Message From The CEO
MESSAGE FROM THE CEO I am delighted to share with you the Inspire Education Group’s Annual Report 2022/23 which gives an overview of the achievements and successes of our college group. Colleges are anchor institutions in the communities they serve and we are proud to be a key contributor to the social and economic prosperity, growth, innovation and ambition of our region. The Inspire Education Group was formed in August 2020, following the merger of what was then called Peterborough Regional College, now called Peterborough College and New College Stamford, now called Stamford College. The Inspire Education Group also includes University Centre Peterborough, our higher education delivery arm. We continue to maintain focus on high standards and the delivery of high-quality learning and training for students and employers. We are exceptionally proud of our achievements in 2022/23, with the highlight being a very positive Ofsted inspection in March 2023. Fourteen Ofsted inspectors visited us for four days and we achieved a ‘Good’ grade overall with ‘Outstanding’ grades for adult provision and high needs provision. We were also delighted to be awarded ‘strong’ for skills the highest judgement possible relating to how well we meet local and regional skills needs. Last year’s further education student results were also our best ever, with more students than ever before achieving their qualifications at both Peterborough and Stamford Colleges. University Centre Peterborough also had an excellent year in terms of student results and student experience, culminating in being awarded Teaching Excellence Framework Silver status.

We have also developed a number of new courses including Retrofit, EV Charging, Multiply courses (developing confidence with numeracy), Coding, Online Access provision in Business and Computing and a new eSports programme. We have launched five new T Level qualifications with plans for a further eight T Levels comprising 21 different curriculum pathways. We continue to build our reputation and secure our place in Lincolnshire, Peterborough and Cambridgeshire. We have contributed to two Local Skills Improvement Plans, working with the Federation of Small Businesses in Lincolnshire and the Chamber of Commerce in Cambridgeshire. We have also successfully benefited from Local Skills Improvement Fund investment in digital skills and green technology. We play an active role and engage with the Cambridge and Peterborough Combined Authority, the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Project, the Peterborough Towns Fund, Peterborough Citizens, Peterborough Positive, Chamber of Commerce and Stamford Town Council as well as many local charities, employers and other stakeholder such as Evergreen Care Trust, Mindspace, Second Helpings and Nene Park Trust – sincere thanks to all our partners for supporting us and working with us.

Message From The CEO
During the year we have made significant progress with our planned new building on the Peterborough campus, the Centre for Green Technology (CGT). The CGT is a £13.5M project and will deliver new courses in electric vehicle technology, retrofit, modern methods of construction, offsite manufacturing and alternative heat and air source technology. We have recently broken ground and the building is due to be open in December 2024. We continue to look at our whole estate and we are currently developing our master plan for campuses across the group. Our commercial ventures continue to bounce back post Covid. Our Gas Training Centre, MOT Testing Centre, Stamford Fitness, Anglia Professional Training and College Nursery are an important part of our offer and part of our group. We are proud to have such a diverse portfolio of activity which is of high quality and makes such a contribution to the employers and communities we serve. Our Annual Report shows that the Inspire Education Group continues to go from strength to strength. I am exceptionally proud of our achievements this year, which is testament to the dedication, commitment, hard work and skills of our staff and students and I hope you enjoy reading our annual report.

Message From The Chair of Corporation
MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR OF CORPORATION On behalf of the Board of Governors, I am delighted to present to you the 2022/23 Annual Report for the Inspire Education Group. We have had an amazing year with so many successes and achievements which is indicative of the staff team we have across the group. I became Chair of the Inspire Education Group in July 2023, after serving as Vice Chair since merger and Chair of the Finance and Resources Committee. I am exceptionally well supported by a talented, experienced and committed group of governors. Our governors come from a wide range of sectors with experience in commercial business, education, human resources, organisational development, sustainability, finance and audit, and the voluntary and charity sector. Our role is to challenge and support the IEG leadership team and through action, ensure that IEG continues to go from strength to strength. The Board sets the educational character of the organisation by setting the vision, mission and values. Our mission is ‘to transform lives through inspirational education and training’ and this mission drives everything we do and through our 10,000 students, 1300 staff and by engaging with over 2000 employers, I am proud to say we continue to deliver on our mission.
As a board we have been ambitious with our plans for the new £13.5M Centre for Green Technology, due to open in 2024 at Peterborough College. We are determined to continue to invest in our campuses as we develop our master plan and try to leverage as much funding as possible to improve our estate and ensure its sustainability and long-term future. It continues to be an exciting time for the Inspire Education Group as we further grow and innovate. We will continue to ensure we make a demonstrable contribution to the diverse communities and employers we serve.

Overview of the Inspire Education Group
OVERVIEW OF THE INSPIRE EDUCATION GROUP Inspire Education Group (IEG) comprises of Peterborough College, Stamford College and University Centre Peterborough. IEG is a large and successful provider of further and higher education in Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire.
Peterborough College is a mediumsized college that offers a wide range of programmes. The main campus is in a residential area half a mile from the city centre and there are three smaller sites in the city centre, which deliver programmes in Media and Journalism, Employability and Basic Skills, and Accountancy and Legal Services. Stamford College is located in the southwest corner of Lincolnshire. The College’s catchment extends into five neighbouring local authorities: Rutland, Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.
University Centre Peterborough (UCP) offers more than 30 different degreelevel programmes across a number of vocational and academic subject areas. UCP is an approved partner institution of The Open University so our degrees have both national and international recognition. UCP has been accredited with silver status by the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), which is a testament to the high quality of teaching and student experience offered.
The group has a portfolio of programmes including vocational and technical programmes, apprenticeships, higher education and professional training courses tailored to both individual and employer needs, working with the longterm unemployed and delivering English and maths courses. IEG also delivers specialist commercial training, such as MOT testing qualifications and Gas Centre certification for local, regional and national employers.

