LESSONS & CAROLS Over the years, the Choirs and Musicians of St. Anthony on the Lake have presented an annual Lessons and Carols service, inviting us to encounter the mystery of Christ’s birth through rich Scripture readings and beautiful music. This cherished tradition weaves together word and song to proclaim God’s saving work and to draw us more deeply into prayer during the Advent season.

FROM OUR SCHOOL: Grade 7 & Middle School Science Happy New Year! I am excited to be back in school. I hope your family was able to spend some quality time celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. Before Christmas vacation, the sixth grade class learned about the rock cycle and the different types of rocks found in the United States. They learned that each type of rock can Devon Thiel start as one type and, over time, 7th Grade Teacher and Middle School gradually become a different type of Science rock. The students researched where different sedimentary rocks are found, with a main focus on the Grand Canyon. At the end of the unit, the students examined rock samples and discovered the many types of rocks around them. In seventh grade, the main focus has been on technology and communication. Students recently learned about different types of waves: light, electromagnetic, and sound waves. They participated in hands - on activities using Morse code and analog
communication using dots and dashes. Students also explored digital communication by writing messages to me using binary code (1s and 0s), just like a computer does. To conclude the unit, the students made cup phones to see how far they could communicate with their classmates. Finally, the eighth graders have been diving into the human body curriculum. First, they started with the smallest part of the human body: the cell. The students learned the different types of cells and their functions. They created what is called the “cell city.” The students took the cell and its organelles and related them to different structures in a city or town. Once they finished with the cells, they learned about the tissues, organs, and organ systems. This learning led them to their body systems project, where the students researched a body system and presented their finding to the class. As you can see, we have been very busy learning science in the middle school.
