Message From The CEO
MESSAGE FROM THE CEO I am delighted to share with you the Inspire Education Group’s Annual Report 2023/24 which provides an overview of the achievements and successes of our College group over the past year.
Colleges are anchor institutions in the communities they serve and we are proud to be a key contributor to the social and economic prosperity, growth, innovation and ambition of our region. We continue to maintain our focus on high standards and the delivery of high-quality learning and training for students and employers alike. We are exceptionally proud of our achievements in 2023/24. Our further education student results were once again outstanding, with even more students achieving their qualifications at both Peterborough and Stamford Colleges. University Centre Peterborough also continued its trajectory of success, building upon the Teaching Excellence Framework Silver status awarded last year.

This year saw the launch of a number of exciting new initiatives. We have developed new courses in areas such as green technology, digital skills and higher level apprenticeships. We are particularly thrilled about the upcoming opening of our Centre for Green Technology building at the Peterborough campus. This £13.5M project will provide state-of-the-art facilities for students pursuing careers in electric vehicle technology, retrofit, modern methods of construction and alternative heat and air source technology. The Centre is due to open in May 2025 and we are incredibly excited about the opportunities it will offer. We continue to build our reputation and strengthen our partnerships in Lincolnshire, Peterborough and Cambridgeshire.

Message From The CEO
We are actively engaged with key stakeholders, including the Cambridge and Peterborough Combined Authority, the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Project and the Peterborough City Council Towns Fund, to ensure we are meeting the needs of our communities and contributing to regional economic growth. We have recently joined the Lincolnshire Institute of Technology and we are actively developing our strategic relationship with the NHS in Lincolnshire. Our commercial ventures continue to thrive, with our Gas Training Centre, Stamford Fitness, Anglia Professional Training and College Nursery all playing an important role in our diverse portfolio. We are proud of the high-quality services these ventures provide to employers and the wider community.
This Annual Report demonstrates that the Inspire Education Group continues to go from strength to strength. I am exceptionally proud of our achievements this year, which are a testament to the dedication, commitment, hard work, and skills of our staff and students. MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR OF CORPORATION On behalf of the Board of Governors, I am delighted to present to you the 2023/24 Annual Report for the Inspire Education Group. We have had an amazing year with so many successes and achievements which is indicative of the staff team we have across the Group. Our role as Governors is to challenge and support the IEG leadership team and, through action, ensure that IEG continues to go from strength to strength. The Board sets the educational character of the organisation by setting the vision, mission and values - our aim is to appoint Governors with experience from a wide range of sectors and we currently benefit from expertise in commercial business, education, human resources, organisational development, sustainability, finance and audit, and the voluntary and charity sector. We are excited to see the completion of the new £13.5M Centre for Green Technology and generate growth and change within our curriculum offering for our learners but also local employers, stakeholders and our communities to benefit from. We remain determined to invest in our campuses for the future to ensure our long-term resilience, growth and sustainability.
We will continue to strive for excellence in all that we do, particularly in achieving our key strategic priorities. We will prioritise innovation in our curriculum and delivery methods to ensure we are equipping students with the skills they need for the future. We will continue to invest in our staff and infrastructure to maintain our position as a leading college group. I am confident that with the continued dedication of our staff and the support and partnership of our stakeholders, we will achieve even greater success in the coming year.
As Chair I have been proud to see how everyone pulls together, works with a cohesive and collaborative approach to delivering the best learning experience our students can have. Our staff team of c. 1,300 staff continually demonstrate the core values of IEG, working hard to ensure a positive impact and outcome for our 12,096 students. We have achieved notable successes across several key areas, positioning us as a leading college group.

Overview of the Inspire Education Group
OVERVIEW OF THE INSPIRE EDUCATION GROUP Inspire Education Group (IEG) comprises of Peterborough College, Stamford College and University Centre Peterborough. IEG is a large and successful provider of further and higher education in Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire. Peterborough College is a mediumsized college that offers a wide range of programmes. The main campus is in a residential area half a mile from the city centre and there are three smaller sites in the city centre, which deliver programmes in Media and Journalism, Employability and Basic Skills and Accountancy and Legal Services. Stamford College is located in the south-west corner of Lincolnshire. The College’s catchment extends into five neighbouring local authorities: Rutland, Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, Leicestershire and Northamptonshire. IEG delivers a comprehensive portfolio of programmes designed to meet the diverse needs of individuals and employers. Our offerings include: • A Levels: Providing a strong academic foundation for higher education. • Vocational and Technical Programmes: Equipping students with industryrelevant skills and knowledge. • T Levels: Offering high-quality technical education with employer involvement. • Apprenticeships: Combining on-the-job training with structured learning. • Higher Education: Delivering a range of degree-level programmes through University Centre Peterborough.

