Adventure Camp General Information Welcome to St. Andrews Schools Summer Adventure Camp! We welcome all children grades kindergarten through 8 in our two camps – elementary and middle school. St. Andrew’s Schools’ Summer Adventure Camp curriculum teaches STEAM subjects (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) through fun and exciting experiences for your child every day. Each week will explore a different STEAM subject and theme in a fun and engaging way. In addition to daily activities, enrichment courses which include English and swimming lessons are available at an additional cost. Registration Registration begins February 2020. Please see the link below to register and pay for your classes. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Register online only at standrews.campbrainregistration.com. Phone registrations will not be accepted.

Refund Policy A $25 processing fee applies to all refunds. Refund is based on the date when Extended Learning receives a written notice of cancellation from parents. No refunds the week of camp registered for. Please allow 2–3 weeks to process refunds.

Policies and Procedures Check-in Parents or guardians must sign in their child(ren) with our staff in Ylang Ylang Courtyard. ● ● ● ●
Early Child Care begins at 6 a.m. Children may arrive as early as 7 a.m. for Adventure Camp Children will go to their grade level groups or classes at 7:45 a.m. All camp activities will begin at 9 a.m., so please be sure that your child arrives by then.

Check-out Children can leave as late as 4:00 p.m. unless you have signed up for after camp care. Parents must sign their child out at pick up. Individuals other than parents need to be listed in Camp Brain on the child’s authorized pick-up. For safety reasons, parents and guardians must be prepared to show identification during the first few weeks of Adventure Camp while the staff becomes acquainted with everyone. T-Shirts Summer Adventure Camp tuition includes one t-shirt per child, per week. Students are required to wear this t-shirt while attending camp. Additional t-shirts are available for purchase. Kindergarten Schedule The Kindergarten group has an hour of rest time after lunch unless there is a scheduled field trip or planned activity. Kindergarten students should bring a blanket and a complete change of clothes (labeled and bagged) to the Summer Programs Office. Enrichments St. Andrew’s reserves the right to cancel classes or sections and shift the child to another class or section if not enough students have registered for the class. Food Service Lunch and afternoon snack are included in the camp registration fee. If your child has specific food needs (e.g. gluten-free, Paleo, vegetarian, etc.) you MUST provide your own food each day. Along with regular menu items, we will provide a salad bar or sandwiches as an option. Please be sure to pack a water bottle labeled with your child’s name. Behavior Guidelines Bad behavior at camp will not be tolerated. We provide many fun activities each day, plenty of staff and lots of exercise to keep children busy, but if a child ruins the experience for the other children it will not be tolerated. Any child using profanity or bullying will have a conversation with our Director of Extended Learning Programs, Mrs. Alethia Donathan. If the behavior continues, we will discuss this with the parents and in extreme conditions will ask them not to return to camp. After Camp Care (4–5:30 p.m.) and Late Pick-up Fee If your child is not enrolled in our after camp care program a late fee of $15.00 will be charged to the students account. Payment is due at the time of pick-up. The Adventure Camp coordinator or assistant with staff members will remain present until all students have been picked up by their parents. 7
Camp Accreditation American Camp Association (ACA) accreditation means that your child’s camp cares enough to undergo a thorough peer review of its operation – from staff qualifications and training to emergency management. It means that we have solid policies, staff training and low staff to camper ratios to keep your child safe and happy at camp.

Camp Description Week 1: Marine Life July 27–31 Campers will "dive deep" into knowledge of the beautiful, and sometimes strange, animals and wildlife that can be found in the ocean. We’ll sample nautical and animal-themed crafts all while learning about the ocean that surrounds our planet. Science, technology, arts and mathematics will all be explored the first week while we kick-off camp. We will also be learning about the history of Hawaiʻi and the impact we make on the ocean.

Week 2: Book Week August 3–7 Watch out, we have authors in training! Aside from exploring our favorite well-known authors and books, it’s important to remind children throughout the summer months that books are gateways to new worlds filled with interesting characters and stories. This week will offer children the chance to bring a new world and its characters to life. We’ll also explore different areas of literature – such as comic books, fantasy and nonfiction. Younger children can narrate or draw their stories connecting meaning to pictures and words and use their imagination all throughout the week.

Week 3: Summer Games August 10–14 Campers will take to the field to play familiar sports and learn new ones. We’ll be teaching the rules of the games and the importance of good sportsmanship. Alongside the science behind getting active, students will be able to learn about different countries and cultures revolving around the real-time Summer Olympics. Not only will we be outside during Summer Games, we’ll be using our hands to engineer our very own board games and learning the mathematics behind popular games (such as Monopoly and cards). By playing board and card games, children are encouraged to use their wits and strategy to outplay their opponents. Win, lose, or draw – the point is to have fun!

Today we will introduce and try out the Track & Field events. We’ll also use our STEM principles for an egg drop and more.
We will learn all about the Olympic events with a ball – basketball, golf, handball & tennis.

There are many more events at the summer Olympics and today we’ll learn about the ones with birdies and bows!
Learn about rhythmic gymnastics, taekwondo, pentathlon and hockey this week as we finish our Olympic week!

Week 4: Lights, Camper, Action! August 17–21 We will be exploring theatrical art! Whether the kids love taking center stage or prefer working behind the scenes, they’ll be able to do it all by exploring acting, setting up for a talent show, and even costume design. Your child will create dramatic art throughout the week as well with crayons, paint, stamps, clay and more. Popular movies and pop culture will be explored and used for inspiration.

Interns Our internship class/program is a big part of our camp experience. Interns will learn professional development skills, communication skills, critical thinking and problem solving. Most of all, interns will learn to collaborate with others for the same goals. FRESHMEN INTERNS: Freshmen interns will learn leadership skills from all staff. Freshman interns time at camp will be as a volunteer. SOPHOMORE INTERNS: Sophomore interns will be a volunteer for half the day, learning many skills to use at camp. Sophomore interns will also work as an employee for 4 hours per day. All paychecks will be provided to interns on or about the 10th and 25th of each month.
