Lent begins this week with Ash Wednesday on February 18th. This year we continue our theme for the year of “Open the Door” focusing on weekly topics: The Test, The Revelation, The Conversation, The Healing, and The Deliverence. Lent encourages us to open the door and spread light on the dark places around us. This Lenten season, we are asked to renew ourselves, focus on Christ’s goodness, and to open the door by sharing that goodness with those around us. We are called to act as Jesus and be a light to others, shattering the darkness around them. We do this through the disciplines of Lent: making time for prayer, giving to the poor, and providing service to others.
In Lent we explore how Christ’s love and grace affects all aspects of our life. We take a closer, inward look at how we can share that grace and the goodness it brings in the world around us. Lent is the perfect time to find new ways to live a spiritual life through prayer and grow in our faith.
This year, be encouraged to find new ways to pray and “Open the Door.”
Think about attending Stations of the Cross, spending an hour in Adoration with the Blessed Sacrament, or joining in the TaizÈ Prayer Service all great ways to connect with our Lord. Find new ways of helping, and more importantly, connecting with the poor through volunteering at MacCannon Brown Homeless Sanctuary, or working with St. Vincent de Paul, serving at a meal program, or even something as simple as visiting a shut in. Seek out new ways to serve others by “ Opening the Door.”

For children with incurable diseases and their families receive the necessary medial care and support, never losing strength and hope.
St. Anthony on the Lake is a warm, welcoming place. Help newcomers, guests, and our parish family feel welcome as they enter church by becoming a greeter. It’s not hard; all you need is a friendly smile and a willingness to help.
In addition to providing a warm welcome, greeters show people where they can hang coats, find the elevator, and locate the restrooms. You don’t need to sign up for a specific day, Mass time, or join a group. Just come 15 to 20 minutes early, grab a greeter badge, station yourself at
the front doors, put a smile on your face, and welcome parishioners and guests. This is a wonderful opportunity for couples and families to serve together! If you have any other questions contact the Music and Liturgy Office.

St. Anthony on the Lake School recently celebrated Catholic Schools Week. We started with a very successful Open House on Sunday, January 25, followed by a week of special activities. On Monday, the middle school students attended Mass at Catholic Memorial High School with Archbishop Grob. Many classes played board games and found time for D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything and Read). Students wrote thank you letters to parents, and they made Valentine’s Day cards for the Hope Center, Family Promise, Lake Country Caring and MacCanon Brown Homeless Sanctuary.
On Wednesday, following the theme of Open the Door to Christ through Faith, students celebrated Mass, prayed a schoolwide rosary led by the 4th grade class, and attended Adoration.
Classes enjoyed a variety of fun activities, including buddy class activities centered on the Open the Door theme, kindness activities, and celebrating the 100th day of school! We even played bingo!
Friday’s theme, Open the Door to Serving Christ, featured the culmination of our cereal drive for People’s Table. After collecting 419 boxes of cereal, the 6th grade students gathered and counted the cereal, the 7th grade
design, and the 8th grade class designed the final section for a successful domino toppling of cereal boxes. Thanks to the middle school students for helping with that endeavor. A special thank you goes out to the student government officers for assisting each day to create a successful Catholic Schools Week.
Our outreach activities will continue after Catholic Schools Week. We are currently collecting pop tabs for Ronald McDonald House. The pop tabs can come from soda, soup cans, and even pet food cans. Any pop tab works! Thank you for donating pop tabs for Ronald McDonald House! We will also continue our Tuna Tuesday collection during Lent. Last year, we exceeded our goal of 1,000 cans of tuna by collecting an amazing 1,473 cans. Local food pantries and other organizations continue to experience a great need for nonperishable food items and other supplies, so we will continue to offer these on outreach opportunities.
