From the St Andrew’s College Foundation
The St Andrew’s College Foundation exists to ensure that generosity shown today has a lasting impact on generations of students yet to come. In 2025, the Foundation continued its role as a long-term guardian of the College’s independence, character, and future strength.
The Foundation portfolio closed the year with a total value of $25,113,701, supported by investment income of $2,287,546 and philanthropic contributions of $225,071. These results reflect both disciplined financial management and the continued confidence our donors place in the Foundation’s purpose and stewardship. This performance was achieved against the backdrop of continued volatility and uncertainty in global investment markets.
While financial performance is important, our primary focus remains impact. Every gift entrusted to the Foundation is managed with the future firmly in mind, supporting access to a St Andrew’s education, strengthening the College’s people and facilities, and preserving what makes this school distinctive. Students are at the centre of every decision we make.
The Foundation has welcomed the appointment of Mark Wilson as Rector and is already working closely alongside him as St Andrew’s continues to grow and evolve. This work is guided by a shared commitment to the College’s values and to maintaining its position as New Zealand’s leading independent co educational school. Strong governance, clear leadership, and thoughtful long-term planning remain essential as the College responds to future opportunities and challenges.
Foundation funding continues to support scholarships and initiatives that enhance the long-term well-being of the College. This support ensures that talented students can benefit from a St Andrew’s education regardless of circumstance, while enabling the College to plan strategically and invest with confidence. Reflecting a significant increase in donations in 2025, the Foundation increased its annual contribution from the equivalent of 20 full-time scholarships in 2024 to 25 in 2025.
I would like to sincerely thank all donors who supported the Foundation during 2025. Your generosity opens doors for individual students today and contributes to the enduring strength of the College community for the future.

As I reflect on my first year as Rector at St Andrew’s College, I have been continually reminded of the generosity, connection, and shared purpose that define our community. Grounded in our Presbyterian Christian faith, we are a College that values service, gratitude, and supporting others. These qualities shine through in every act of giving.
A highlight this year has been the outstanding response to our 2025 Annual Giving Appeal, through which our community has contributed $141,370 to install solar panels across the campus. This initiative reflects our commitment to sustainability and thoughtful stewardship. It reduces our carbon footprint, increases our energy resilience, and lowers ongoing costs so more resources can be directed to teaching and learning. It also creates meaningful, real-time learning opportunities for students in Science, technology, and data analysis. This is a practical expression of innovation that will benefit students today, and into the future.
We are deeply grateful to the many donors whose generosity supports scholarships across the College. These gifts provide life-changing opportunities for students to thrive at St Andrew’s, ensuring that a diverse range of young people can benefit from the education, values, and community we offer.
The 2025 Leavers’ Gift is another expression of this spirit of service. Their contribution towards a new display cabinet that will allow us to begin to share more of the College’s museum collection across the campus, highlighting our rich heritage at events and exhibitions. A plaque on the cabinet will acknowledge their generosity and the lasting connection they leave behind.
I would also like to acknowledge the many sponsors and supporters who have partnered with the College throughout the year. Your commitment, whether through events, programmes, or co-curricular initiatives, strengthens the opportunities available to our students and enriches the life of our community.
This year has also seen the beginning of our Strategic Direction 2026–2030, with a strong emphasis on belonging, growth, and well‑being. Philanthropy will continue to support this work as we develop our new Property Master Plan, guiding the College’s evolution with clarity and purpose.