• Professional Training Courses: Tailored to meet specific industry needs and enhance workforce skills. IEG also prioritises adult learning, offering essential English and maths skills development, as well as short employability courses for the long-term unemployed. Additionally, our specialist commercial training, exemplified by the Stamford Gas Centre, provides high-quality, industrystandard training for local, regional and national gas and plumbing industry employers. This breadth of delivery ensures that IEG addresses key skills priorities across various sectors and provides clear pathways for learners at all stages of their career development. University Centre Peterborough offers more than 50 different degree level programmes, providing a diverse selection of degrees and professional courses designed to meet the workforce needs. University Centre Peterborough is an approved partner institution of The Open University so our degrees have both national and international recognition. University Centre Peterborough has been accredited with silver status by the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), which is a testament to the high quality of teaching and student experience offered.

Strategic Priority 1: ACHIEVE EXCELLENCE
In 2023/24, a full curriculum review strengthened alignment with local, regional and national priorities, ensuring students progress confidently into careers, employment, or higher education. Mapped pathways provide clear routes from every starting point, equipping students with the skills and experiences employers value. Curriculum continues to support strong learning outcomes for students. Education and Training outcomes were in line with last year’s 88.2%, remaining well above national averages. Exceptional performance was also seen in GCSE English, where our students surpassed national benchmarks placing IEG in the top 20% of General Further Education (GFE) colleges for those achieving a Grade 4 and above. A Level outcomes remained strong, with a 97.6% pass rate and high-grade achievement rising by 11% to 41.5%. University Centre Peterborough performed above the national benchmark, reflecting strong teaching and student support. Apprenticeship achievement rose to 63.3%, a 10% increase, driven by curriculum improvements, stronger employer partnerships and better progression tracking. T Level development continues to lead technical education. Employment-focused pathways have expanded, providing more real-world experience. ESOL and SEND Supported Internships have grown, widening access to education and work. Developing literacy and numeracy skills remain above national benchmarks. The curriculum continues to evolve, embedding emerging industry skills, employerled opportunities and digital innovation to prepare students for lifelong career success.

Strategic Priority 2: FINANCIAL SUSTAINABILITY
IEG remains committed to robust financial management, ensuring long-term sustainability and investment in our educational mission. In 2023/24, the Group generated a surplus of £0.304M, compared to £5.710M in the previous year. It’s important to note that the 2022/23 surplus was significantly influenced by a revaluation of Local Government Pension Scheme assets and liabilities, along with a higher education building transfer. Our core operating performance, however, showed a positive shift, with a surplus of £0.865M, contrasting with a deficit of £0.863M in 2022/23. The lower-than-targeted surplus in 2023/24 was primarily attributable to substantial growth in 16-19 student enrolments, particularly in English and maths, driven by grade boundary adjustments. This resulted in increased teaching and examination costs. Additionally, a competitive pay award was implemented to address the exceptional cost of living inflation, impacting expenditure.

Despite these challenges, IEG maintains a strong financial position, with accumulated reserves of £41.273M and cash equivalent investments of £12.428M. We acknowledge our significant reliance on the ESFA and CPCA for funding, which constituted 80% of our income in 2023/24. Importantly, IEG achieved an ‘Outstanding’ financial health rating from the ESFA’s Annual Finance Record, affirming our sound financial management and strategic planning.

Strategic Priority 3: VALUE OUR PEOPLE
We recognise our colleagues as the cornerstone of our success, and we remain dedicated to fostering a supportive and empowering work environment. This year, we made significant strides in enhancing staff satisfaction, evidenced by marked improvements in our internal surveys. Notably, staff turnover remained below our strategic threshold, at 16.8%, reflecting strong retention, particularly among new employees, where we achieved a 90% retention rate.

We invested £510,000 in professional development, leveraging the apprenticeship levy to support staff growth. Our leadership development programmes, including Emerging Leader and Management Development, were highly successful. We also enhanced our non-pay benefits, providing comprehensive discounts and memberships. Our commitment to health and safety remains unwavering, with no departments receiving red ratings in audits. Our ongoing investment in our people ensures a valued and empowered workforce, driving IEG's continued success. We value our work with Union colleagues and have two vibrant Employee Communication Groups. We are committed to working positively and collaboratively to make IEG a great place to work.

Strategic Priority 4: GROWTH
IEG is dedicated to strategic growth and diversification, aligning our provision with local, regional and national skills demands. In 2023/24, we achieved significant progress, demonstrating our adaptability and responsiveness. Our student destination outcomes are strong, with 95% of 16-19 year olds and 87% of adult learners progressing to further study or employment. We experienced substantial growth in full-time 16-18 student enrolments, adding 433 students. Our curriculum strategies are closely aligned with regional skills priorities, as detailed in our comprehensive Accountability Statement. We maintain strong collaborative partnerships with the Greater Lincolnshire LEP and the Cambridge and Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA), ensuring our programmes address specific industry needs. Our commercial activities showed improved financial performance despite the challenging inflationary climate, contributing to regional employment opportunities. The delivery of multiple mathematics programmes further highlights our commitment to addressing critical skills gaps. IEG's second Accountability Statement reinforces our transparency and commitment to regional economic impact, underscoring our role as a vital contributor to local prosperity.

