Volunteers are at the heart of what it takes to keep a parish running smoothly.
Have you ever heard the commercial with the slogan, “Do you know a guy in the window and door business? No, but I know a girl”?
St. Anthony on the Lake has a lot of “guys and girls” in many different areas who are willing to share their talents and gifts.
St. Anthony on the Lake has earned a reputation within the Archdiocese of Milwaukee as a parish blessed with talented members who are willing to get involved and generously donate not only their treasure, but also their time and talent.
Several years ago, during our parish reaccreditation process, an interviewer asked why we were not relying on outside consultants for various parish activities and committees. In response, I listed members of our finance, personnel, and buildings and grounds committees, along with the companies they work for and the professional positions they hold. Later, I was told that many parishes would give anything to have even one person with those qualifications serving on their committees.
What makes our parish especially remarkable is that parishioners are not only willing to share their professional expertise, they are also willing to pitch in wherever help is needed.
A wonderful example took place on April 25 during our annual Spring Clean -Up Day. About 15 volunteers
arrived with four tractors, buckets, rakes, and shovels ready to work, led by Bob Bluhm. In less than three hours, the group spruced up the campus and moved an incredible 75 yards of mulch. Their hard work and cheerful spirit made a tremendous difference and demonstrated once again what can be accomplished when people come together in service.
The strength of St. Anthony on the Lake has never been found only in its buildings or programs, but in its people. Our volunteers quietly and faithfully serve in countless ways every day often behind the scenes helping to make our parish a welcoming, vibrant, and faith -filled community.

Traditionally, a May Crowning is when we place a crown of flowers on a statue of Mary at our parish (or at home). In doing so, we honor Mary as the Queen of Heaven and the Mother of God.

The Waukesha Chapter of Wisconsin Right to Life will be hosting an information booth at the Waukesha County Fair, Wednesday, July 15 through Sunday, July 19. People's Table food pantry is in need of additional hygiene area volunteers, specifically those with a medical background (i.e., RN, MD, PA, Pharmacist).
Volunteers work Tuesday, 12 to 2:30 pm, or Wednesday, 3:30 to 6 pm stocking hygiene area before the pantry opens, helping clients select hygiene items, and providing feminine hygiene, diapers & formula. No matter what the circumstances, separation and divorce are painful. We want to support individuals who are facing that pain, no matter how recent or distant your separation or divorce may be. Deacon John Murray and his wife, Missy, have firsthand experience with the emotional pain and practical struggles faced by people who are divorced. This group is open to all and meets the fourth Monday of each month.
Al McCauley and his former teaching colleague Pete Yaeger are offering a trip to Gettysburg, PA and Emmitsburg, MD from Thursday through Sunday, September, 24 -27. We will tour the battlefield, other historic sites, and visit the National Shrine Grotto of our Lady of Lourdes and National St. Elizabeth Seton Shrine and Basilica. 6th Grade Homeroom, Middle School Social Studies
From May 6-8, I was fortunate to chaperone and participate in the 8th grade trip to Washington D.C. It was an amazing experience for everyone involved, and a great way to bring to life the content students have learned this year in US History!
The trip is very jam -packed, but very informative. Students and parent chaperones were able to see a number of museums, memorials, and historical locations during the three day trip. While I certainly cannot pick a favorite spot that we visited, I know students enjoyed our tour of Ford’s Theatre, the location of President Lincoln’s assassination.
Students were able to witness the Changing of the Guard at Arlington National Cemetery. This special
event takes place every half -hour at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, a memorial dedicated to the deceased United States service members whose remains have not been identified. Four eighth grade students participated in a special wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb to represent the SAL community and honor the fallen soldiers who died for our country.
I am very proud of how our students represented the St. Anthony on the Lake community while on the trip. They attentively listened to the tour guide and showed respect at every memorial they saw.
This trip was a fantastic way for the eighth grade to wrap-up their time as students at St. Anthony on the Lake. Thank you to the parishioners and parents without whom this trip would not have been possible.