From the Development Office
A New Direction
During 2025, the St Andrew’s College Development Office underwent a strategic shift with the creation of a new role to strengthen alignment between development goals and community connection. The Head of Development and Community Relations role was introduced to address a gap in the College’s programme and to evolve engagement with parents and stakeholders in a post COVID environment.
2025 Annual Giving Appeal
The 2025 Annual Giving Appeal raised $141,370, with support across all four giving tiers, reflecting our community’s strong commitment to sustainability. This funding enabled the installation of solar panels on the roof of the Pre school and Junior Department. Installed over the 2025/26 Christmas break by Harrisons Solar, the project delivers renewable energy for the College, reducing grid reliance, supporting long term cost savings, and providing real world learning data for students.
Westgarth Scholarship
The Westgarth Scholarship continued to grow in impact, with the second recipient, generously supported by John (OC 1960) and Alison Westgarth, commencing Year 9 in 2025 following the inaugural recipient awarded in 2024. A third recipient is scheduled to enter Year 9 in 2026.
Donor Societies
Our donor societies remain a key part of the St Andrew’s College community, and we are grateful to those who support the College through their generosity. This year we welcomed two new donors into the Strowan Club (gifting a total of $10,000), and two donors into our Highland Society (gifting a total of $25,000).
Bequests
Several bequests were received during the year from late Old Collegians around the world. We are forever grateful to them and their families for their generosity and the lasting impact these gifts will have on future generations.
Trust and Foundation Support
Charitable trusts continue to play an important role in advancing St Andrew’s College’s strategic priorities and supporting the long term strength of the campus.
The College also remains grateful for the ongoing work of the St Andrew’s College Foundation, whose stewardship and advocacy play a vital role in connecting the College with trust and foundation partners and strengthening support for the College’s future.

2025 Leavers’ Gift
As is tradition, the Leavers’ present a heartfelt gift to St Andrew’s College each year as a gesture of gratitude and connection to the place that has shaped their time at the College. In 2025, the Year 13 Leavers chose to contribute towards a large display cabinet, located in our Gym 1 foyer, designed to showcase treasured artefacts from the St Andrew’s Museum collection.
This purpose-built cabinet will enhance the College’s ability to share its rich history with the community. A plaque will be affixed to the cabinet in acknowledgement of the generosity of the 2025 Leavers and their support for preserving and celebrating the College’s heritage.
The College is deeply appreciative of the 2025 Leavers and their families for this thoughtful contribution, which will play an important role in safeguarding and sharing St Andrew’s stories for years to come.
Volunteers and Class Parent Programme
St Andrew’s College is deeply grateful for the remarkable commitment of our volunteers, whose generosity of time, energy, and spirit strengthens every part of College life. This dedicated community, made up of current and former parents and caregivers, Old Collegians, staff, and friends of the College, plays an essential role across a wide range of activities and groups. From supporting co-curricular programmes and assisting in the Second-hand Uniform Shop, to contributing to College events, productions, fundraisers, and community initiatives, their involvement enriches the experiences of our students and families.
Volunteers also play a vital part in long-standing College traditions, including groups such as the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), Old Collegians Association, and Ladies Circle. The Ladies Circle also contributed $2000 towards new ottomans in The Green Library and Innovation Centre, enhancing the student study environment and comfort. Their collective efforts help foster connection, uphold our values, and ensure the vibrant, welcoming environment St Andrew’s is known for.
We extend our sincere thanks to every volunteer who has given their time in 2025. Your willingness to contribute, in ways both seen and unseen, makes an immeasurable difference and continues to strengthen the heart of our community.
Pipe Band
The St Andrew’s College Pipe Band contributes to many community events each year. The Band was pleased to support the following community events in 2025.
• StAC Attack 2025, James Hay Theatre, Christchurch Town Hall;
• pipers at various Anzac Day services throughout Canterbury;
• retirement village recitals and performances;
• Hororata Highland Games.
Pipers also played for various special events and functions including reunions, weddings, and funerals.
St Andrew’s College also hosted and sponsored several significant pipe band related events.
• Labour Weekend Silver Chanter Solo Piping Championships;
• Solo Piping local competitions (three);
• Solo Pipe Band Drumming Oceania Championships (two).
The Band relies heavily upon fundraising events to fund pipe band activities. Many volunteers contribute to the Parents and Supporters Committee led by Hamish Foote and Renee Brook. This group contributed significantly to fundraising which enabled each band member to be subsidised for the National Championships in Invercargill.
The Band is proud of its ongoing contribution to the wider community and very grateful to supporters and contributors to the Pipe Band.

