Lectura 1 Isaías 35:1-6,10 Reading 1 Isaiah 35:1-6a,10 Today’s First Reading is one of hopeful visions. In the day of the Lord, all sorrow and mourning will cease. Isaiah expresses certain trust that the God of Israel is a saving God who will, at an unknown future time, bring unimagined new life to his people. The land itself will be renewed with lavish growth, revealing to all the life-giving power of the Lord. Divine deliverance will bring freedom from oppression and captivity at the hands of foreign nations. But God’s ultimate saving action will also triumph over the enemies of human wholeness and health. Isaiah proclaims the biblical meaning of “salvation "which encompasses notions of healing, wholeness, and all things set aright, expressed in the defeat of all human affliction, both internal and external.
La primera lectura de hoy es una de las visiones esperanzadoras. En el día del Señor, todo el dolor y el luto cesará. Reading 2 James 5:7-10 Lectura 2 This letter of James bears a strong Jewish character, focusing primarily upon ethical conduct expected in the concrete lives of faithful individuals and communities. The early church generally believed that the Risen Christ would soon return in full glory, bringing the Kingdom of God to completion. A popular strain of Jewish thinking described God carrying out a last judgment through the Messiah at this time. James stresses that the culmination of God's work of salvation is imminent, thus believers must be both patient and prepared for its coming. Gospel Matthew 11:2-11 In today’s Gospel reading , John sends word to Jesus from prison, asking if Jesus is the Messiah for whom he has been waiting. Jesus responds by pointing to the miracles that he has worked. In his next breath Jesus praises John for his role in preparing the way for Jesus. Then Jesus says that all of those who work for the Kingdom of God will be as great as John and even greater.
This passage is a reminder that the beginning of salvation is already mysteriously present to us, but also yet to be fulfilled. Salvation is already in our midst as manifest in the miraculous deeds of Jesus and in the Church. But salvation is also to be fulfilled in the coming reign of God.
Santiago 5:7-10

Third Sunday of Advent THE “O” ANTIPHONS Saturday December 17 of this week marks the beginning of the “O” Antiphons, the seven jewels of our liturgy, dating back to the 4th Century, one for each day until Christmas Eve. They are chanted or recited accompanying the Magnificat canticle of Evening Prayer and they appear currently, in the Gospel Acclamations of our liturgy. The antiphons beg God with mounting impatience to come and save His people. Their repeated use of the imperative “Come” embodies the longing of all for the Divine Messiah. The importance of the O Antiphons is twofold: Each one highlights a title for the Messiah and also, each one refers to the prophecy of Isaiah of the coming of the Messiah.
The third candle is lit …… The 3rd Candle (the pink one) is called The Shepherd Candle or The Candle of Joy. The angels sang a message of JOY! “… and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manager, because there was no room for them in the inn. And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.’
They are as follows: December 17-O Wisdom of our God Most High, guiding creation with power and love: come to teach us the path of knowledge! December 18 - O Leader of the House of Israel, giver of the Law to Moses on Sinai: come to rescue us with your mighty power! December 19 - O Root of Jesse’s stem, sign of God’s love for all his people: come to save us without delay! December 20 - O Key of David, opening the gates of God’s eternal Kingdom: come and free the prisoners of darkness! December 21 - O Radiant Dawn, splendor of eternal light, sun of justice; come and shine on those who dwell in darkness and in the shadow of death. December 22 - O King of all nations and keystone of the Church: come and save man, whom you formed from the dust! December 23 -O Emmanuel, our King and Giver of Law: come to save us, Lord our God! ===================================

The mission of Aid for Friends (AFF) is to alleviate the hunger and loneliness of isolated homebound individuals. The volunteers visit with client friends throughout the five-county Greater Philadelphia region, providing home-cooked meals and life-enhancing friendship. All services are provided free of charge. Meals are prepared by volunteers, stored in freezers in churches throughout the region as well as at their headquarters and then picked up and distributed by the visitor volunteers in weekly visits to their client friends. Most of the persons visited are elderly individuals who could not otherwise remain in their homes without the support of the meals provided by Aid to Friends.