Strategic Priority 5: POSITIVE IMPACT
IEG made significant strides in environmental sustainability, achieving substantial energy efficiency improvements. Key initiatives included facility consolidation, LED lighting upgrades across campuses and boiler replacements. Construction commenced on a net-zero Green Technology Centre in Peterborough. Further enhancements involved improved insulation, window replacements and food waste reduction measures, demonstrating a holistic approach to carbon emission reduction.
Our Stamford campus’s Modern Methods of Construction Centre also achieved international acclaim, winning an International Building and Construction Green Apple Award in 2024, highlighting our leadership in sustainable construction practices. Furthermore, IEG successfully maintained its Investors in the Environment (IIE) Green Award, demonstrating the tangible impact of our ongoing improvement efforts in reducing our environmental footprint and promoting sustainability. These accolades reflect our unwavering dedication to providing high-quality education while championing environmental stewardship. IEG actively participated in the Peterborough Citizens Accountability Assembly, engaging with local leaders and highlighting their commitment to social justice through initiatives like the ‘It’s Not Banter’ campaign and anti-racism training. This involvement reinforces IEG’s dedication to creating inclusive environments and collaborating for a more equitable community.
IEG’s dedication to excellence and sustainable practices has been recognised through several prestigious awards. In 2023, we were honoured with a Green Apple International Silver Award for Environmental Best Practice in Education and Training, underscoring our commitment to integrating environmental responsibility into our educational programmes. This commitment was further validated in 2024, as we received an International Gold Award in the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) category, recognising our impactful initiatives in reducing our carbon footprint and equipping learners with green technologies.

EXCELLING NATIONALLY AMONGST GENERAL FURTHER EDUCATION COLLEGES Our students achieve strong results in English and maths compared to national averages, reflecting the quality of our provision. The National Achievement Rates Tables, published annually by the Department for Education, highlight their strong performance nationally. IEG has ranked: •
16th nationally for 16–18-year-old learners on study programmes at General Further Education (GFE) colleges, meaning IEG’s largest student cohort is among the top 10% of colleges across England.

25th out of 156 GFE Colleges nationally for all age groups on education and training programmes, placing the group in the top 20% for the second consecutive year.

At University Centre Peterborough, we are dedicated to fostering a wellrounded education, employing innovative teaching methodologies and offering comprehensive student support services which has significantly contributed to this exceptional outcome.

OSCAR CUTMORE, INSPIRE EDUCATION GROUP’S STUDENT OF THE YEAR Oscar Cutmore, Level 3 Creative Media Student has earned a scholarship to study Filmmaking at Escape Studios in London. Former Inspire Education Group Student of the Year, entered his animations into the UAL Origins Creative 2024 exhibition and won multiple awards, including Best Visual Effects at the Eastern Europe Film Festival.
PETERBOROUGH COLLEGE SUPPORTED INTERNSHIP STUDENT SECURES PAID EMPLOYMENT AT THE HOLIDAY INN Amelia Bollons, who completed a Supported Internship at Peterborough College, has secured paid employment at the Holiday Inn. Our Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) team was invited to the Holiday Inn where Amelia proudly showed them her day-to-day tasks and told them what it was like to be part of the front-of-house team.

OUR PARTNERS Our strategic partnerships are vital in enriching our curriculum and enabling us to effectively serve our communities. Each partner brings specialised expertise, allowing us to offer a wide array of programmes, from 16-19 studies to adult skills and Apprenticeships. This targeted, niche training addresses specific employer needs and ensures our learners are well-prepared for their next steps.
• Eastern School of Performing Arts (ESPA) in Stamford delivers full-time 16-18 study programmes and higher education programmes. • Addict Dance Academy, based in Leicester, delivers higher education programmes and 16-18-year programmes.
• GLADCA and Aspire Sporting Academy are key strategic partners offering adult education programmes. • Inspire+ deliver Apprenticeships in school sports.
We celebrated the fantastic work of our IEG partners at the IEG Student Awards with two Partner Student of the Year Awards going to Shaun Newson (ESPA) and Arfang Chorr (GLADCA). Shaun approaches his training with boundless enthusiasm and is fully dedicated to every aspect of his work. Already receiving offers to study musical theatre from prestigious performing arts colleges in the UK, this student serves as an inspiration to both teachers and peers. Aspire focuses on supporting unemployed adults who face significant barriers to entering the job market. Through tailored School Support Programmes, Aspire helps individuals develop CVs, improve interview techniques and access live job application opportunities. The academy aims to boost confidence, enhance industry knowledge and provide essential skills for professional success. Aspire’s approach not only prepares learners for employment but also fosters a passion for lifelong learning and career development. ADDICT The 2023/24 academic year marked the conclusion of our partnership with Addict Dance Academy. The final year Higher National Diploma (HND) students from the 2022/23 cohort successfully completed their professional dance training. EASTERN SCHOOL OF PERFORMING ARTS (ESPA) The Eastern School of Performing Arts (ESPA) offers a dynamic and specialised training at Level 2, 3, and 4. ESPA distinguishes itself by prioritising not only qualifications but also the holistic development of each performer. Graduates pursue diverse paths, including theatre school, conservatories, dance academies university and employment. ESPA’s rigorous, excellence-driven courses demand commitment and dedication. In return, students receive professional, highquality teaching and support to reach their full potential. Level 3 courses in Musical Theatre and Dance are designed to meet the needs of aspiring performing arts professionals, fostering confidence and ambition.
IEG partners with inspire+, a Lincolnshirebased sports and education charity, to deliver a range of education and sportbased Apprenticeships. These include Level 2 Community Activator Coach, Level 3 Teaching Assistant and Level 4 Sports Coach. Inspire+ Apprenticeships are job training programmes that allow individuals to learn and develop new skills while working in schools. The programme combines on-thejob training with practical sessions and independent learning, providing the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed for careers in PE, sports, or as a teaching assistant. Practical training is delivered by an experienced education team that provides support throughout the Apprenticeship, including the End Point Assessment. Many inspire+ Apprentices continue their employment in the education sector or pursue higher education. GLADSTONE DISTRICT COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION (GLADCA) GLADCA is a vital community hub in Peterborough that specialises in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). With a team of qualified and experienced tutors, GLADCA helps learners acquire essential English language skills for independent living, career opportunities and community participation. Learners develop a comprehensive understanding of English, including reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Many learners progress from Entry Level to Level 2 English and go on to further or higher education. GLADCA also provides education and training in employability and IT skills to help learners improve their lives and succeed.