Strategic Objective 1: ACHIEVE EXCELLENCE
IEG have made continued progress in further improving quality and student outcomes. In March 2023, IEG had their first Ofsted visit as a newly merged college group. The feedback was exceptional and the group received ‘Good’ overall with the two judgements of ‘Outstanding’ in Adult Learning Programmes and provision for learners with High Needs. This demonstrated the significant progress and distance travelled by IEG. Overall achievement rate for the group was 88.2% (all ages/all levels) for 2022/23 against a national achievement rate of 81.6%. This compares to 86.6% in 2021/22 and 85.3% in 2020/21, showing a 3 year sustained improvement. This is our best ever performance (pre and post-merger). A Level performance continues to be at 96.4% or above pass rate, and achievement rates in Basic Skills English and maths significantly exceeds the national averages. Student destinations remain very positive, with over 95% of students achieving their goals for further study and employment, with strong internal student progression. Student satisfaction rates are very good at both campuses and feedback through a variety of opportunities shows that students value the highly supportive learning environment at both Peterborough and Stamford.

Strategic Objective 2: FINANCIAL SUSTAINABILITY
Our financial performance remained strong in 2022/23, and IEG met the metrics for ‘Good’ financial health (to be confirmed by the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA)). The cash position of the group is strong, exceeding the ESFA target for cash days in hand. In 2022/23 IEG invested over £4M in buildings, technologies and learning resources to support the development of student-based activities, and in the fabric of the buildings in which they learn. This investment was supported by capital grants awarded in the region of £2.4M. Some of this relates to projects that straddled the year end, and will be spent in 2023/24. IEG was also donated a higher education building valued at £6.6M in year, strengthening the overall estate. IEG retained a good financial performance in a year of high inflationary pressures, and while this resulted in some sharp increases in operational costs the underlying operating performance was good.

Strategic Objective 3: VALUE OUR PEOPLE
‘Value our People’ is a key strategic aim and is central to the culture and ethos of IEG. We have continued to invest in staff development and CPD, allocating £459,000 in 2022/23. This includes the opportunity for staff to access funding for Degree and Masters qualifications and to secure Advance HE membership.
The group also provides a fully funded Employee Assistance Programme which provides comprehensive support for staff to access and in 2022/23 IEG signed the Menopause Workplace Pledge to exemplify our commitment to supporting employees and raising awareness.
The wellbeing of staff remains a priority and the organisation has an established Mental Health and Wellbeing Committee that is responsible for driving forward initiatives to support staff throughout the organisation. New initiatives include the introduction of Mental Health Champions and free breakfast for staff.
We value our work with Union colleagues and have two vibrant Employee Communication Groups. We are committed to working positively and collaboratively to make IEG a great place to work.

Strategic Objective 4: GROWTH
In 2022/23 growth in full-time 16-18 year olds studying at IEG was very strong, with an additional 200 young people compared to 2021. This is very positive for the group, demonstrating increased market share and our enhanced reputation across the region. IEG continues to offer a forward thinking curriculum to ensure we are training students for skills gaps that exist now, and in the future, in sectors the economy needs, including construction, digital, clean energy and manufacturing. Curriculum strategies strongly reflect the local skills priorities, and are demonstrated in the IEG accountability statement.

MENTAL HEALTH CHAMPIONS
IEG maintains strong links with the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership (GLLEP) and the Cambridge and Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA) and has successfully delivered Adult Skills projects: Multiply (maths) and Skills Bootcamps. Commercial ventures improved against the prior year, though the high inflationary environment impacted overall performance.

Strategic Objective 5: POSITIVE IMPACT
The group continues to work very closely with both the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority and Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership, building upon our very positive reputation with both organisations. We ensure our curriculum plans are closely aligned to local and regional skills needs and have a strong track record in responding to emerging needs such as the recent HGV driver shortage. This has enabled 55 learners to achieve the practical driver training with a further 36 enrolled. We also launched a Level 2 Bootcamp in Construction, in conjunction with the Cambridge and Peterborough Combined Authority. We have successfully delivered online numeracy programmes supported by Multiply funding ensuring adult learners across Lincolnshire, Peterborough and Cambridgeshire have access to this key skill and are able to progress in their career journey. Our collaborative partnerships are highly effective and successful, allowing IEG to meet specialist niche and employer needs including in the health and social care, digital, education and construction sectors. Employer feedback is overwhelmingly positive and the contribution we make to our diverse communities is widely recognised and valued. We also launched a new online ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) course, designed with maximum flexibility to remove barriers to learning and to engage this hard to reach group, particularly those that have recently been displaced and moved to the local area. We are also proud to share that in December 2022 IEG successfully achieved the College of Sanctuary status, which recognises our work with Asylum Seekers and Refugees across the regions we serve.
Good progress continues to be made throughout the group in relation to environmental sustainability objectives, achievements include; a significant refurbishment plan in Peterborough College and Stamford College to improve energy efficiency of the building, replacing windows, doors and heating systems. The solar generation from the new construction block at Stamford also generated 16.829 MWh of renewable energy. Further projects are ongoing and will progress in 2023/24. Work with Peterborough Citizens has enabled our students to get involved in community organising and has equipped them with leadership skills to make a positive difference and be valuable members of their community around matters that are important to them. One successful campaign involved addressing lack of access to mental health services and support in Peterborough and addressing safety concerns in Central Park which led to increased CCTV cameras and improved lighting to create safer spaces for the wider community.

