Celebrating the Triduum

This week we enter into the most sacred days of the Christian calendar, Holy Week. We honor and celebrate these holy days much in the way we have for centuries. We set aside these days and celebrate each of them in a vastly unique way. We begin with a special Palm Sunday concert 4 pm presented by the choir entitled “The Lenten Sketches . ” In song, artwork, and scripture, the choir sings of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem, His institution of the Eucharist, His Crucifixion, and Mary’s sorrow and anguish as she holds the body of Jesus for the last time. It is a beautiful way to begin Holy Week.
Holy Thursday , the celebration of the Lord’s Supper, will begin at 7 pm and will include the reception of new Holy Oils, blessed by our new archbishop earlier in the week, along with the traditional washing of feet and exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. The priest and deacon will wash the feet of members of our Partners in Mercy who will acting as the symbolic twelve. The priest will then encourage the congregation to participate, washing each other’s feet as we have in the past. At the conclusion of the Mass the Blessed Sacrament will be moved to the Memorial Chapel for silent prayer and devotion until 10 pm.
Good Friday will begin at Noon with Living Stations of the Cross lead by the youth of our parish. At 1 pm the celebration of the Lord’s Passion will begin with the reading of the Passion Gospel and Veneration of the cross. When you approach the cross, make a profound bow from the waist, say a short prayer if you wish, and then return to your pew. Communion will be distributed as usual from the reserved sacrament.
The Easter Vigil will begin at 8 pm with the congregation gathering outside the church for the blessing of the new fire and the lighting of the Paschal Candle. We will then process into the darkened church, and continue with the readings and psalms, the blessing of new Holy Water. We welcome our catechumen, Anand Patel, into full communion in the Catholic Church with the sacraments of Initiation of Baptism, Confirmation, and Communion. We conclude with the celebration of Holy Eucharist.

The Catholic in Recovery program offers a meeting for family and friends of people who suffer from addiction, and a separate meeting for those who suffer from addiction themselves. Both the Family and Friends Recovery Group and General Recovery Group meet on Tuesdays in the Parish Life Center.

Youth Choir and Musicians Needed
We are looking for students in grades 5 through high school to sing and play for the enactment of Stations of the Cross on Good Friday, April 3.

OUR SCHOOL
One of the great things about St. Anthony on the Lake School is the wide variety of activities available for students to enjoy. Following our recent celebration honoring fathers and father figures for the Feast of St. Joseph, we were delighted to host the Mother/Son Prom. A heartfelt thank you to the dedicated the planning committees of both of these for creating such fun and memorable events.
Students are also hard at work preparing for the annual musical! The cast has been selected, and our talented performers are getting ready for this year’s production of The Wizard of Oz: Youth Edition. Be sure to save the dates: May 2 and May 3! General ticket sales opened April 1; visit the website to reserve your seats. We wish all of our families a wonderful Spring Break from April 3–12, and look forward to welcoming students back on April 13.
Finally, we are excited for High Interest Day on Friday, May 22. Volunteers are needed to help make this special day a success! Assistance is welcome for setup on Thursday, May 21, as well as during the event and for cleanup on Friday. Whether you can give a little time or a lot, we greatly appreciate your support. Thank you for helping us create an unforgettable experience for our students. We truly couldn’t do it without you!