Inspire Catering Services delivers comprehensive catering solutions across the Group’s campuses through five strategically located outlets. These outlets offer a diverse menu, encompassing freshly prepared, homemade meals alongside popular high-street brands, Costa and Starbucks. In 2023/24, the catering outlets served on average 1,850 staff and students a day, with the service aiming to deliver food and drink as close to cost as possible. Demonstrating a commitment to student wellbeing and accessibility, the group increased bursary support, providing eligible students with weekly allowances between £12.00 and £21.00. Furthermore, a universal free breakfast initiative ensures all staff and students can have access to a nutritious start to their day.
Stamford Gas Training (SGT) provides accredited gas engineer training programmes, offering a clear pathway to a rewarding and in-demand career. SGT delivers comprehensive, industry-standard training that equips adult learners with the essential skills and knowledge required to achieve Gas Safe registration. The centre’s experienced instructors deliver a blend of theoretical and practical instruction, ensuring graduates are fully prepared to excel in the field. In 2023/24, demonstrating its commitment to excellence, SGT achieved a total revenue exceeding £250,000, a pass rate exceeding 80% and completed over 230 bookings. The training service prioritises career development, offering ongoing support and guidance to facilitate successful entry into the gas engineering profession.
Anglia Professional Training (APT) is based in Peterborough and is a fully accredited AAT exam and study centre. APT offers the full range of Accountancy courses and Apprenticeships from Foundation Level (Level 2) to Professional Level (Level 7). APT is also accredited with CILEX, CMI and ICB to offer courses and Apprenticeships in Legal Services, Management and Leadership, and Payroll.

Stamford Fitness is a premier private fitness centre dedicated to providing industry-leading fitness classes and fostering a vibrant community and in the 2023/24 financial year, generated a turnover exceeding £100,000. With over 250 members, offering a diverse range of programmes designed to meet the fitness goals of individuals at all levels. As a leading partner for local sports clubs in the area, Stamford Fitness provides state-of-the-art facility hire, supporting athletic development and community engagement.

Based on the Peterborough College grounds at Park Crescent, Parcs Nursery was awarded ‘Good’ in all four areas of the inspection by officials from Ofsted who visited in January 2023. The nursery can accommodate 72 children per session, with three sessions daily from 8:00am to 6:00pm. Currently, there are 81 children registered at Parcs Nursery and 24 members of childcare staff. The nursery has offered high-quality childcare in Peterborough for babies and young children, aged three months to five-years-old, for 37 years.

Katie’s winning entry portrays her grandfather and his partner, seated at their family farm. “I initially found the brief of ‘Home’ challenging, but I soon grasped an understanding of how I wanted to present this. To me, home is where your family is. I have fond memories of spending time at the farm when I was little, and it makes me feel safe.”

At the same time, students have successfully moved into employment and Apprenticeships, using the skills and experience they developed with us.

Almost one in three students achieved high grades, reflecting their hard work and the quality teaching, guidance and curriculum design that underpin their success. Our very own Motor Vehicle lecturers recently completed Level 2 and Level 3 Electric/Hybrid Vehicle training, provided by Autotech Training. Our lecturers now have the knowledge and skills required to work safely on electric/hybrid vehicles whilst carrying out diagnostic, testing and repair activities. This will greatly benefit our Motor Vehicle students, who will now be trained by qualified technicians to repair and maintain electric/hybrid vehicles.

Former Level 3 Air and Defence Public Services student, Callum Thacker, has joined the Royal Air Force (RAF) as a Mover. Responsible for planning and executing the movement of RAF personnel and equipment by road, rail, air and sea, the role offers Callum the exciting opportunity to travel the world. “I enjoyed the adventure training at the Army Cadets base in Wales, which put our skills and character to the test – we even abseiled off cliffs! The lecturers gave me so much support with my initial RAF application and helped me achieve peak physical fitness to meet the RAF’s requirements.”