EXCELLING NATIONALLY AMONGST GENERAL FURTHER EDUCATION COLLEGES FOR ENGLISH AND MATHS PROVISION The National Achievement Rates Tables, published annually by the Department for Education, provide a comprehensive overview of the performance and achievement rates of learners from across the UK’s educational providers. As a key source for assessing quality and student support, as a group, we are proud of our unwavering commitment to the success of learners recognised in the industryrespected performance indicator tables. In addition, we ranked 78 out of 227 colleges nationwide, and 13.6% above the national average for learner achievement in GCSE English, fostering a learning environment where students not only meet educational standards but exceed them. GCSE maths results are equally as impressive, with Inspire Education Group ranking in the upper quartile of FE colleges nationally. For a demographic area where results are 10% below the national average, Inspire Education Group ranks 45 out of 232 for maths, with results 11% above the national average. Our Functional Skills English provision is equally outstanding, having achieved 11% above the national average for Entry Level, 21% above the national average for Level 1 and 24% above the national average for Level 2. Functional Skills maths is also 14% better than other colleges in the East of England at Entry Level and 13% better at Level 1. IEG Student of the Year
JobSmart student, Faisal Mokhammad-Aiup, originally from Afghanistan, became a refugee at the age of nine when he was sent to live in Ukraine. After living in Ukraine for 25 years, he became a refugee again, escaping the war and arriving in the UK in 2022. Faisal’s remarkable ability to rise above obstacles has inspired others to push beyond their limits. Faisal was recognised at our Student Awards with the Rising Above Adversity Award and the overall Student of the Year Award.

Will Blower Accountancy Apprenticeship Student, Anglia Professional Training
Will Blower studied Business, Sociology and Psychology at A Level, before enrolling on an Apprenticeship programme with a local accountancy firm and Inspire Education Group partner, Anglia Professional Training. Five years on, Will has completed his accountancy qualifications and now runs his own accountancy practice, Realise Finance. “Weekly classroom-based training, coupled with the hands-on experience, really helped me to develop into the accountant I am today, and I have the Apprenticeship to thank for that.”
BSc (Hons) Forensic Investigation graduate of University Centre Peterborough (UCP), Maddi Hobman, secured a role as Victim Care Officer within the Gloucestershire Constabulary. “The support on offer was exceptional. UCP is a place where your lecturers truly care for you and want to support you throughout your journey.” Reminiscing on the many fond memories of her time at UCP, Maddi shared, “I really enjoyed the opportunities to gain industry experience, such as attending a postmortem, and being put in contact with criminal justice professionals.”

Deneil, a Level 2 Community Activator Coach, won the ‘Partner Apprentice of the Year’ at the IEG Student Awards 2023, while Declan, completing the Level 3 Community Sport and Health Officer Apprenticeship, not only won the Education category but also the overall ‘Apprentice of the Year Award’ at Lincolnshire’s Champions Awards Ceremony 2023. Both exemplify the positive impact of inspire+ apprentices in East England schools. Aspire Education deliver specialist face-toface ‘Education Support Programmes’ to support unemployed learners furthest from the labour market. The 3-week programme includes CV development, interview techniques and opportunities to apply for live jobs. Programmes are designed to improve soft skills, industry knowledge, and skills and behaviours necessary for securing employment opportunities in the Education Sector. ADDICT Specialist dance training is provided to our students by Addict Dance Academy with a breadth of technical dance styles delivered by industry experts. Offering HND Performing Arts, students are provided with exciting industry opportunities and progression to become successful dancers. EASTERN SCHOOL OF PERFORMING ARTS (ESPA) With specialist studios in Stamford, ESPA offer Level 3, 4 and 5 professional Musical Theatre and Dance training to students across the region. The training is delivered by industry experts with excellence, commitment and dedication. Students go on to train and study in varying disciplines, be that at theatre school, university or employment.
A Lincolnshire based sport and education charity with a vision to ensure young people are ‘Healthy, Happy and Active’. Inspire+ is a leading training provider of PE and School Sport Apprenticeships from Level 2 to Level 4. Practical training is delivered by a highly experienced education team working closely with learners and local employers to prepare learners for a career in sports teaching or coaching. Many learners gain permanent employment with their apprentice employer. GLADSTONE DISTRICT COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION (GLADCA) GLADCA is an important community hub located in Peterborough with a team of well qualified and experienced tutors delivering ESOL and Functional Skills. Learners in the local community develop and achieve English skills to help them lead more independent lives and take an active role in their community. GLADCA promotes community cohesion and supports integration within its communities.
LEARNING CURVE A flexible, diverse catalogue of nationally accredited short online courses are offered to adult learners with excellent digital learning resources and support by specialist tutors. These qualifications provided by Learning Curve Group are designed to enable adult learners to return to education, to learn a new skill and/or to upskill and progress their career.

OUR COMMERCIAL SERVICES August 2022 - July 2023
Within our Colleges, there are six catering outlets to meet the needs of staff and students. These outlets together completed an average of 1,500 transactions per day. The services take regular feedback from both staff and student groups and aim to respond to customer demand. In 2022/23 more vegan dishes and street food options were introduced. During the year we increased the number of students who are bursary supported, providing between £6.00 to £13.50 per week.
Based on the Peterborough College grounds at Park Crescent, the College Nursery was awarded ‘Good’ in all four areas of the inspection by officials from Ofsted who visited in January 2023. The nursery, which has 72 children registered and employs 21 members of childcare staff, has offered high-quality childcare in Peterborough for babies and young children, aged three months to five-yearsold, for more than 30 years.
As part of our commitment to wellbeing we also introduced free breakfasts available for all staff and students each day.
Anglia Professional Training (APT) is based in Peterborough and is a fully accredited AAT exam and study centre. APT offers the full range of Accountancy courses and apprenticeships from Foundation Level (Level 2) to Professional Level (Level 7). APT is also accredited with CILEx, CMI and ICB to offer courses and Apprenticeships in Legal Services, Management and Leadership, and Payroll. During 2022/23 APT had a total of 304 enrolments in learning. This included 126 Apprentices on the programme and 177 adult learners.

232 learners undertook a range of courses at our training centre in 2022/23. These ranged from the mandatory three-day Gas Safe Certification, one-day refresher training or our hugely popular eight-month managed learning programme course. The centre is accredited by British Plumbing Employers Council (BPEC) and has a high pass rate of 98%.

