Open House and Catholic Schools Week provide for us a joyful celebration of everything that makes St. Anthony on the Lake a special place to learn and grow.
During Open House (today, Sunday, from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm), families and parishioners have the opportunity to tour classrooms, meet our dedicated teachers and staff, and experience firsthand the faithfilled environment that supports our students academically, spiritually, and emotionally. Students in grades 5 -8 are proudly displaying essays centered on what they love most about SAL, reminding us that our greatest strength is our community.
Catholic Schools Week helps us to highlight the many blessings of Catholic education. Our “Open the Door” theme allows us to focus on ways in which we can live the gospel values, seek the lost, commit to our faith and academic excellence, and serve others. Activities include prayer services, special classroom activities, service opportunities, and moments of gratitude that
encourage our students to live out our school’s mission through kindness, leadership, and service.
Throughout the week, we are reminded that Catholic education is not only about academic excellence, but also about forming hearts rooted in faith and minds prepared to serve. We are grateful to our families, parishioners, and all who continue to make our school a place where children are nurtured, challenged, and inspired.

Second Grade has had a great first half of the school year! Second grade is a crucial stage in a child's academic, social, and faith development. It lays the foundation for future learning.
In Language Arts we continue to develop reading and writing skills. We are learning to read more complex texts, and we are working on improving our comprehension and fluency. We make personal connections to the texts we read. A highlight of our year so far is that we made Stone Soup when we read several versions of the folktale before Thanksgiving. It was so fun to share a meal together as a classroom family.
An exciting part of Second Grade is handwriting. Our fine motor skills are ready to take on cursive writing! The students are so excited to take their handwriting skills to the next level!

In Math, we are expanding on our prior Math knowledge by solving harder story problems and learning to regroup when adding and subtracting twoand three -digit numbers.
This month we made our First Reconciliation. We approached it with some excitement and a little bit of nerves, but we felt the love of Jesus afterward. We are now ready to begin preparing our
We are halfway through the art school year already! I started the year with our theme “Open the Door.” I asked my art classes, “what will you open the door to” and received great answers! We made doors out of card stock, and on the outside cover the kids created a visual of who they are and what interests them. On the inside they dug deep to find out what God was calling them to do to open the door to God. I am asking each child to act on these challenges. We embraced the season of fall with intense color using oil pastels by learning and showing cool colors and warm colors with leaves falling. The leaves were intense with color! We made harvest corn with tissue paper, and 3D pumpkins with strips of colored paper. Both projects had a painted dot boarder of colored dots that made the piece pop! The middle school kids created a geometric piece with autumn -colored shapes and leaves. What surprising results I saw! At Christmas, we created Christmas on the farm, with each class making different farm animals in different media from oil pastel to ripped paper. The animals were adoring the Christ child. It was so much fun to see the different animals' personalities come out. We are now learning about the techniques of watercolor. I am seeing amazing results and see the pride in the kids as they are learning! We are painting angels on the horizon for the Gala, and 3D art is to come!
