Make connections between your own artistic ideas and those of other artists, past and present. Music Our students approach music as something to experience, appreciate, and create. Whether singing with classmates, performing on stage, or exploring a new instrument, they develop fluency and confidence in the language of music. Through active participation and collaboration, students have opportunities to perform and share their talents throughout their time at St. Anne’s-Belfield. Visual Arts From clay and charcoal to digital photography, students explore a wide range of artistic mediums while discovering their own creative voice. They learn to observe closely, experiment boldly, and refine their ideas as they create original work inspired by artists, cultures, and movements from throughout history and around the world. Theatre Arts Through movement, storytelling, performance, and production, students build confidence, communication skills, and stage presence with increasing rigor as performers grow. Performances at every division give students opportunities to challenge themselves, develop their craft, and experience the excitement of bringing a story to life.

Upper School Arts
All students in Grade 5 take strings, visual arts, music & movement, and theatre. In Grade 6, students choose a yearlong music focus in either orchestra or choir. Students are also enrolled in both visual arts and theatre. The arts program in Grades 7 and 8 provides an opportunity for students to focus on one area of the arts more exclusively. Students may choose to excel in the string orchestra, choir, theatre arts, or visual arts media.
Visual and performing arts are an integral part of student life and culture in the Upper School. From weekly student-led Chapel performances and performances in our world-class Grisham Hall auditorium, to our dedicated ceramics and fine arts studios, to more casual open mic nights in our newly-renovated Lourie Learning Center (LLC), both students who are just exploring their artistic interests and serious artists who wish to pursue a career in the arts will find the resources and the caring guidance of experienced faculty to hone their craft.

Arts Management Pathway Program Beginning in Grades 10 and 11 in the Upper School, serious artists have the opportunity to pursue a special designation on their diplomas through the Pathways Program in Arts Management. Composed of hands-on training, practical assignments, significant community service, and mentorship within the arts field, students gain skills and knowledge to steward the arts within and beyond the St. Anne’s-Belfield community.