240 learners were supported by our MOT Training Centre in 2022/23. The centre delivers mandatory accreditation training to enable the learners to complete MOTs in industry. Students have come from as far afield as Cornwall and Scotland to attend the centre, accredited by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency, alongside exam-provided Institute of the Motor Industry and ABC Awards, an Awarding Organisation regulated by Ofqual, with a 90% pass rate.

Annie Fowler, a Level 5 Journalism student at University Centre Peterborough, secured a freelance Broadcast Assistant position with BBC Radio Cambridgeshire. Annie had plenty to say about how University Centre Peterborough prepared her for the new role: “The most valuable asset for me was the radio studio at Inspire Education Group’s Media and Journalism Centre. Being able to see the set-up and ‘play around’ with the equipment gave me plenty of experience before I went to the BBC radio station, making starting work far less daunting. I think University Centre Peterborough was the best place I could’ve gone to for university.”

Having emigrated from Iran, Mohammad Amin Ali struggled to read and write English when he arrived in the UK. With the support of Peterborough College’s English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) department, Mohammad is now completing A Levels in Biology, Chemistry and Maths at Stamford College, and strives to study Medicine at university. His ongoing success with IEG has recently been recognised by the Muslim Council of Peterborough, an organisation which aims to connect local Muslim organisations in the Peterborough area.

Natalia shared, “My teachers and tutors guided me towards my future career. The practical, hands-on activities, such as filming my coursework for my Media A Level, allowed me to develop my creativity and filming skillset, ahead of my career in marketing.”

INSPIRE EDUCATION GROUP CELEBRATES STELLAR RESULTS DAY WITH OVER 450 STUDENTS PROGRESSING TO UNIVERSITY 450 students successfully progressed to university following exceptional results in the 2022 to 2023 academic year. Phenomenally, almost 1 in 3 students celebrated high grades of A* to B and D*D*D* to DDM equivalent. Top students included: Michelle Attuah-Asante celebrated D* D* D* and secured a place at the University of Nottingham to study Architecture after successfully completing her Diploma in Art and Design at Peterborough College. Lucas Garlike, who achieved a D*D*D* in Music Technology at Peterborough College, went on to study Film Studies at the University of Warwick. Izaac Boulton from Stamford College celebrated an impressive A* B B in English, History, and Politics respectively. Izaac, who accepted his place at the University of Edinburgh to study History, shared, “I was very pleased with my grades, and I’m sure there are plenty of students just like me that achieved their results because of Stamford College’s adaptable learning style and its focus on the individual.” Savannah Parkinson-Snell and Natasha Richardson both celebrated D*D*D* after completing their Art and Design Diplomas. Savannah progressed to Norwich University of the Arts to study Fashion and said, “I found confidence and passion going into my chosen field and will forever be grateful for the endless knowledge and opportunities I have been presented with.”

Isla Grayston progressed to study Business at Manchester Metropolitan University, having achieved B grades in Business, Sociology, and Media. Isla shared, “The staff at Stamford College offered me great support. I felt very comfortable, but challenged to achieve highly.” Harry Rawcliffe achieved DMM in Uniformed Protective Services, enhancing his application to the Police Force. Harry said, “I really enjoyed my time at Stamford College. Achieving a DMM helped me incredibly to reach the final stage of my application to the Apprenticeship scheme with Bedfordshire Police.” The outstanding results not only showcased the dedication and hard work of the students but also affirmed IEG’s mission to empower learners for success in their academic pursuits and beyond. Angela O’Reilly, Vice Principal of Curriculum and Quality, was full of praise for the results at both Colleges, saying, “At Inspire Education Group, we are immensely proud of our students. Their achievements are a testament to the dedication and resilience exhibited by them. INSPIRE EDUCATION GROUP’S ANNUAL STAFF CONFERENCE CELEBRATES BRILLIANCE, NOURISHMENT, AND INNOVATION The Inspire Education Group Staff Conference was a resounding success, fostering a sense of unity, inspiring innovation, and showcasing the brilliance within the IEG community. Over 900 IEG staff members gathered for their annual staff conference, held at the Kingsgate Conference Centre in Peterborough on 3 July 2023. The conference, themed “The Brilliance Within: Celebrate, Nourish, Innovate”, provided a platform for IEG’s dedicated staff to connect, learn, and celebrate their collective achievements. The conference featured inspiring keynote presentations from leading experts in their respective fields. Dr Sophie Bostock, a sleep psychologist and neuroscientist, captivated the audience with her insightful talk on “Sleeping for Happiness: The Science Behind Your Wellbeing.” Dr Bostock’s presentation highlighted the importance of sleep for mental and physical health and offered practical strategies for improving sleep habits. Andy Cope, a best-selling author and expert in positive psychology, delivered a captivating presentation on “The Art of Being Brilliant: How to Unlock Your Inner Potential and Create a Life You Love.” Andy’s engaging style and practical advice resonated with the audience, providing actionable steps to enhance personal and professional success.