Preparatory School
The strength of the Preparatory School community was evident throughout 2025, with parents and caregivers contributing their time to enrich learning across all year levels.
In Years 1–3, students benefited from specialist knowledge shared by two parent pilots who supported the Flight Unit. Their classroom visits brought the curriculum to life, offering real-world insights and answering a wide range of curious questions from our youngest learners.
Parent involvement also played a vital role in the success of numerous trips and events. From Beach Education to the Wigram Air Force Museum, volunteers ensured students were well supported, safe, and engaged. Their presence enabled these experiences to run smoothly and added an invaluable layer of connection between home and school.
Preparatory sports events continued to thrive thanks to the dedication of our parent community. Whether assisting with transport, managing equipment, supervising students, or taking on specific roles, volunteers were instrumental in the delivery of events such as the triathlon, duathlon, Canterbury Primary Athletics, and swimming competitions. Their commitment helped create memorable and meaningful sporting opportunities for all participants.
The generosity of families, sponsors, and the PTA had a significant impact on student opportunities and resources in 2025.
Support for sports was particularly strong. Wolfbrook Property Group provided $1500 to supply t-shirts for the AIMS Games team, helping our athletes represent the College with pride. PAK’nSAVE contributed $5000 towards basketball, enabling the purchase of long sleeve playing gear that enhanced both performance and team identity.
The PTA continued its longstanding tradition of supporting student well-being and enrichment. A contribution of $5000 funded specialised Physical Education and sports equipment, ensuring students had access to high quality resources for skill development and active play. The PTA also generously supported the development and installation of the Pre school’s solar panel project, ensuring healthier and safer standards of practice for our youngest students and their families.
Service to others remains a cornerstone of the St Andrew’s College ethos, and students across the Preparatory School embraced opportunities to give back throughout the year. Year 1–3 students collected Christmas gifts and food parcels for the Chirstchurch City Mission, learning the importance of compassion and community care. During Melanoma Awareness Week, the Get Spotted theme day raised awareness and generated $1000 in donations to support melanoma research and education.
Students and staff joined together to raise funds and awareness for youth mental health, on I Am Hope’s Gumboot Friday. The school community stood united against bullying, promoting kindness and inclusion on Pink Shirt Day.
Students participated in the World Vision 40 Hour Challenge, demonstrating empathy and global citizenship while raising $10,000 College wide for vulnerable communities.

PRINCIPAL OF PREPARATORY SCHOOL
Community Projects
In 2025 we raised $9493.88 for So They Can through their 1Human Race campaign, making a real difference for young women in Africa providing access to education and health care.
The College raised $10,000 for World Vision through the 40 Hour Challenge in 2025.
58 care bags were gifted for Kairos Rescue Food who collect and distribute food to over sixty food charity organisations within Christchurch.
Over 1000 Christmas presents were gifted to the Christchurch City Mission through our Christmas Appeal.
In conjunction with the Sustainability Council a daffodil bulb fundraiser was co-ordinated in preparation for planting and harvesting for a Cancer Society Fundraiser on 29 August. $429 came via tutor donations and $472 through the Middle School Chapel offering.
In Term 4, Year 12 and 13 tutor groups were given a profile and gift request of families and individuals in need within our city. Through the Presbyterian Support gift packages initiative 36 beautiful packages were donated.

