EDITOR’S CHOICE

Mustang enthusiasts have asked for a magazine that has no ads, no sales pitches, and no bogus “fillers” to eat up space. They have asked for a magazine that is free, easy to access, and nothing but focused on Mustang pictures and content. They have asked for a magazine produced and written by Mustang owners. They have asked for a magazine that highlights the daily drivers and the average Mustang that is driven and is not a trailer queen. They have asked for the chance to one day have their ride, their group, their club, or their cause to be recognized in print or online. It is our absolute pleasure to meet these standards and to give you STANG Magazine. We hope that both our message and our image will be seen in every Mustang community out there. Thank you Mustang fans and enjoy your ride! - Daniel Ramey, Editor-In-Chief

IT WAS BUILT TO BE DRIVEN HARD...

MEMBERS OF THE STANG MAG FAMILY ARE MORE PASSIONATE ABOUT FUN AND INCLUSION THAN THEY ARE THEIR CARS AND THAT SAYS A LOT!

Rescued from beneath a carport and teetering on the edge of forgotten-project status, this 1966 Ford Mustang has been reborn as a no-excuses track weapon with street manner and a whole lot of attitude. Owned by Ryan Jones, proprietor of Proformance Motorsports in Mooresville, North Carolina, the car known as “GulfBall” is the physical embodiment of Ryan’s lifelong passion with autocross and road racing.

If you asked me if I thought I’d be writing an article for STANG Magazine for my car this time last year I would’ve said no. If you asked me if I would be writing it about a different car than the 2005 Roush Mustang I had I would’ve said hell no. I loved that car but acquir ing this one reinvigorated my passion for car shows and events!

What began as a plain-Jane white Mustang, complete with a ragged vinyl top and its fair share of rust, has undergone a complete, ground-up transformation. Over the course of two years, the car was stripped to make way for extensive custom fabrication throughout. The result is a purpose-built performance machine wrapped in the instantly recognizable Gulf livery, a nod to motorsports history that perfectly suits the car’s mission.

Under the hood lives a rowdy 427ci Small Block Ford, forcefed with nitrous and backed by a Tremec TKX 5-speed transmission. Power is put to the pavement through a custom-built 4-link rear suspension, while Global West and QA1 components keep the chassis composed when the car is pushed to its limits. This Mustang wasn’t built for show, it was built to be driven hard, lap after lap. Ryan is a two-time Vintage Class Grand Champion at Holley Ford Fest and regularly competes in the USCA series, competing at some of the most iconic speedways in the country. Highlights such as racing under the lights at Daytona, a bucket-list experience that few enthusiasts ever get to claim.

Despite its track-focused build, the car is no trailer queen. This Mustang is daily driven, blending classic muscle with modern comfort including power windows, power door locks, and climate control.

GulfBall is proof that a vintage Mustang doesn’t have to choose between authenticity and performance, or between street duty and track abuse. It’s a machine built to be used loud, fast, and unapologetically driven.

IT HAS BEEN FUN GOING TO CAR SHOWS...

I have owned my Mustang since February 2000. My home is in Alaska and I was able to drive the Mustang from May through August and then I parked the car.

November 2021 I shipped the Mustang to Utah for refurbishment, including bodywork, interior renovation, repainting, and replacement of tires and rims.

Prior to my ownership, the Mustang had been painted with a tri-coat paint so to keep the same look, I had my Mustang repainted with House of Kolor tri coat paint, Candy Apple Red, featuring a gold base.

The Mustang is still in Utah where my wife has a house and it has been fun going to car shows in the lower 48 states!

My wife has affectionately named our Mustang “Ruby,” and as a good husband I agreed.

THIS CAR IS CRAZY FUN TO DRIVE...

This is my dream car. She was appraised for $145,000 USD. That would be $195,000 Canadian. I live in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. I am the only one with a 65 Fastback here and if there are any around, I have not seen them. I drive mine. Nickname is Blue Rocket.

It has a 302 bored out to a 347 Stroker. The paint is custom paint. Only I have the paint code. I sold my 2019 supercharged California Special to buy this one. This car was bought in the states and brought up to Canada to be a restomod. This car took three years to build. It won several awards.

This car was even signed by Dave Kindig, from Bitchin Rides, and Danny Koker and Kevin Mack, Mack Daddy from Counts Customs.