CELEBRATING STAFF ACHIEVEMENTS The conference reflected IEG’s unwavering belief in the potential of its staff to make a positive impact. The event served as a reminder of the collective brilliance within the IEG community and the importance of nurturing and celebrating the exceptional contributions of IEG staff. The inaugural Staff IEG Awards ceremony honoured outstanding individuals and teams who have demonstrated excellence in their roles, gone above and beyond expectations, and made a significant impact on student success.
IEG’S WELLBEING WEDNESDAY Inspire Education Group recognises the importance of nurturing the wellbeing of its staff and is committed to creating a supportive and inclusive work environment. Wellbeing Wednesday is an annual initiative as part of the staff development week that encourages all staff to prioritise their physical and mental health, promoting self-care and fostering a positive work-life balance. The initiative focuses on the 5 Ways to Wellbeing, an NHS framework designed to enhance overall wellbeing by encouraging individuals to connect, be active, take notice, learn, and give. Planned activities on the day included; Mindfulness, Golf, Paddleboarding, Burghley House tour, creative writing and a Rutland Water walk. By implementing initiatives like Wellbeing Wednesday, Inspire Education Group is taking proactive steps to promote the wellbeing of its staff and create a thriving and productive work environment where staff feel valued.
ENHANCING WELLBEING AND MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT The wellbeing of our staff and students is a crucial aspect of our organisation’s success, and we are committed to providing comprehensive support to foster a healthy and productive environment. In 2022/23, we continued our proactive approach to mental health and wellbeing, fully implementing a range of initiatives to promote the overall wellbeing of our community and commitment to the AoC Mental Health and Wellbeing Charter. One notable initiative was the introduction of free breakfast for all staff and students, providing a positive start to the day and enhancing overall physical and mental health. Additionally, we demonstrated our commitment to supporting staff experiencing menopause by signing the Menopause Workplace Pledge, emphasising our dedication to creating a supportive and understanding environment for all our employees. To further enhance our staff support, we introduced a network of Mental Health Champions, individuals who are trained to provide peer support and guidance on mental health matters. These Champions are available to listen to concerns, offer advice, and connect colleagues with appropriate resources. Their presence has contributed to a more open and supportive culture around mental health, making it easier for staff to seek help when needed. Our commitment to mental health and wellbeing extends beyond direct support initiatives. We foster an open and supportive culture within our organisation, encouraging open communication and seeking to create a workplace where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to address their mental health concerns.

IMPACT ON OUR EMPLOYERS PARTNERSHIP WORKING FOR SKILLS AND EMPLOYMENT One of our key focuses is partnership working with employers to ensure that our education and training programmes align with the skills needs of the region and beyond. In March 2023, we were inspected by Ofsted and received strong recognition for our contribution to meeting the regional skills needs. We continue to work closely with businesses and organisations to develop and deliver programmes that prepare young people and adults for fulfilling employment opportunities.
LOCAL SKILLS IMPROVEMENT PLAN We have worked to support the production of Local Skills Improvement Plans (LSIPs) in Lincolnshire, Cambridge and Peterborough, and have actively contributed to the development of the skills plans for our region by working with the Cambridgeshire Chamber of Commerce and the Lincolnshire Federation of Small Businesses to ensure we meet the local and regional skills needs.
IEG works effectively with both devolved (Cambridge and Peterborough Combined Authority) and non-devolved administrations (Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership) to support their strategic skills plans in their regions. This brings many opportunities to secure capital and revenue funding to deliver the skills provision for the local communities and have a strong track record of delivering successful projects to meet student, employer and stakeholder needs.
Allison Homes is all about building great communities, mutually beneficial relationships, and investing in our next generation. We take pride in developing local young talent, and working closely with Inspire Education Group has provided great synergy for both parties. LOCAL SKILLS IMPROVEMENT FUND To respond to the recommendations in the LSIP, we have successfully bid into the Local Skills Improvement Fund in collaboration with a number of partners. They are led by Grimsby Institute and Cambridge Regional College. Grimsby Institute led the collaborative bid for Lincolnshire and we have secured £285k of capital funding and £56k of revenue funding. Cambridge Regional College led the collaborative bid for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough and through this bid, we have secured £583k of capital funding and £67k of revenue funding. This funding has to be spent before March 2025 and will be used to purchase state-ofthe-art virtual reality equipment to support innovative student engagement and equipment. This equipment will support our green skills agenda and continue to ensure our students are prepared to meet the future skills needs of our region.
SKILLS BOOTCAMPS We have secured funding from CPCA to support 40 learners through a Skills for Care Bootcamp. The training is planned to be delivered by March 2024. In addition, we have secured funding from GLLEP to support 60 learners through a Skills for Care Bootcamp and 65 learners through a Retrofit Skills Bootcamp. Again, delivery must be completed by March 2024.
HEAVY GOODS VEHICLE TRAINING We continue to deliver the hugely successful HGV training programme which was funded by Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA), to combat national driver shortages and to open a sustainable career pathway for individuals in Peterborough. Following the success of the training within the Cambridgeshire region, a joint bid was made to the Labour Market Growth Fund with Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership (GLLEP), and the funding was secured to deliver to Lincolnshire residents. In supporting learners through the medical, theory and practical HGV driving tests we have created a pipeline of job-ready, experienced candidates to local businesses. To date, 55 individuals have completed the training and are employed in the sector and we have 36 learners undertaking the training currently.
MULTIPLY FUNDING Multiply is a national fund to support the engagement of individuals in numeracy training to improve the numeracy skills of individuals across the country. Local Authorities and Devolved Authorities have received allocations of funding to deliver this programme until 2025. Allocations for 2023/24 have been received and we have £90k from Lincolnshire County Council and £170k from CPCA to engage with individuals and deliver numeracy sessions until the end of March 2024. In addition, Lincolnshire County Council have awarded £75k for us to deliver staff development sessions. This is to support capacity building of maths facilitators to ensure there are enough staff to deliver this national initiative. Again, allocations will be reviewed in 2024.

DELIVERING DIVERSE TECH TALENT AT SCALE WHILE DELIVERING THE QUALITY AND OUTCOMES EMPLOYERS NEED In January 2023, University Centre Peterborough (UCP), supported by Code Institute added a new qualification to its mix of tech courses, the Gateway Qualifications Level 5 Diploma in Web Application Development, as a way to get people skilled or re-skilled for a future in tech relatively quickly. The course is hitting parts of the workforce that traditional computer science degrees cannot reach. The gender balance in UCP’s cohorts is better than the average in tech. At the moment, around 35% of our students are female, and in the next cohort, that percentage is expected to increase.