INSPIRE EDUCATION GROUP’S ANNUAL STAFF CONFERENCE CELEBRATES ENABLING SUCCESSFUL FUTURES THROUGH INNOVATION The Inspire Education Group Staff Conference was a resounding success, fostering a sense of unity, inspiring innovation and showcasing the brilliance within the IEG community. Over 900 IEG staff members gathered for their annual staff conference, held at the Kingsgate Conference Centre in Peterborough on 1st July 2024. The conference, themed “Enabling Successful Futures Through Innovation”, provided a platform for IEG’s dedicated staff to connect, learn and celebrate their collective achievements. The conference featured inspiring keynote presentations from leading experts in their respective fields. Dr Paul Redmond, a leading expert in generational theory shared his insights on how to engage and motivate Boomers, Gen X, Millennials and Gen Z, helping organisations and professionals acquire the skills and knowledge to navigate today’s multi-generational workplace. Suzie Lavington, a best-selling author delivered a captivating presentation on “How to Find Your Brave”. Suzie’s engaging style and practical advice resonated with the audience, providing actionable steps to enhance personal and professional success by being open to doing things differently.

CELEBRATING STAFF ACHIEVEMENTS The conference reflected IEG’s unwavering belief in the potential of its staff to make a positive impact. The event served as a reminder of the collective brilliance within the IEG community and the importance of nurturing and celebrating the exceptional contributions of IEG staff. The annual Staff IEG Awards ceremony honoured outstanding individuals and teams who have demonstrated excellence in their roles, gone above and beyond expectations, and made a significant impact on student success.
IEG’S WELLBEING WEDNESDAY Inspire Education Group recognises the importance of prioritising the wellbeing of its staff and is committed to creating a supportive and inclusive work environment. Wellbeing Wednesday is an annual initiative as part of the staff development week that encourages all staff to prioritise their physical and mental health, promoting self-care and fostering a positive work-life balance. The initiative focuses on the 5 Ways to Wellbeing, an NHS framework designed to enhance overall wellbeing by encouraging individuals to connect, be active, take notice, learn and give. With over 40 planned activities on the day that included; Badminton, Burghley House tour, Mindfulness, Crochet, Paddleboarding and a Wellbeing Tea and Chat session. By implementing initiatives like Wellbeing Wednesday, Inspire Education Group is taking proactive steps to promote the wellbeing of its staff and create a thriving and productive work environment where staff feel valued.
ENHANCING WELLBEING AND MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT The wellbeing of our staff and students is a crucial aspect of our organisation’s success, and we are committed to providing comprehensive support to foster a healthy and productive environment. In 2023/24, IEG were proud to have received an AoC Beacon Award and was commended for our practice for mental health and wellbeing.
We continue our proactive approach to mental health and wellbeing, fully implementing a range of initiatives to promote the overall wellbeing of our community and commitment to the AoC Mental Health and Wellbeing Charter. One notable initiative is free breakfast for all staff and students, providing a positive start to the day and enhancing overall physical and mental health. Additional to our Menopause pledge in the workplace, we also demonstrated in 2023/24 our commitment to supporting staff by signing up to be an Endometriosis friendly employer scheme that confirms our commitment to developing a work environment and culture that enable employees with endometriosis and menstrual health conditions to thrive at work.

IMPACT ON OUR EMPLOYERS PARTNERSHIP WORKING FOR SKILLS AND EMPLOYMENT One of our key focuses is partnership working with employers to ensure that our education and training programmes align with the skills needs of the region and beyond. We continue to work closely with businesses and organisations to develop and deliver programmes that prepare young people and adults for fulfilling employment opportunities. IEG works effectively with both devolved (Cambridge and Peterborough Combined Authority) and non-devolved administrations (Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership) to support their strategic skills plans in their regions. This brings many opportunities to secure capital and revenue funding to deliver the skills provision for the local communities and have a strong track record of delivering successful projects to meet student, employer and stakeholder needs.

MODERN METHODS OF CONSTRUCTION CENTRE (MMC) Stamford College’s Modern Methods of Construction Centre (MMC), sponsored by Allison Homes, which provides state-ofthe-art learning and teaching resources for students studying plumbing, carpentry, brickwork and electrical installation, has won an International Building and Construction Green Apple Environment Award, following a prestigious ceremony at St. Paul’s Cathedral. John Anderson, Group Chief Executive at Allison Homes explained, “This country is chronically short of homes – not just homes in general but homes that are actually affordable. Our ambition is to grow the business to around 2500 homes per year, so the association with Stamford College and the MMC building is a very obvious thing for us to do. We have 17 Apprentices working within Allison Homes currently, demonstrating our commitment to growing the capabilities and skills necessary for an industry that is sorely lacking.”
SKILLS CAREER EVENT, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH SOUTH LINCOLNSHIRE GROUP TRAINING ASSOCIATION Nurturing the skillset of tomorrow’s workforce, Stamford College hosted a Construction and Engineering Skills Career Event for local school students, in partnership with South Lincolnshire Group Training Association. Steve Taylor, Group Training Manager for South Lincolnshire Group Training Association, said, “These free-to-attend events are a great example of what effective working relationships can achieve. We have received fantastic support, sponsorship and goodwill from microbusinesses, through to large employers, and of course further education providers and training companies. We have once again provided an excellent experience for school children within our region.”

