several Thanksgiving projects, but the highlight was the turkeys the children "disguised" with their families. We went on a turkey hunt throughout the school and found them hiding all around.
