In the Eucharist God will always be with you!
At our First Communion Retreat Days, there is a promise I make to children. “You will remember your First Communion Day for the rest of your life.” I ask parents if they remember their First Communion?” Heads nod and hands go up. Decades later I remember, being nervous and the white cake my aunt made with silver candy in the top in the shape of a rosary. I remember my white shoes. I remember knowing this clearly was a big deal.
The deeper meaning of Eucharist is something we grow into and that is a bigger deal than the day itself, however wonderful that is.
How can we take in the beauty, power and awesomeness of Eucharist? It can only happen over time. But it is enough on that special First Holy Communion Day to knows this nourishes the love between our child and God.
First Communion, a sacrament of initiation, is a step in the walk of a Catholic. We become part of the Christian family at Baptism and now our child is old enough to join us at Mass and receive the Body and Blood of Christ. We believe they have enough understanding to celebrate what Jesus did for us through his death and resurrection. In this he gained forgiveness for our sins. He opened the way for us for eternal life. Eucharist is what Jesus told his followers to do to remember him.
Eucharist is the Sacrament that enables us to remember and deepen our relationship with Jesus Christ. Since the beginning of Christianity, the Eucharist has been at the very heart of Catholic spiritual life. If Church walls could talk,
they would tell the story of those who came before us, kept the faith and through the Mass, passed it on from generation to generation.
A simple way to think of the Sacraments is that they are the Church’s body language. At Baptism, we are held in a loving embrace and God, through the Church says, “You are mine.” In Eucharist, we say, “Come closer and share this meal. It is special food and will bring you closer to Christ.”
This is the ritual Christ gave us to hold us together. The Eucharist Celebration has its roots in the Jewish Passover Meal when the Israelites remembered the Jewish families spared from the Pharaoh’s wrath as Moses led the people out of Egypt. In Eucharist, we remember God’s continued faithfulness in Jesus’ death and resurrection. It is a meal of gratitude. In fact, that is what Eucharist means!
Thanksgiving. It’s a Covenant meal renewing again and again God’s promise to us to be our God and we to be God’s people. Just like our family dinner roots us in food and love so does the Mass do this for us as a family of faith.
In Communion, we are giving our children the best spiritual food that can nourish them over their lifetime to live with the joy you see on their First Communion day and strengthen them in any challenge they will face.
Sometimes as parents we say one thing but we really mean another. When we say, “Brush your teeth,” we mean “Learn good habits.” When we say, “Be careful” we mean, “You’re precious to me.” “Hold my hand in parking lots,” means, “We couldn’t bear to live without you.”
But a message we hope to be very clear in bringing our children to their First Communion and sharing Mass together week after week after that, is to say, “God loves you. I love
Jubilee Mass Saturday, May 30
Join us Saturday, May 30 as we celebrate 40 years of priesthood for Fr. Tony Zimmer and 50 years of priesthood for Fr. Ken Knippel. The special Jubilee Mass begins at 5 pm. Many priests will be celebrating with us that day, and well as our deacons. A reception and program in the Parish Life Center will follow the Mass. Plan on arriving early, we are expecting a larger crowd than usual, parking and seating may be limited.

On Sunday, June 7, the church celebrates the Feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, also known as Corpus Christi. The weekends of May 30 & 31 and June 6 & 7 there will be information in the Gathering Space about this feast day and the practice of Eucharistic Adoration. Members of the St. Anthony’s Adoration Group will be on hand to give to more information about Adoration and how you can become an Adorer.

Medical Volunteers Needed at People’s Table in Milwaukee
People's Table food pantry is in need of additional hygiene area volunteers, specifically those with a medical background (i.e., RN, MD, PA, Pharmacist).
Volunteers work Tuesday, 12 to 2:30 pm, or Wednesday, 3:30 to 6 pm stocking hygiene area before the pantry opens, helping clients select hygiene items, and providing feminine hygiene, diapers & formula. Waukesha Chapter of Right to Life Needs Help at Waukesha Fair July 15 19
The Waukesha Chapter of Wisconsin Right to Life will be hosting an information booth at the Waukesha County Fair, Wednesday, July 15 through Sunday, July 19. Our Respect Life Committee is looking for volunteers to work in pairs at the booth for three -hour shifts. To help, please contact Phil Heinle at qualityheinle@gmail.com.
In October we will be running the "Baby Bottle" campaign. There will be baby bottles in the Gathering Space to take home and collect monetary donations for Life's Connection.

OUR SCHOOL
I am super proud of these Second Graders! Second Grade is a pivotal year in a child’s education. The Second Graders have grown significantly academically, socially, and spiritually this year. They have grown as readers. They have become more fluent, improved comprehension skills, and stamina. They now read more complex texts with greater understanding. As writers, they have refined their skills focusing on grammar and sentence structure. They have written wonderful narrative, informational, and opinion pieces. As mathematicians, they have learned more math concepts and now know how to add and subtract two - and three -digit numbers
They have had a BIG year spiritually! They have a deeper understanding of our faith and are beginning to integrate Catholic teachings into their daily life. Most importantly last weekend they received their First Communion and are

We are pleased to announce that Renee Gallagher will be joining St. Anthony on the Lake as the new principal beginning June 15.

Mrs. Gallagher has a strong academic and faith background as she comes to us from the Pewaukee School District and St. Paul/St. Bruno faith communities. Additionally, Renee is an active member with her family at St. Charles Parish in Hartland.
Through her years as an educator, Mrs. Gallagher has served as a classroom teacher, educational specialist, interventionist, staff development facilitator, instructional coach, and assessor. As a committed Catholic, Renee has served as the Child and Faith Formation Director at St. Paul and St. Bruno for the past two years.
Mrs. Gallagher asked that we share the following with the SAL parent community:
I am so pleased to be joining the St. Anthony on the Lake community as the next school principal. I come to you with a variety of educational and leadership experiences, and a deep love for my Catholic faith! I look forward to helping continue the mission of the school and the history of strong academic excellence. I look forward to immersing myself in the parish and school community and learning all about what makes St. Anthony on the Lake so very special.