At Codem Composites, a specialist in advanced composite solutions, Andrew Pakes MP and Rachel Nicholls met with Managing Director Kevin Doherty to learn about the company’s apprenticeship journey and its commitment to investing in future talent. “Apprentices have been an integral part of Codem’s growth and recruitment strategy for many years. The expansion and development of advanced materials have provided a perfect platform to train a new breed of engineers.
“The construction industry is facing a skills gap, and we’re excited to partner with the College to bridge it. Working with enthusiastic young people is refreshing, and the College’s events, like last year’s skills event, have been instrumental in connecting us with talented engineers. GBSG is passionate about attracting new talent. Our industry is aging, and technological advancements demand a younger workforce.

IMPACT ON OUR COMMUNITY IEG COLLABORATES WITH NHS AND PETERBOROUGH CITY COUNCIL TO DELIVER LOCAL SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT INITIATIVE IEG collaborated with the NHS and Peterborough City Council to successfully implement a Local Supported Employment initiative. The scheme has been providing distinctive opportunities for young adults with learning difficulties to kickstart their careers. Since 2022, a total of 10 students from Peterborough College and Stamford College have benefitted from the internships. This includes Jack Batty and Amelia Bollons, who have both gained permanent employment after completing the programme. Jack is now employed in the NWAFT Estates and Facilities Team, whilst Amelia is now working front-of-house at the Holiday Inn in Peterborough.
The AoC Regional Equity Exchange provided a collaborative platform for FE professionals to reflect on their experiences, share successes and inspire each other to foster inclusive learning environments. By creating a psychologically safe space, the event encouraged participants to challenge ideas, support one another and drive collective innovation.
IEG CHAMPIONS SOCIAL JUSTICE AT PETERBOROUGH CITIZENS ASSEMBLY Inspire Education Group (IEG) was proud to be involved in the Peterborough Citizens Accountability Assembly at Queen Katherine Academy. The event provided a fantastic opportunity for our staff to connect with local decision-makers and influencers to discuss key issues affecting our city, including upcoming local campaigns and elections.

PETERBOROUGH COLLEGE PARTNERS WITH UP THE GARDEN BATH TO PROMOTE SUSTAINABLE GREEN INNOVATION Peterborough College’s plumbing department worked alongside the awardwinning Community Interest Company, ‘Up the Garden Bath’, to install 5 upcycled bathtub planters in Peterborough. These planters, creatively crafted from upcycled bathtubs, not only enhance the city’s aesthetics but also promote responsible and eco-friendly choices. This collaboration not only supports environmental conservation but also offers students at Peterborough College hands-on experience in repurposing materials, aligning with the institution’s mission to foster an environmentally aware community.
BRANCHING OUT: STAMFORD COLLEGE STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN COMMUNITY TREE PLANTING PROJECT In a powerful demonstration of community spirit, our Vocational Studies students were proud to represent Stamford College and the wider Inspire Education Group in supporting the recent Stamford Town Council tree planting project at Stamford Cemetery. Thanks to a generous grant from Lincolnshire County Council, which funded the purchase of 800 tree saplings, Councillor Amanda Wheeler coordinated two tree planting sessions, uniting individuals from local schools, Stamford Scouts and the local public.

THE YEAR IN HEADLINES: OUR HIGHLIGHTS AND ACHIEVEMENTS UNIVERSITY CENTRE PETERBOROUGH RECOGNISED AMONGST TOP UK UNIVERSITIES University Centre Peterborough was accredited with Silver status by the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), a testament to the high quality of teaching and student experience offered by the city’s 15-year-longstanding university. The TEF panel concluded that “highly effective teaching, assessment, and feedback practices that support students’ learning progression and attainment, are embedded throughout University Centre Peterborough.”

GROUND-BREAKING CEREMONY MARKS MILESTONE FOR PETERBOROUGH COLLEGE’S CENTRE FOR GREEN TECHNOLOGY (CGT) City and community leaders celebrated the start of construction on the Centre for Green Technology at Peterborough College, an innovative project supported by funding from the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority (£2.471M from Transforming Cities Fund, £400,000 from Local Growth Fund) and Peterborough City Council (£1.9M from Towns Fund).
INSPIRE EDUCATION GROUP MARKETING TEAM RECOGNISED AT COLLEGE MARKETING NETWORK FE FIRST AWARDS 2024 The Marketing department at Inspire Education Group was recognised at the College Marketing Network’s FE First Awards 2024. The prestigious event, highly regarded in the sector, is the only one of its kind to solely celebrate marketing in the further education arena and IEG’s very own were honoured to receive three awards.
IEG BECOMES FIRST FE COLLEGE TO ACHIEVE RAINBOW FLAG AWARD FROM THE KITE TRUST The Kite Trust awarded the prestigious Rainbow Flag Award to IEG, marking a significant milestone as it became the first FE College to receive this honour. PIONEERING NEW T LEVEL QUALIFICATIONS AT IEG TO SUPPORT EVOLVING INDUSTRY IEG is proudly pioneering 13 new T Level qualifications designed in collaboration with leading local employers including the NHS, Anglian Water, McCain UK and Allison Homes. These partnerships reflect a shared commitment to innovation and staying abreast of industry trends ensuring IEG is bridging the gap between classroom and industry and training students with the skills businesses across our region need. PETERBOROUGH COLLEGE WELCOMES PETER KYLE, SHADOW SECRETARY OF STATE FOR SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY AND ANDREW PAKES, LABOUR’S CANDIDATE FOR PETERBOROUGH Peterborough College hosted a visit from Peter Kyle, the Shadow Secretary of State for Science and Technology. The visit showcased the College’s ongoing projects, emphasising its commitment to innovation and educational excellence in the East of England. Following the meeting, the delegation undertook a visit to the new Centre for Green Technology’s construction site. Roger Bancroft, Site Manager from Clegg Construction, guided the tour, showcasing the latest development work on the cladding and insulation.