Providing the right skills and adult training for CPCA residents is an important part of my role as Head of Adult Education Budget. I am proud of the excellent partnership we have with the Inspire Education Group, funding projects which enable them to develop and deliver high quality adult education and training opportunities within the CPCA region that support people to upskill, retrain or learn something new for their career or their personal growth. As a provider judged by Ofsted to deliver ‘Outstanding’ adult programmes, the team at Inspire Education Group have been innovative and responsive in developing a curriculum that meets national, regional and local needs and priorities. These include the successful delivery of Multiply programmes, HGV driver training, digital maths, English and ESOL programmes to extend the range of options available to adult learners.
We value the strategic partnership which helps to drive forward our skills strategy ambition for a world class ecosystem involving stronger collaboration and partnerships between learners, the education sector, employers, and the CPCA and public sector. As a former student of Peterborough College, I am delighted to be able to provide my support, now, after 35 years working in the industry. I visit the College several times a year – sometimes to work with the students on dinners and sometime just to advise and encourage them during the day. There is a real shortage of skilled and talented staff throughout the hospitality industry and it is important that we all do what we can to encourage the next generation.
We also provide visits to our clubhouse in Pall Mall, London, to show them the range of opportunities available within our amazing and diverse industry.
We also offer students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience at some of our major events. For example, each year 8 to 10 Peterborough College students work on our festivities over Derby Weekend at our country clubhouse near Epsom.

IMPACT ON OUR COMMUNITY WE HAVE BEEN AWARDED FE COLLEGE OF SANCTUARY We are proud to have received the prestigious accolade of FE College of Sanctuary status, awarded by the City of Sanctuary UK. IEG is part of a network of Further Education college staff, teachers and students, working together to make education inclusive and empowering for all. As an FE College of Sanctuary, we have gone above and beyond to support those in the asylum system, helping to raise awareness amongst our students, staff and the wider community about migration and why people seek safety. This national award recognises and celebrates good practice, which encourages other institutions to provide more inclusive education and support.
PETERBOROUGH CITIZENS HOST FOUNDING ASSEMBLY AT PETERBOROUGH COLLEGE In November 2022, Peterborough Citizens, chaired by our CEO, Rachel Nicholls, held their Founding Assembly at Peterborough College. Peterborough Citizens, a peoplepower alliance of diverse local communities working together for the common good, looks to develop local leaders, strengthen local organisations and make positive changes within the city.
STAMFORD COLLEGE STUDENTS SHARE COMMUNITY SPIRIT AND CONSTRUCTION SKILLS TO BUILD A MEMORIAL GARDEN AT ST GEORGE’S PRIMARY SCHOOL The loss of Vivien Radocz and her son Milan had a profound impact on the community, especially Milan’s classmates. As such, Stamford College Bricklaying and Construction students, led by Lecturer Tom Deignan, offered their labour and skillset free of charge to the build of the Milan Peace Garden Project. Tom shared, “In offering their hand in this project, Stamford College students have been able to refine their practical skills in a real-life setting, but they can also take pride in the fact that they’re contributing to a poignant memorial that will benefit local people. They should be very proud of themselves.”

Tom also engaged with local employers, such as Allison Homes, Messenger, Travis Perkins, Buildbase and Countryside Partnerships, who have kindly donated materials and plant machinery to support the build. As Milan took a keen interest in nature, the design incorporates four raised flower beds, for which the £2500 worth of bricks donated by Allison Homes, were used. A representative of the company shared, “At Allison Homes, we aim to support the local community wherever we can, and knew the peace garden was a project we had to aid with. We work very closely with Stamford College as many of our apprentices study there, and believe it is really special that the students have been involved with such an important build. This experience is one both us and the students will be able to look back on in years to come with pride, and we hope that the pupils and staff at St George’s Primary School find this garden to be extremely beneficial.”
GLADCA CELEBRATES AT HOUSE OF COMMONS GLADCA’s work in the community was recognised at a special reception at the Houses of Parliament in October 2022. Paul Bristow MP’s ‘Peterborough Heroes’ campaign sets out to recognise and celebrate the work of deserving people in Peterborough. Having served the community for over 50 years, GLADCA were invited in recognition of their contribution to improving lives through educational support, and signposting people to access and advice. GLADCA and Paul Bristow MP were joined by senior members of the cabinet: Thérèse Coffey, the Deputy Prime Minister and Health Secretary, and Michelle Donellan, the department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) Secretary.
The Colleges are immensely grateful to Allison Homes for their continued support as an Inspire Education Group Industry Skills Academy sponsor. It is community collaborations such as these between students, staff and local employers that eternalise the memory of Milan, and his mother Vivien. Inspire Education Group sends its condolences to the Radocz’ loved ones.

THE YEAR IN HEADLINES: OUR HIGHLIGHTS AND ACHIEVEMENTS RECORD NUMBER OF STUDENTS CHOOSE INSPIRE EDUCATION GROUP
STAFF AND STUDENTS PLANTED 420 TREES IN AID OF NATIONAL TREE WEEK
We have celebrated a record-breaking year in 2022-23, with over 4600 full-time 16-to-18-year-olds choosing to take the next steps in their educational journey with Peterborough and Stamford Colleges. As our popularity continues to soar, an additional 200 young people have chosen Inspire Education Group, compared to September 2021’s enrolment period.
An initiative born from our ‘Green Group’ was to get our Colleges involved with National Tree Week, the UK’s largest annual tree celebration. Each year, the public is encouraged to plant trees at the mark of the winter tree planting season, to help address the problem of biodiversity loss and to futureproof the natural environment in response to climate change. We applied for a grant through the Woodland Trust, and upon its acceptance, we obtained 420 tree and hedgerow saplings. Teaching groups and staff from all faculties were invited to get involved, with over 100 arriving suited and welly-booted to offer a helping hand!
THE GRAND OPENING OF BORDERVILLE SPORTS CENTRE’S EXTENSION In a ceremony that overlooked the 3G pitches of the £2 million facility, the grand opening of the Borderville Sports Centre extension was celebrated among local dignitaries, including Gareth Davies, MP for Grantham and Stamford, our staff and our students at Stamford College. The 807m2 of new learning space includes a sports laboratory, gym, IT room, study zone, and six classrooms.

