Reading 1 Wisdom 11:22-12:2 This text from Wisdom is a reflection on the wonder of all of God’s creation and His mercy. God made everything and everything He made is good. Therefore, in God’s eyes, existence equals goodness. We do not earn worthiness; it is bestowed on us as an essential aspect of our existence. God, motivated by love, never ceases coaxing us to repentance by inviting us “little by little”, to face the sins that dull our senses and keep us from experiencing the fullness of God’s love. We are invited to turn from sin in order to taste the sweetness of God's mercy.

Reading 2 2Thessalonians 1:11-2:2 Lectura 2 2Tesalonicenses 1:11-2:2 This short reading is made up of two long sentences. The first is both the assurance of his prayers and a prayer in itself. The second is a no-nonsense instruction about not being misled by false teaching. A letter purporting to be from Paul, has been circulated that claims the “end of times” are already upon them. This news has shaken them “out of their minds” and caused great unrest. Paul’s goal is to protect them from this lie and to assure them that the end is not yet upon them. Paul is urging them not to be easily thrown off by rumors and lies. “The day of the Lord” is no small matter to get wrong; correcting this misinformation is essential. Gospel
Luke 19:1-10
This is the familiar story of Zacchaeus, a wealthy, chief tax collector, who being “short in stature”, climbs a tree because he wanted to see “who Jesus was.” From the vantage point of the tree, Zacchaeus had time, as well as sight lines, to look on Jesus and size him up. By the time Jesus invites himself to the short man’s home, Zacchaeus has made his decision about this teacher. He wastes no time responding to Jesus’ request to give him a place to rest. The crowd grumbles because Jesus is going to dine with a sinner. Then Zacchaeus offers restitution for all his thieving. What brought him to the point where he could so easily give away half his fortune? “Salvation” came to his house that day, but its journey likely started long before with tugs at his heart and pangs in his conscience. Jesus recognizes the faith of this tax collector exhibited in his search for salvation and calls him down from the tree. In the hospitality he extends to Jesus and in his conversion of heart, Zacchaeus is raised up by Jesus as a model of salvation.

FAMILY-FRIENDLY, WORKPLACES 48% of working parents in Pennsylvania are ineligible to take unpaid, job protected leave under the Family & Medical Leave Act. Katie NcGinty - promises to fight for women and families by working to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act to achieve equal pay for equal work. She also promises to fight for paid family leave because “no one should have to choose between taking care of a family member or child and keeping their job.” Pat Toomey—believes that “the family is the basic building block for society.” He is a cosponsor of the Working Families Flexibility Act of 2015, which allows working parents to obtain up to 4 additional weeks of paid leave. It also allows “employees the choice of paid time off in lieu of cash wages for overtime hours worked.” HOUSING Pennsylvania has a shortage of 280,801 housing units that are affordable and available for extremely low-income renters. Katie MvGinty—advocated for affordable housing as Chief of Staff for the Governor of Pennsylvania. She wants to ensure no one is denied access to housing due to discrimination. Pat Toomey—opposed the Fiscal Year 2014 Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development funding bill that would raise the funding for housing and other programs, noting its defeat was “a small victory for spending discipline.”
NOVEMBER the Month of All Saints & All Souls November 1 is the Solemnity of All Saints. It is a holyday of obligation, and it is the day the Church honors all of God’s saints, even those who have not been canonized by the Church. November 2 is All Souls Day. A day we pray for the souls in Purgatory. The Feasts of All Saints and All Souls, expresses the Christian belief of the “Communion of Saints.” The Communion of Saints is the union of all the faithful on earth (the Church militant), the saints in heaven (the Church triumphant) and the poor souls in Purgatory (the Church suffering), with Christ as the Head. The term saint, first used for a baptized follower of Christ, is derived from the Latin word sancti, which means “holy ones.” Exactly how many saints are there? There are over 10,000 named saints but no definitive "head count". By the year 100 A.D., Christians were honoring other Christians who had died, and asking for their intercession. The first saints were martyrs, people who had given up their lives for the Faith in the persecution of Christians. Since saints led holy lives and are close to God in heaven, we feel that their prayers are particularly effective. Often we ask saints to pray for us if we feel they have a particular interest in our problem. This month is a wonderful time to reflect on the lives of the Saints and other holy people and draw on their strengths to become holier people and better disciples of Jesus Christ. Saints are people like us who led ordinary lives or, in some cases, extraordinary lives. They were sinners who let the love and teachings of Jesus Christ guide their words and actions.
