STANG Magazine August 2026: Editor's Choice Issue

Page 1

Mustang enthusiasts have asked for a magazine that has no ads, no sales pitches, and no bogus “fillers” to eat up space. They have asked for a magazine that is free, easy to access, and nothing but focused on Mustang pictures and content. They have asked for a magazine produced and written by Mustang owners. They have asked for a magazine that highlights the daily drivers and the average Mustang that is driven and is not a trailer queen. They have asked for the chance to one day have their ride, their group, their club, or their cause to be recognized in print or online. It is our absolute pleasure to meet these standards and to give you STANG Magazine. We hope that both our message and our image will be seen in every Mustang community out there. Thank you Mustang fans and enjoy your ride! - Daniel Ramey, Editor-In-Chief

CLONE

MEMBERS OF THE STANG MAG FAMILY ARE MORE PASSIONATE ABOUT FUN AND INCLUSION THAN THEY ARE THEIR CARS AND THAT SAYS A LOT!

THE ONE YOU COMMIT TO PERFECTING...

This is my 1987 LX TTOP Cobra clone with custom paint, custom interior, and under the hood it has a Dart 363, AFR 220 heads, Ed Curtis cam, and a Novi 2000 supercharger. My Foxbody Mustang “Copperhead” isn’t just another car I’ve owned - it’s the one that became a reflection of everything I’ve learned, built, and dreamed about over the years.

I’ve had six Foxbodys in my life, each one special in its own way, but this one stayed. For fifteen years it has grown alongside me, evolving from a vision into something deeply personal. Every modification tells part of my story - long nights planning upgrades, chasing the perfect look, and refusing to settle for ordinary. This car wasn’t rushed; it was crafted over time, shaped by patience, experience, and a clear vision of what I wanted a Mustang to be.

If you asked me if I thought I’d be writing an article for STANG Magazine for my car this time last year I would’ve said no. If you asked me if I would be writing it about a different car than the 2005 Roush Mustang I had I would’ve said hell no. I loved that car but acquir ing this one reinvigorated my passion for car shows and events!

Out of all six I’ve owned, this gold Foxbody stands alone as the most unique and fully realized expression of my passion, proving that sometimes the right car isn’t the first one you buy, but the one you commit to perfecting.

What makes this Foxbody different is that nothing was left untouched. The custom paint sets it apart before it even starts, the interior was built to match the personality of the car, and the motor was created to deliver the performance I always imagined. The wheels, stance, and sound system were chosen not just for style but for presence - a complete build executed at a level none of my previous Mustangs ever reached.

LIFELONG OBSESSION I NEVER OUTGREW...

I’ve been into Ford Mustangs since I was 13 and it didn’t take long for it to turn into a real passion. By 14, I was already building my first 302, learning hands-on what makes these cars run and why they’re so special.

Over the years, that love only grew. I’ve owned more than 30 Foxbody Mustangs. They’re more than just cars to me; they’re part of my story, my skills, and a lifelong obsession I never outgrew.

This is “Old Glory”, my ‘92 LX. It has a 418 with a Dart ManO-War block, Callies rotating assembly, heavily ported Edelbrock heads, built C4 transmission with trans brake, built 8.8 rear end, all Aerospace brakes, all QA1 suspension, a 12 point cage and around 90 hours of paint labor. It’s been mini tubbed with ladder bars. It also has full Scott Rods aluminum interior pieces with Kirkey seats. It’s still a ASAG car with tag and insurance, fully streetable.

THIS CAR HAS DEFINITELY BEEN A HIGHLIGHT FOR ME...

My passion for Mustangs began many years ago at 16 years old. Owning a 92 Foxbody began the journey for me, and it has continued through seven other Mustangs.

My current car is a 2024 Mustang GT Premium, and was the first known S650 model in my state to be supercharged. Over the past two years, the modifications list has grown, and so has the love for the car.

Currently, performance wise, it has a VMP Stage 4 supercharger, Corsa Performance exhaust upgrades including a double HH pipe, 120 mm throttle body upgrade, Boost-aPump, and several other upgrades to help reach the 916 HP dyno results. Exterior and interior has been reborn with many carbon fiber parts including a double sided Carbon Terminator style hood, custom carbon fiber fenders, and carbon duck-bill spoiler paired with an APR High wing spoiler.

This car has definitely been a highlight for me, as it has opened so many doors to meet some outstanding people. Nothing beats the feel of cruising with a group of car enthusiasts and enjoying the sound the Mustang makes!

THE JOURNEY - 1965 AND 1988 MUSTANGS

MEMBERS OF THE STANG MAG FAMILY ARE MORE PASSIONATE ABOUT FUN AND INCLUSION THAN THEY ARE THEIR CARS AND THAT SAYS A LOT!

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN AND HOW FAR THE JOURNEY HAS COME...

My passion for Mustangs began the moment I graduated high school and received my very first one as a graduation present, June of 1988 - a 1988 5.0 LX Foxbody. That car wasn’t just transportation… it was the start of a lifelong love affair with performance, design, and the unmistakable spirit of American muscle. Since the age of 17, I’ve owned more than 20 different Mustangs, each one representing a different chapter in my journey. I’ve owned the iconic 1964½ that started the Mustang legacy, all the way through to modern powerhouses like the S550 2015. I’ve experienced first hand how the Mustang has evolved while still staying true to its roots.

