Orton-Gillingham (K-4 Individual Intervention, 5-8 Small Group)
The Orton-Gillingham approach is a direct, explicit, multisensory, structured, sequential, diagnostic, and prescriptive way to teach literacy when reading, writing, and spelling does not come easily to individuals, such as those with dyslexia. St. Anne’s School currently has 5 trained Orton-Gillingham tutors.
Targeted Intervention (K-8 Small Group)
Targeted Intervention is designed to provide students with focused, explicit instruction in specific academic areas. Instruction is tailored to strengthen core skills, build content understanding, and increase student confidence within targeted subjects. Through structured, teacher-guided support, students engage in skill development that promotes greater independence and academic growth. Specific areas of focus may include executive functioning skills as well as:
Math: Provides engaging, differentiated math instruction through a blend of teacher-led lessons and adaptive technology, helping students build foundational skills.
Reading Comprehension: Through targeted instruction, students develop strategies such as visualization, activating prior knowledge, making predictions, questioning, and monitoring for understanding. This support strengthens comprehension, vocabulary, critical thinking, and written expression.
Targeted Intervention is scheduled during Spanish for Grade 5 and during World Languages and Cultures for Grades 6-8. For students in Grades K-4, families and teachers will receive a detailed schedule outlining the specific days and times students will be pulled from class, ensuring that instruction is delivered with minimal disruption to the overall school day.
Executive Functioning (5-8 Small Group)
Executive Functioning support equips our Upper School students with practical strategies to manage their time, responsibilities, and communication effectively. Support includes: breaking large assignments into smaller, manageable steps; creating realistic study plans and organizing materials; balancing homework with extracurricular activities; practicing time management by prioritizing tasks and estimating time; building self-advocacy skills, including asking for help and communicating with teachers.
