Normally I would not dedicate a bulletin column to a discussion on e -mail, but the situation has escalated to the point that we have lost communication with some of our parishioners who utilize emails with addresses ending in rr.com or roadrunner.com .
We have noticed that some or all our emails to Roadrunner addresses are bouncing back or failing to deliver reliably. While these email addresses may still appear to work on your end, we are increasingly seeing them flagged or rejected, which makes it hard for us to keep in touch with those who have these addresses via email and our parish -wide update system or announcements. Sometimes we get notified that the e-mail was not delivered, but increasingly we get no notification.
There are a few reasons why this is happening. One reason is that Roadrunner email was originally managed by Time Warner Cable, but after mergers, the email services are now handled by Spectrum. Spectrum no longer issues new Roadrunner (or rr.com) email accounts. The other challenge is deliverability problems. Some software products (including Outlook, which our parish uses) have made it challenging to send communications to rr.com or roadrunner.com domains because they were being flagged for poor deliverability or spam issues. That means emails may bounce back, or individuals may not receive everything we send even though an account is still “active.”
Because of these challenges, we want to make sure we don’t lose touch with our parishioners. Here’s what we recommend, though ultimately it is an individual’s choice:
• Consider using a different email provider such as Gmail, Outlook, or another free, reliable service for main communications.
• Set up forwarding (if possible) from the Roadrunner account to your new email, so messages sent to the old address still reach the individual.
• Alternatively, check your Roadrunner / Spectrum Webmail settings to make sure you're still able to receive mail.
If you have one of these addresses and you’re not sure how to do this or need help setting up forwarding or a new email, we would be more than happy to try to assist you. We deeply value our connection with you, and want to ensure that you continue receiving the information, and support from the parish that you deserve. 5K learned about the Holy Trinity. We read about how St. Patrick used the three -leaf clover to illustrate the Holy Trinity. We made our own three-leaf clovers and put the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in one of the leaves. The kids connected the Sign of the Cross prayer to the Holy Trinity. They also learned about how the Holy Spirit helps guide us to follow the ways of Jesus.
During Lent, 5K heard stories from the Bible about Holy Week. They engaged in
discussions about Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter. My favorite question was about the difference in the crowd between Palm Sunday and Good Friday. A student asked, “Why did the crowd first welcome Jesus and then hurt him later?” They connected the words said at the Last Supper to the words said during the Mass. They used the stories to get a better understanding of the Stations of the Cross as well.