Over the years, my builds have ranged from bone-stock classics to fully track-ready machines pushing the limits with nitrous oxide, superchargers, and more. Today, that passion still lives strong in my garage with my wife’s 1965 and my 1988 Foxbody - two cars that represent where it all began and how far the journey has come. My next addition will be a 1969 428 Cobra Jet or a 1969 Boss 429 within the next three to four

years. When that happens, I’ll have what I consider the ultimate “Tri-Fecta” - a ’65, an ’88, and a ’69. Three generations of Mustang history that define my journey and my passion.

THEY DEFINITELY HAVE THEIR OWN TYPE OF CROWD...

My name is Jonathan Rigney and I have a 2022 Mustang GT. My passion about Mustangs is they definitely have their own type of crowd that they bring in. Usually it is more like we all come in as a family type atmosphere. We all share the same passion of just enjoying the different set ups and what everyone has done to their Mustangs. I guess it is just like any other car show crowd, but more tightly grouped.

CHUCK DEKETT

I enjoy my Mustang due to it having 1200 hp. It has a 3.0 Whipple with an E85 fuel set up with tune and is fully built underneath with BMR suspension, long tube headers, full double H Corsa Extreme exhaust, and a Palm Beach Dyno tune.

From Texas highways to New Mexico horizons, this is more than a car. It’s heritage, it’s horsepower, and it’s home.

THERE WAS JUST SOMETHING ABOUT THE WAY THEY LOOKED...

My name is Adam Hendrickson and this is my 2024 Mustang GT nicknamed “Five.Oh.Coyote.”

Growing up, I was always drawn to Mustangs. As a kid, I couldn’t help but get excited every time I saw one, whether it was roaring across the screen in a movie or parked quietly in a lot at the grocery store. There was just something about the way they looked and sounded that stuck with me. Even spotting one driving down the road would make me stop and watch until it disappeared from sight. That passion only grew stronger over time. Mustangs became more than just cars to me, they represented power, freedom, and personality. From the classic body styles to the modern designs, I’ve always admired their presence and performance. No matter where I see one, it still gives me that same feeling I had as a kid, reminding me why I fell in love with Mustangs in the first place.

MAKES EVERY DRIVE EXCITING...

This is my 2019 Mustang GT with long tube headers, MBRP exhaust, Hurst short throw shifter, lowering springs, J&L catch can, and a tune by Lethal Performance. As a lifelong GM fan coming from an LS based Foxbody, this car is an entirely different animal in all the right ways. The 5.0L Coyote is such an awesome engine. Whether I’m cruising through town or opening it up on a back road, the responsiveness and raw power makes every drive exciting. The inside blends modern tech with the classic pony car styling. It feels so driver-focused with different drive modes and dash layouts, yet it is still one of the most comfortable interiors I have been in.

My intention for this car was to just have a fun, more modern weekend toy. It has been all of that and more. After this past car show season it has become about meeting other enthusiasts, sharing builds, and enjoying the passion we all have for our rides.

FRANKIE - 1989 MUSTANG LX

MY HEART WENT TO THE MUSTANG...

In the early two thousands, I remember hearing the growling, rumbling, and purring of the classic American 5.0. As a little boy, I was instantly hooked. Growing up in Carson Park in Los Lunas, I have vivid memories of all my dad’s homies rolling up in their ranflas (lowriders) when they got together. They taught me that a car isn’t just a bucket of sheet metal and bolts but a way of life and a physical manifestation of who you are. But while my dad and his people were interested in the low and slow lifestyle, my heart went to the Mustang. Every Mustang I have encountered has its own story. They have given people purpose, some have seen the birth of families, and some have seen people at their lowest. Mine have seen all of these things. My first Mustang was a beater ‘90 Foxbody I had to pull out of a bush to get home. The next one was a 2004 V6 New Edge, a gift from my grandfather. Slow? Yes, but I loved every minute behind the wheel. After losing that one, I found myself with my current Foxbody, a 1989 Cobalt Blue LX sporting a carbureted 302, ripped from a 1985 Crown Vic and an interior donated from a ‘92 GT.

friend “Old Bill”. If it weren’t for him, I would’ve never been able to restore this car to what it is now. Also, thank you to the High Desert Mustang Club for helping an inexperienced Quick Lane technician understand what needs to be done to bring a project to life. I hope that for many more years, I get to stay in the Mustang game and inspire my daughter as she begins her own car journey.

Restoring Frankie has been an adventure. There’s something about finding all of the small quirks in a car that makes each part of it unique. The mistakes of her previous owners who have attempted to make something of her were beginning to surface. From leaving a trail of gas all the way from Las Cruces back to Albuquerque, to finding out the electric fans were wired into the windshield wiper harness, I soon realized how chaotic she was beneath the surface, which inspired me to restore her. This car hasn’t just been a project for me but also for my daughter. At just 6 years old, she is already helping me restore Frankie and is finding her own passion for cars along the way. I would like to give a shout out to my good
