In the Gospel this weekend, Jesus tells the parable of the wheat and the weeds. A farmer sows good seed in his field, but during the night an enemy plants weeds among the wheat. When the servants discover the weeds, they immediately want to pull the weeds out. The master stops them, knowing that removing the weeds too soon could uproot the wheat as well. Instead, he tells them to let both grow together until the harvest. Summer, I think, helps us to understand this parable. As gardens, fields, and flowers grow, we know that healthy plants need time. A farmer cannot rush the harvest, and a gardener can’t expect instant blooms. Growth happens gradually through sunshine, rain, and careful tending. The same is true of our faith.

Summer can be a season of relaxation, vacations, and family time, but it is also an opportunity to continue growing spiritually. Even when our routines change with the slower or faster pace of summer, we are called to stay rooted in Christ through daily prayer, participating in Mass, reading Scripture, and serving others. These practices nourish our souls just as sunlight and rain nourish the crops. The Gospel also invites us to be patient with ourselves and with others. We all have areas where we struggle. The Church is a place where weeds and wheat grow together. We are all imperfect and on the way to holiness. God does not give up on us because of our weaknesses. Instead, God continues to work patiently within us, helping faith, hope, and love grow stronger than the weeds in our lives. As we enjoy the beauty of summer, may we remember that God is always at work in our hearts and in our lives. If we remain close to God, God will produce good fruit and a bountiful harvest far beyond our expectations.
Beginning July 20, Waukesha County will be performing road repair on Highway SS from 500 feet north of Golf Road to Highway G. The work is expected to take two to three weeks.
The road will be OPEN to the public traveling to St. Anthony on the Lake. Suggested weekday alternative: Golf to Elmhurst to Oakton.

The Young at Heart committee is planning an afternoon on Lake Geneva Tuesday, August 18 for all ages. Event includes roundtrip transportation from the parish to Lake Geneva, a two -hour and fifteen -minute “Best of the Lake” boat tour, and a full lunch.