PTA
The St Andrew’s College Parent Teachers Association continues to help the school thrive, playing an important role in connecting the community of families to the wider school.
As a registered charity, the PTA derives all its income mainly via the Second-hand Uniform Shop. It also generates a smaller portion of its income from the ever-popular annual Christmas Cake fundraiser which the PTA once again co ordinated and ran. It continues to be well-supported by the community and this year the funds raised were allocated to the Pipe Band. The PTA would like to thank the St Andrew’s College Communications Department for their generous contribution of pro bono work and advertising to the fundraiser.
All proceeds generated via PTA activities are then filtered back into the school to support our young people. Our aim being to work collaboratively to enable every student to be the best versions of themselves across academic, sporting, cultural, music or socially.
To foster a more connected St Andrew’s community, the PTA organised events and assisted the school with volunteers for several other events during the year. A robust and willing group of parents donated their time to ensure that events run smoothly and enjoyably during the year. The small army of volunteers also ensured the Second-hand Uniform Shop ran smoothly each week during the school year enabling school parents to benefit from buying and selling items through the shop.
2025, like previous years, saw the PTA look to assist both specific areas of the school that required additional funding to larger wider school initiatives. During the year, the PTA assisted with donations totalling $54,334, including:
• a new Preparatory School grandstand $6275;
• additional canoe polo team equipment $3000;
• 36 new sporrans for the Pipe Band $12,960;
• 2025 Annual Giving Appeal $10,000;
• two extra large, fixed sunshade umbrellas for the Middle School $21,000;

In 2025, the Old Collegians Association continued its dedication to supporting St Andrew’s College and its students. This year, our alumni generosity has made a tangible impact, most notably through a $30,000 donation towards the College’s newly installed solar panels, an initiative that reflects our commitment to sustainability and the future of the school community.
Beyond sustainable projects, the Association has maintained its ongoing support for students’ extracurricular activities, College events, and reunion gatherings, reinforcing the strong connection between past and present members of the St Andrew’s community.

Co curricular programmes at St Andrew’s College are sustained through the collective commitment of staff and the generosity of parents, volunteers, donors, and sponsors across our community. In 2025, this support provided meaningful assistance to a range of sporting codes, helping to offset the costs of equipment, uniforms, and tournament travel, while parent volunteers continued to play a vital role in programme delivery. We are grateful to all who contributed throughout the year, whether formally recognised or not, and acknowledge the important role this support plays in enriching student life beyond the classroom.
Basketball
We reflect on another outstanding year of basketball at St Andrew’s as the programme continues to grow in both numbers and stature across the entire College. We remain incredibly fortunate to have a wide network of support that allows our ākonga to flourish both within and beyond the College.

Rowing
The St Andrew’s College rowing programme continues to be one of the largest in New Zealand, with 75 competitive rowers and a further 30 students benefiting from our Learn to Row programme. This success is driven by the dedication of our staff, coaches, managers, parent committee, volunteers, supporters, and families.
In Term 1, a special boat naming ceremony was held in front of Strowan House to celebrate the purchase of a Hudson rowing eight and pair from Canada. The eight, named The Legacy, was part funded through the generous parent fundraising efforts of the Cardrona Whisky Legacy Group, established and managed by past parent Sami Chesterton, who also unveiled the name. The pair was named in honour of Old Collegian and recent World Rowing Champion, Ben Taylor (OC 2017), and was unveiled by Ben’s mother, Anna Taylor. Funding for these boats has been made possible through parent fundraising and sponsorship.
Our staff, Hamish Bell, Liam Smith, Georgia Boyes, Kerry Larby, Nicola Proffit, Leisha Connolly, and Evert van Florenstein, provide invaluable support across regattas and training camps. Julian Martel ensures our equipment remains in top condition, dedicating countless hours to maintenance and upkeep.
The rowing programme relies heavily on the commitment of our parent volunteers, co ordinated by the Parent Committee, chaired by Craig Lewis. Their behind the scenes work is critical to our ongoing success. Over the past decade, the committee has also developed a strong sponsorship programme, enabling the acquisition of essential rowing equipment.

St Andrew’s College continues to be one of New Zealand’s leading co-educational independent schools due to the financial contributions and bequests to both the College and the St Andrew’s College Foundation. Income generated from the Foundation’s invested endowment enables the College to meet priority needs and strengthen the educational opportunities it offers, as directed by the Board of Governors.
Strowan Club
The St Andrew’s College donor societies began in 2007 with the establishment of Strowan Club, as a means of thanking our Old Collegians, parents, and friends who have gifted $10,000 or more to St Andrew’s College.