STAMFORD COLLEGE HOSTS CHRISTMAS PARTY FOR UKRAINIAN COMMUNITY Stamford College, in conjunction with the Stamford Diversity Group and Stamford Town Council, hosted a festive Christmas party for over 100 members of the local Ukrainian community, where guests enjoyed family fun, food, games, poetry and music.
LAUNCHING A FULLY FUNDED HGV TRAINING PROGRAMME Together with Lincoln College and the Road Haulage Association (RHA), we have launched a new Drive 2 Work initiative. The programme has provided opportunities to engage 60 of our students and has supported them through the medical, theory and practical driving tests alongside preparation for employment. The hugely successful HGV training programme was developed by Inspire Education Group and funded by Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA) to combat national driver shortages and open a sustainable career pathway for individuals in Peterborough.
SIGNING THE ARMED FORCES COVENANT Our CEO, Rachel Nicholls, was thrilled with the opportunity to show support for the Armed Forces, pledging our commitment to be an armed forces-friendly organisation by signing the Armed Forces Covenant.
ITV NEWS FILM WOMEN IN CONSTRUCTION SEGMENT AT STAMFORD COLLEGE Stamford College was delighted to host representatives of ITV News, who were filming a segment about women in the construction sector. Prompted by recent statistics that show stagnation in the growth of female participation in the maledominated industry, we were contacted by ITV who requested to interview female students currently enrolled on the plumbing, electrical, carpentry and joinery and bricklaying courses, portraying the benefits of learning a trade.

THE GRAND OPENING OF STAMFORD COLLEGE’S MODERN METHODS OF CONSTRUCTION CENTRE, SPONSORED BY ALLISON HOMES The grand opening of the Modern Methods of Construction Centre at Stamford College was celebrated among local dignitaries, stakeholders, our staff and students at Stamford College, in a ceremony that recognised the wealth of opportunities conceived from the £3.3 million facility. Jointly funded by the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership (GLLEP) and Department for Education Post-16 Capital Funding, the Modern Methods of Construction Centre is now the primary learning facility for over 500 additional plumbing, carpentry, brickwork and electrical installation students. Allison Homes, as an IEG Industry Skills Academy and sponsor of the new build, also took the opportunity to launch their new brand, Allison Partnerships.
VIRTALIS VIRTUAL REALITY WALL INSTALLED AT STAMFORD COLLEGE Stamford College has become one of only a handful of Further Education providers in the UK to install a Virtalis Virtual Reality wall, having received funding from the Department for Education for the Greater Lincolnshire area. The cuttingedge technology will revolutionise our educational offering across all curriculum areas at Stamford College, as students explore virtual worlds of unprecedented realism.

PETERBOROUGH CULTURAL ALLIANCE COLLABORATE WITH UNIVERSITY CENTRE PETERBOROUGH TO DRIVE LOCAL CULTURAL STRATEGY
The National Achievement Rates Tables (NARTs), published annually by the Department for Education, provide a comprehensive overview of the performance and achievement rates of learners from across the UK’s educational providers. Inspire Education Group ranked in the top 3% of General Further Education (GFE) Colleges (5th out of 168 colleges) nationally for GCSE English and maths results, and in the top 20% of GFE Colleges nationally for overall achievement rates of 16 to 18-year-olds (28th out of 160 colleges).
Sughra Ahmed, the new Managing Director of Peterborough Cultural Alliance, visited University Centre Peterborough (UCP) to discuss how to create more opportunities across the arts for FE and HE students. At UCP, we strive to be part of projects and initiatives that recognise the importance of the arts and creativity in Peterborough.

STUDENT SUCCESS STUDENTS GRADUATE FROM UNIVERSITY CENTRE PETERBOROUGH On 28 September 2022, family, friends, tutors and local dignitaries gathered at Peterborough Cathedral, one of the most significant medieval abbeys in the country, to celebrate the graduation of over 200 University Centre Peterborough students.
STAMFORD COLLEGE GRAPHIC DESIGN STUDENTS ENGAGE IN LIVE BRIEFS PRESENTED BY LOCAL BUSINESSES Live briefs are an important aspect of our graphic design courses, as they help students to practise working towards a client’s specific requirements for a target audience, using a range of art and design techniques. In the academic year 20222023, students have supported local charities, Second Helpings and Evergreen Care Trust. Level 3 students also followed a live brief to design beer pump clips for locally-based Oakham Ales. Producing original illustrations for the Winter Wisp Winter Pale, Lily Thompson was declared the winning entrant.
STUDENT HONOURED AT LINCOLNSHIRE’S CHAMPIONS AWARDS CEREMONY 2023 Declan Brown, studying an Advanced Community Sport and Health Officer Apprenticeship at Stamford College and inspire+ was honoured at Linconshire’s Champions Awards Ceremony 2023. Following his well-deserved achievement, Declan was also invited to join the Apprenticeship Ambassador Network, a great privilege and opportunity.

UNIVERSITY CENTRE PETERBOROUGH’S STUDENT BLOG, ‘INSIDE THE BOX’, WINS AWARD AT STUDENT PUBLICATION ASSOCIATION REGIONAL AWARDS 2023
PETERBOROUGH COLLEGE MEN’S FOOTBALL TEAM WIN REGIONAL LEAGUE TITLE
‘Inside The Box’, run by University Centre Peterborough’s journalism students, won the ‘Best Newcomer Publication’ award for the Midland’s region, after seeing off stiff competition from various student publications in the area. Since taking ownership of the blog in the summer, students worked hard to cement the blog as a hub of creativity for readers to consume whenever, and wherever they like featuring a wide array of content, including interviews, videos and photography.
Peterborough College’s Men’s Football Team secured the AoC Sport East Men’s Regional Football League B title. The triumph served as testament to the exceptional footballing talent nurtured at Peterborough College’s football academy and reinforced our commitment to excellence in sports education. The victory not only strengthens the College’s reputation as a leading institution but also inspires future generations of football enthusiasts to chase their dreams relentlessly.

