Welcome to St. Anthony on the Lake! A special welcome to all visitors or guests joining us today as we gather to celebrate the joy of Easter. This sacred season reminds us that light overcomes darkness, and life triumphs over death. As an Easter people, we are called to live in that hope each day, carrying the spirit of “Alleluia” in our hearts and sharing it with all we meet.

I still remember my very first Easter celebration here at St. Anthony on the Lake some 16 years ago. I remember Laurie Polkus, our Director of Music and Liturgy at that time, telling me that the choir was going to be singing an anthem after the Gospel and before my homily. I had no idea what to expect. But when the moment came during the Easter Vigil I was so deeply moved. The women from our choir, young and old, processed down the aisles of our church, stood in the sanctuary, and began to sing acapella: “He is Risen.” Although there were many voices together, they sounded like one. They sang with passion. They sang with conviction. They sang with hope. Until they crescendoed into a final proclamation of “Alleluia!” By the time they returned to their seats, I could barely speak. That was all I needed to see, hear, and know in the depth of my soul that indeed He has risen.
That is my hope and my prayer for our faith family, this and every Easter. That you will hear that refrain echo in the very depth of your being every time you are:
• Filled with despair
• Feeling alone
• Facing the tomb of grief and loss
• Longing for acceptance
• Hoping that God will answer your prayers
• Heading towards the new and the unknown And then take notice… of the tulips in bloom, of a cancer in remission, of a new found love, of a fully initiated Catholic (Anand Patel), of a confirmand receiving the gifts of the Holy Spirit, of a second grader celebrating their first Holy Communion, of a graduate being commenced, and so much more. And as you watch and learn, I invite you to listen closely… you just might hear the women singing as they did so very long ago: “He is risen. He is risen. He is risen. Alleluia. Alleluia! Alleluia!!” May we go forth from our empty tombs with this truth, hope, and promise. May this song be our anthem. And may this be the story we tell. Easter blessings,

In Jesus’ first words to the women at the tomb, he says three things we can take to
First, he says, “Do not be afraid.” We all have something we’re afraid of. Jesus’ ultimate triumph over sin and death should cast away all our fears and worries. Of course, this is much harder in practice than in theory, but we are reminded to cling to God’s
Then he tells them to “go” and tell. The women at the tomb become the first evangelists, and this is the call to us as well. Go! Go tell your children and spouses. Go tell the neighbors who live next to you. Jesus has conquered death and defeated our sin. We are meant to be on the move. Go. Tell. Lastly, he tells them that they will see him in Galilee. What is Galilee for us? It is our mission field. When you think about your own mission field, you might wonder if you’re being called to some distant land, like the prophets of old. For many of us, our Galilee is much closer than we think. Your “Galilee,” the place where you will see Jesus is the home in which you live, the place in which you work, the community in which you are rooted, the Church in which you worship. The people in those places are those in whom you will see Jesus.
Everything has changed. Do not be afraid. Go and tell others that Jesus is alive. Then you will see Jesus in yourself and in others.

A very special thank you to Maggie Flanagan making nearly 200 neon Green Rosary’s for our grade 9, 10, and 11 teens. This was a beautiful act of love and prayer for our teens. We are grateful, Maggie! Each teen and small group leader received a rosary during their annual retreat. As we meditate on the mysteries of Christ, may these rosaries serve as a reminder that faith and hope are with us, even in difficult times.