Working alongside CEO Rachel Nicholls, Julia will spearhead our curriculum’s strategic development, focusing on the dynamic needs of our learners and the skills needs of employers. Her initiatives will guarantee our curriculum evolves to stay future-focused, remains fully inclusive and offers accessible skills training and education for everyone. IEG AND ROLEC PARTNERSHIP TO DRIVE LOCAL SKILLS DEVELOPMENT IN THE ELECTRIC VEHICLE SECTOR In a notable move to support the electric vehicle charging industry, IEG and Rolec will partner to meet the growing demand for skilled professionals in the EV sector by combining IEG’s educational expertise with Rolec’s cutting-edge technology. As part of their collaboration, IEG and Rolec will focus on curriculum development, hands-on training and industry placements for students. This initiative aims to provide students with real-world experience and practical skills that are applicable to the EV charging industry.

STUDENT SUCCESS T LEVEL HEALTH STUDENTS CELEBRATE SUCCESSFUL PLACEMENTS AT PETERBOROUGH CITY HOSPITAL Our T Level Health students were presented with certificates to commemorate their final placement day at Peterborough City Hospital, with Rachel Nicholls, joining in the celebrations. Peterborough College student, Bella Gillick, thoroughly enjoyed the industry placement, sharing, “Practising at Peterborough City Hospital gave me a real insight into what the working world is like. I specialised in medicine for the elderly, witnessing observations, emergency bells and board meetings. It’s given me such a wide scope of knowledge, opening up lots of career pathways.”
Since the launch of the Air and Defence College, hundreds of students have graduated, taking advantage of the unique employer-led programme that has paved the way for RAF Basic Recruit Training, apprenticeships, jobs, and further education in the aerospace sector.

RAF CRANWELL GRADUATION HIGHLIGHTS SUCCESS OF PETERBOROUGH AND STAMFORD COLLEGES’ AIR AND DEFENCE STUDENTS The remarkable achievements of students from Peterborough and Stamford College’s Air and Defence College, took centre stage at a graduation ceremony held at RAF College Cranwell in Lincolnshire.
Oscar Cutmore commented, “I was really excited to have two award nominations, and being here with my mum and aunt, who are so proud, means a lot to me. I feel very grateful for winning Student of the Year! College has been fantastic – great people, brilliant lecturers, and I’ve won awards! I am glad I went to that Open Event, it led me right here, and now I am progressing to study BA (Hons) in The Art of Visual Effects at Escape Studios in London!”
The event saw senior RAF officials, aerospace business leaders, and proud families in attendance, as each Air and Defence student was awarded their graduation certificate.

FUTURE ENGINEERS SHINE IN OPENREACH CHALLENGE AT PETERBOROUGH COLLEGE
UNIVERSITY CENTRE PETERBOROUGH GRADUATE ESTABLISHES THEATRE COMPANY
Peterborough College and Openreach teamed up to provide Level 3 Engineering students with a unique learning experience - the Openreach Challenge. This year, students tackled a real-world scenario involving damaged telecom infrastructure in East Anglia caused by severe weather.
Rae Nase, a First-Class graduate from University Centre Peterborough and former Peterborough College student, has cofounded the theatre company ‘I Sense Bad Theatre’. This venture aims to create a supportive environment where individuals can explore their creativity and escape daily challenges. “My university journey, with its mix of challenges and triumphs, equipped me with the skills and confidence needed to embark on this entrepreneurial path.”
PETERBOROUGH COLLEGE BOYS FOOTBALL ACADEMY WIN THIRD CONSECUTIVE LEAGUE TITLE Peterborough College erupted in celebration as its Boys’ Football team clinched a three-peat championship victory in the ECFA East Men’s Championship A. This remarkable feat marks the team’s third consecutive year reigning supreme in the league, solidifying their status as a powerhouse within the competition.

