One of my favorite places I visited on pilgrimage to the Holy Land was Tabgha, home to the Church of the Multiplication of the Loaves and Fishes.
Situated near the northwestern shore of the Sea of Galilee, this church is traditionally honored as the place where Jesus miraculously fed the five thousand. Near the altar is a beautiful fifthcentury mosaic depicting the loaves and fishes. It is a simple and powerful reminder of Christ's abundant generosity. As I read the Gospel for this weekend, I couldn't help but think of this sacred place. In the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves and fishes, we are reminded that we are invited to participate in God’s saving work. When Jesus sees the hungry crowd, he does not simply solve the problem himself. Instead, Jesus turns to the disciples and says, "Give them some food yourselves." In doing so, Jesus reveals that God delights in working through ordinary people. He takes what they offer, however small it may seem, and transforms it into what is needed.
This Gospel reminds us that God accomplishes extraordinary things through humble offerings. Five loaves and two fish hardly seem like enough to feed thousands, but once they were placed into Jesus' hands, he gave thanks, blessed them, broke them, and there was more than enough for everyone. The same is true in our lives. When we share our time,
talents, and treasure with God, God multiplies them in ways we could never imagine.
Sometimes we can be tempted to think that miracles belong only in the pages of Scripture. We tell ourselves that miracles happened long ago but no longer happen today. The church at Tabgha stands as a reminder that these events happened in real places and among real people. More importantly, the same God who multiplied the loaves and fishes continues to work through people today. Every act of charity, every word of encouragement, every sacrifice offered in love becomes another opportunity for Christ to multiply what we place in his hands. While we may not see thousands fed with five loaves and two fish, we do see hearts and lives changed, bridges built, and faith deepened. God still works miracles and invites each of us to be participants in God’s saving work by offering what we have with trusting and generous hearts.

If you're both about 5, seek a middle ground. If you're both around 10, seek a creative new solution or put off the decision and agree to disagree for now. Don't play games though. If one partner ALWAYS feels like a 10, he or she may need to deal with control issues.