It has Unisteer power steering and a fuel injected carburetor. Disc brakes on all fours. It is an automatic with a shift kit. This car is crazy fun to drive.

IT HAS BEEN A PERFECT MATCH EVER SINCE...

My name is Chris Porter and I’ve been a car guy as long as I can remember. I spent most of my time as an import guy. That really started to change after seeing how good the 2012 Mustangs looked and even more so with the aftermarket support and performance.

If you asked me if I thought I’d be writing an article for STANG Magazine for my car this time last year I would’ve said no. If you asked me if I would be writing it about a different car than the 2005 Roush Mustang I had I would’ve said hell no. I previously had my Ford Barra from Australia in a FC Rx7, which required a lot of custom work and heavily modified suspension. I came across a track ready 2012 Mustang and decided to put the two together. It has been a perfect match ever since. The mustang platform is so well sorted and has such robust aftermarket support. Many upgrades can be done at home.

The Mustang still has the stock style 3 link suspension with Kelltrac parts sprinkled in. The 4.0 inline six with a small 76mm turbo has already been 8.15 @ 163 mph with more left in the tank. With the new Circle D upgraded torque converter, I have my eyes on a 7 second pass.

The Mustang community has been amazing and I look forward to chasing my goals with boys!

THIS IS A ONE OF ONE BUILD...

This is a 1965 Fastback Mustang. My brother Mike was battling with brain cancer so I built this car to give him something to look forward to. Our goal was to take it to a car show at the Shelby museum in Boulder, Colorado. I would have to call him every day with pics of what progress I made to reach our goal. Unfortunately he didn’t make it, but I promised him I would finish it. Without this motivation, I don’t think I would ever have finished such a labor intensive project. But I did and it’s been a hit. It’s won all kind of awards. Houston and Dallas Autorama, Ponies in the Smokies, Mustang Week in Galveston and Goodguys.

The car has been completely modified from frame, to suspension, to drive train and every panel. The car is 10 inches wider and 2 inches longer. The motor is 10 inches back and over 1 inch to make a mid engine with a 50/50 weight balance front to back and side to side. It has a 363 small block Ford with a Dart block, AFR heads with a custom built electronic stack fuel injection. It has a Richmond super T-10 road racing trans.

This is a one of one build. It’s my take on what the Mustang would have been if Ford had bought Ferrari. Everything

about the car has been modified. It has 7 different generations of Mustangs blended into one.

IT NOW HAS BECOME MY FULL TIME DRAG CAR...

My name is Bruce Weiss and I’ve had my Mustang since I was 16. I’m now “and I hate to admit this “ 64 years old.

It’s a ‘68 coupe that was my daily through high school. I parked it for many years until about my late 40s. It now has become my full time drag car.

Starting around my mid 40s our local track opened. It went from running a 12.85 at 112 mph to a now best of 8.80s at 149+.

SHE GETS LOVE WHEREVER SHE DRIVES TO...

This is my wife’s 65 stock Mustang that I purchased in 2020. It was basically in boxes and an empty shell with the 200 inline 6 cylinder and 3peed transmission on a pallet.

This was my wife’s dream car ever since she was in high school. One of her best friends had one and they used to do high school girl stuff in it and she always wanted one, so when I found this one I couldn’t pass it up. Even though it would be my first restoration, I wanted to give this to her!

If you asked me if I thought I’d be writing an article for STANG Magazine for my car this time last year I would’ve said no. If you asked me if I would be writing it about a different car than the 2005 Roush Mustang I had I would’ve said hell no. She gets love wherever she drives to. We love this Mustang and love to drive it. We hope to take it to the Sturgis Mustang Rally some day soon.

PHOTO CRED: DEBBIE AND KEN BOONE

After months of sourcing missing parts and prepping the normal issues with an old Mustang, I started putting her back together slowly. Some issues came up with my wife’s health, so I pushed hard to complete the restoration.

In the early spring of 2022, she rolled out of the garage on her own power of the original 78,000 miles motor and transmission. To this day, we drive her everywhere in the spring and summer. We live in the Pacific Northwest - Spokane, Washington to be exact, so winters can be a little dicey but we drive the Mustang to Montana, Idaho, and all over Washington state for car shows, cruises, and for benefits of all kinds.
