This Sunday, in the Gospel of John, we hear about the raising of Lazarus. When Jesus arrives in Bethany, Lazarus has already been in the tomb for four days. Martha greets Jesus with both faith and grief, saying, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” Jesus responds with a very profound statement, “I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live.” (John 11:25).
This moment reveals something essential about Jesus’ heart. He does not stand distant from human suffering. Jesus weeps with Mary and the others. The Son of God enters fully into human grief and sorrow. Yet, in the midst of that sorrow, Jesus also reveals God’s power by standing before the tomb and calling Lazarus out of death into life.
This miracle points beyond Lazarus to Jesus’ own victory over death in the Resurrection. It reminds us that death does not have the final word; Christ does.
As we look ahead to Palm Sunday and the beginning of Holy Week, this Gospel prepares our hearts for what is to come. The
raising of Lazarus is the final great sign before Jesus enters Jerusalem, where shouts of “Hosanna” will soon give way to the events of the cross. In this moment we see both the depth of Jesus’ compassion and the power of the life God brings. It is a promise that will reach its fulfillment in the Resurrection we celebrate at Easter.
In our own lives, we sometimes encounter moments that feel like sealed tombs. We experience times of grief, loss, doubt, or spiritual dryness. This Gospel passage reminds us that Jesus stands before those tombs and calls us to life. When we trust in God, hope can break through even the darkest places.
May we hear Christ’s voice calling us to deeper faith, trusting that the God who raised Lazarus continues to bring life where we least expect it.

March is colorectal cancer awareness month, the deadliest cancer for people under 50. This month we also acknowledge kidney and brain health, and National Nutrition. The Nutritional food pyramid has inverted to increase daily protein to 1.2-1.6 grams per kilogram (2.2lbs) with the focus on whole, real foods (fruits/veggies) and full dairy/plant based foods. Processed and sugary foods lead to many illnesses. God gave us everything we need for healthy choices.

Prayed on Tuesday afternoons at 1:30pm and Friday afternoons at noon, Stations of the Cross offers us an opportunity to walk with Jesus through his suffering as he carried the cross. Traditionally prayed on Fridays this ancient prayer is a great Lenten discipline once a week or daily throughout Lent.

Inspiring Music to Begin Holy Week
On Sunday afternoon, March 29th the Choir and Musicians will present their annual Palm Sunday Concert with Lenten Sketches, a cantata by Joseph Martin. Combining sacred artwork, holy scripture, and exquisite music, it’s the perfect way to enter into Holy Week.
Proceeds for the concert will benefit the MacCanon Brown Homeless Sanctuary. This year, we are specifically targeting their Anti-Recidivism Program. The AntiRecidivism Program helps men and women who have offended in the past, served their sentence and are now rebuilding their lives. Recidivism refers to the return to prison within three years of release for criminal acts that result in rearrest or reconviction.
Participants attend weekly meetings, track their progress, and are giving incentives to avoid reoffending. Incentive may include: bus passes, a bicycle, access to the food pantry and clothing bank, along with community resource information.

We are looking for students in grades 5 through high school to sing and play for the enactment of Stations of the Cross on Good Friday, April 3.
We will meet at 9:30 am on April 3, rehearse, and the enactment is at noon.

Sunday families ended the program year with a Prayer Fair. It was a meaningful experience for all. Unfortunately, Monday Family Program was canceled due to weather. We hope to be able to offer something similar in the future. Watch for early bird registration next month!
Children’s Liturgy of the Word takes place at 9:00 am Mass, September through May. Children ages 4 through first grade hear and learn about the Sunday Scriptures through the Children’s Lectionary, discussion, and song.

As we continue our Lenten journey, our 4K class is learning that this is a special time to grow closer to God. While Lent can seem like a big concept for little ones, we focus on simple, meaningful lessons that help them understand love, kindness, and caring for others. Throughout these weeks, the children will learn that Lent is a time to pray, share, and show kindness. We have made a crown of thorns as a class which reminds us how Jesus suffered and died for us. When a student does a good deed towards another person, we remove one of the thorns from the crown. Our hope is that throughout our Lenten journey we will remove all the thorns from the crown by showing love, kindness, and caring towards our peers. We have also been spending time learning about the Stations of the Cross. In our classroom we have 14 small crosses that represent each of the Stations. In each cross there is a small symbol to help us
remember each Sation. For example, for the second station there is a small cardboard cross to remind us that Jesus accepted his cross. We have spent time in the church walking and discussing the Stations together and have joined the whole school for Stations of the Cross on Tuesday afternoons. Even at a young age, our 4K friends are discovering that Lent is a time to love God and care for others. We look forward to continuing this journey together as we prepare our hearts for the joy of Easter.
Thanks to the volunteers who began the process of sorting, organizing, and cataloguing all of the parish books! We made quite a dent in the project! Help will be needed again the week after Easter. We'll be ready to share the catalogue soon!

Human trafficking IS in our backyard. Join us for a presentation on this important topic. FBI agent, Amy Mentzel, will provide an explanation of human trafficking, recruitment methods, and the roadblocks faced by victims seeking help.
Anne Haines, founder and Executive Director of St. Bakhita Catholic Worker House, will then share how St. Bakhita’s responds to this issue by providing for the housing and community needs of women survivors of human trafficking in Milwaukee, as well as addressing survivors’ trauma and promoting healing.
Resources will be shared highlighting red flags to watch for and how to report it if you see something that could be human trafficking.
What a fun and successful evening we had at our 7th annual Signature Event “Angels Among Us,” at the Ingleside Hotel on Saturday, March 7. So many showed up in support of St. Anthony on the Lake parish, school, and faith formation programs! We honored our Profiles in Faith Award winners, Jim and Cheryl Oliva and were inspired by all they do to share their time and talents with our community. They are truly angels among us!