RESULTS DAY 2024: STUDENTS SHARE THEIR EXPERIENCES WITH BBC NEWS Students across IEG celebrated Results Day, with 478 students from Stamford and Peterborough College progressing to university study, following exceptional A Level and Diploma results. 1 in 2 students at IEG celebrated high grades of A* to B in A Levels and D*D*D* to DDM equivalent in Diploma equivalent qualifications. Among the successful students receiving their results was Alex Potts who achieved 3 A* grades in Biology, Maths and Chemistry and was accepted to the University of Manchester to study Medicine in September.
83% OF GRADUATES ACHIEVE 2:1 OR ABOVE AT UNIVERSITY CENTRE PETERBOROUGH The recent results highlight University Centre Peterborough’s successful efforts in creating a supportive and engaging learning environment, marking a 3% increase on last year’s classifications. University Centre Peterborough has excelled in the latest National Student Survey, securing 42nd place in the rankings. This achievement positions us as the highest-placed college-based higher education provider in the East of England and the only one within the top 50.
Leila Poyser secured AAA in English, Media and Law and is now heading to the University of East Anglia to study Speech and Language. Students who have studied Diploma courses also collected their results. Equivalent in value to A Levels, Diplomas are accepted by 95% of universities, giving our students an excellent start to their future careers. Mai Frost achieved D*D*D* in Art and Design, and is now off to study BA Technical Arts for Theatre and Performance at the University of the Arts London. Patrick Wadsworth achieved DDD and is now going on to study Physics with Astrophysics at Keele University. Sinead Abbott achieved D*D*D* in Music, and is now going on to study Music Performance at Goldsmiths, University of London.
SKILLS FOR WORK AND LIVING STUDENT TRIUMPHS AT SPECIAL OLYMPICS CITY OF HULL SWIMMING GALA Stamford College Student, Chloe Burford, represented Peterborough at the recent Special Olympics City of Hull Swimming Gala, soaring to the podium in multiple categories. Chloe’s stellar performance earned her a gold medal for backstroke, and silver for both the front crawl and relay events, proudly presented to her by Paralympic Gold Medallist, Ellie Simmonds OBE.

LEADING THE WAY: INNOVATION AND OUR FUTURE PLANS At Inspire Education Group, we are committed to fostering an innovative and excellence-driven culture that permeates every aspect of our work. As a Group, we are on an exciting journey of continued development, digital innovation and growth to meet the evolving needs of our students, staff, employers, and communities. Some of our development plans for 2023/34 include: INVESTMENT IN INFRASTRUCTURE During 2023/24 IEG continued our commitment to invest in our infrastructure. an investment that underpins our educational excellence ensuring our students and staff benefit from the highest quality learning environments, have access to leading edge technology to ensure we create a modern, agile and supportive environment to learn and develop.
Examples of this include the investment in dedicated Google Hubs at each of our campuses to deliver staff and student training and the installation of a Virtalis Wall, a state-of-the-art 3D visualisation wall. The installation provides a highly immersive environment for students and staff to explore complex datasets, enhancing their understanding and interaction with digital content.
IEG has continued the construction of the Centre for Green Technology, a state-ofthe-art facility to deliver green skills for the future, focusing on the growing demand for green technology skills, modern methods of construction and sustainable and renewable energy solutions. The centre is due to open in February 2025 and has been part funded by the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough combined authority, providing £2.471M via the transforming cities fund and £400,000 form the local growth fund. Peterborough City council via the Towns fund provided a further £1.9M funding package towards the development. IEG’s commitment is further underpinned by our capital investment programme, an annual £3.5M investment from our reserves to ensure our both facilities and infrastructure remain at the forefront of educational excellence.

INNOVATIVE CURRICULUM Curriculum innovation is shaping the future of technical education, ensuring students develop the skills needed for emerging industries. At Stamford, students are gaining expertise in lowcarbon technologies, including air and ground source heat pump installation, retrofit techniques, and battery storage solutions, equipping them for careers in the green economy. At Peterborough, investment in digital construction and advanced engineering has expanded training in hybrid motor systems, drone-assisted surveying, and BIM (Building Information Modelling), ensuring learners develop the technical skills demanded by industry. With industry-standard facilities, handson learning, and employer-led curriculum design, students graduate with the practical experience and technical proficiency to transition seamlessly into the workforce. By embedding cutting-edge technologies across both campuses, we are strengthening learner progression, staff expertise, and employer confidence. DIGITAL INNOVATION: GOOGLE REFERENCE COLLEGE IEG has continued to actively shape the digital education agenda through national and international engagement. Staff have presented at high-profile events, including Google, Canva HQ, and the Global Google Partner Forum, sharing IEG’s approach to digital transformation with audiences of up to 250. Staff have also led regular development sessions and contributed to AI content development with the Department for Education. BE BOLD, BE BRAVE, BE EXCEPTIONAL: NEW STRATEGY In 2023/24, IEG undertook a comprehensive strategic plan review, prioritising inclusivity and collaboration. Staff, students, and stakeholders contributed valuable insights through meetings and surveys. This process focused on reassessing IEG’s vision, mission, and strategic priorities, resulting in a refreshed strategic document launched in early 2024/25. Key feedback areas included growth and innovation, sustainability, and enhancing the physical environment. The new plan reflects IEG’s culture and ambitions, ensuring we remain a leading force in education and skills development.