We hosted an unforgettable Student Awards night at the Holiday Inn in Peterborough. The event served as a remarkable celebration of academic achievements, personal growth and the exceptional talents displayed by the students of Peterborough College and Stamford College.
This year’s results days saw a 96% pass rate for diplomas, a 96.4% pass rate for A Levels and an 86.7% pass rate for GCSE resits across the group, a true testament to the hard work and dedication shown by our students and staff.

STUDENTS COMPETE IN THE ASSOCIATION OF HAIRDRESSERS AND THERAPISTS’ ANNUAL COMPETITION The Association of Hairdressers and Therapists’ (AHT) Student Competition is a highly anticipated event in the world of hair and beauty, serving as a platform for young, aspiring stylists and beauticians to showcase their expertise across a host of categories. After their successes in the regional heats, hosted at Stamford College’s Borderville facility, our hair and beauty students progressed to compete in the Final at the Norbreck Castle Hotel in Blackpool, with four securing podium positions.
AIR AND DEFENCE STUDENTS GRADUATE AT THE RAF COLLEGE CRANWELL IN LINCOLNSHIRE The remarkable achievements of our Air and Defence College students were celebrated at a prestigious graduation ceremony held at the RAF College Cranwell in Lincolnshire. Since the Air and Defence College began, over 500 students have graduated, all benefitting from this unique ‘employer-led’ programme and resulting in places on RAF Basic Recruit Training, progression into apprenticeships, employment and further study for a career in the aerospace industry.
SUPPORTED INTERN SECURES PAID EMPLOYMENT AT HOLIDAY INN Designed to support adults with learning disabilities, autism, or a combination of both, the Supported Internship initiative at Inspire Education Group has showcased the positive impact that tailored support and inclusive programmes can have in securing permanent paid employment for its participants. Having completed her Supported Internship, Amelia Bollons not only showcased her skills and commitment but left a notable impression on her employers and was offered a well-deserved paid role. Ben Morecome, General Manager at Holiday Inn, said, “Amelia is a really capable individual and we love working with her. She’s passionate and wants to make a difference.”
FORMER ACCESS STUDENT WINS ROYAL TELEVISION SOCIETY AWARD Tom Fell received a Royal Television Society Student Award for Best Production Design, for his university film, ‘470 – Peter’s Story’, the true story of Peter Corbett, a 9-time champion of banger racing. Tom completed the Access to Higher Education Humanities and Social Sciences course, before progressing to a BA (Hons) in Film and Media Production at Sheffield Hallam University, and credits his time at Stamford College for completely changing how he viewed education after dropping out of school at 15. He successfully graduated in 2022 with a 1:1 class degree classification and has since moved to Malta, working full-time as a Game Developer and Media Specialist at Anvil Game Studios.

LEADING THE WAY: INNOVATION AND OUR FUTURE PLANS At Inspire Education Group, we are committed to fostering an innovative and excellence-driven culture that permeates every aspect of our work. As a group, we are on an exciting journey of continued development, digital innovation and growth to meet the evolving needs of our students, staff, employers, and communities. Some of our development plans for 2023/34 include: INVESTMENT IN INFRASTRUCTURE We remain committed to investing in our facilities and infrastructure to ensure a modern and supportive learning environment. IEG is progressing the development of a £13.5M Centre for Green Technology building at Peterborough College, which is expected to be completed in December 2024. This state-of-the-art facility will support the growing demand for green technology skills and education, equipping students with cutting-edge knowledge and skills in modern construction methods, emerging technologies, alternative heat sources, and electric vehicle technology. IEG has committed an average of £3.5M of its reserves annually to support its capital investment program, ensuring that its facilities remain at the forefront of educational excellence. This project has been partly funded by Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, providing £2.471 million via the Transforming Cities Fund and £400,000 from the Local Growth Fund, further to the £1.9 million package from Peterborough City Council via the Towns Fund.

INNOVATIVE CURRICULUM IEG is expanding its curriculum to meet the growing demand for relevant and industryaligned skills. Key initiatives include: • Expanded 14-16 provision: Collaborating directly with six Peterborough schools, IEG will further enhance its provision for younger learners, preparing them for further study and successful careers. • Web development courses: A new partnership with the ‘Code Institute’ will expand web development courses, providing students with in-demand skills in this rapidly growing field.

• Online Access course: An innovative online Level 3 Access course will commence in October 2023, offering flexible and accessible learning opportunities for aspiring higher education students. • Further T Level pathways delivered in 2023/24. • ESOL delivery in the workplace: IEG will provide ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) training in the workplace, catering to the needs of local employers and their workforce. • Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs) pilot: UCP is piloting the development of HTQs, advanced qualifications that provide students with specialised skills and knowledge in high-demand areas. DIGITAL INNOVATION: GOOGLE REFERENCE COLLEGE IEG has applied for Google Reference status. This prestigious award is granted to organisations that demonstrate a commitment to innovation, technology, and education. Our ambition as a College is to equip all students and staff with the digital knowledge, skills and confidence to be successful in an increasingly digital world and create a dedicated centre for digital skills and innovation. This centre will provide students and staff with access to cutting-edge technology, industry-aligned training, and mentorship from Google experts. GENERATIVE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE At the forefront of innovation, IEG is embracing the transformative potential of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) in education. GAI tools, capable of generating text, code, images, and other creative content, are poised to revolutionise teaching, learning, and assessment practices. Recognising this potential, IEG is implementing Google Gemini, an interactive chat-based AI system, to enhance the teaching and learning experience for both students and staff.
